===== Temporary Sickbay/Holodeck 1 - USS Chimera ===== Scott had materialised in the corridor near Holodeck 1 feeling dizzy and slightly sick. He screwed his eyes shut tight and shook his head in an effort to think clearly but there wasnt time to waste and he hurried to carry out the engineers instructions. The wall panel was easy to find as it was hanging half open which was a bonus to start with and after a tense moment or two he located the system he sought. A nerve stretching series of seconds followed before the computer reported a success. He beat a fist into the air, grinning to himself, but remembered there was more to do, grabbed his medkit and ran toward the holodeck. He had hardly made it inside the door when he almost ran into a body lying on the floor. "Geez!" he exclaimed managing to avoid stepping on the sprawled arm and coming to a fast stop.He glanced quickly around the temporary s/bay but saw no sign of Dr Quiocho amidst the chaos. Kneeling down at once beside the body, Scott pulled out a tricorder from his case and switched it on.With a sigh of relief he saw the body was alive. The Bajoran lying on the ground was almost unrecognizable.The right upper part of the body was seriously burned. Also the right part of the face suffered some damage. Scott could only recognize that the man was from the science department. After a short scan he stood up and called Maikais name loudly. On the far side of the room he saw her figure turn and begin to hurry towards him. He looked around at the mess, crossed quickly to an overturned bed and with an effort righted it. "Help me get him up on this." he said as Maikai approached and returned to the injured man knowing that the movement would cause even more pain but that treating him on the floor was worse. Together they positioned themselves at his head and feet. "When I tell you, we lift him together ok?...ready? one..two..three..lift!" Terek's senses were still dimmed by the pain, but he felt that someone raised him and put him on something soft. He opened his eyes a little to see a man and a woman over him. He forced a very tired smile, followed immediately by face in pain, as he moved with the burned part of his face. "I... I'm sorry to bother you, good people, but would it be selfish to want something to ease that pain?" Asked in quiet slow voice. "Thats coming right now" Scott said, concentrating on the hypospray already loaded with Rexalin he had taken from the medkit. He checked the dose then pressed the spray close against the mans neck. "Give that ten seconds and you'll feel easier. Whats your name ensign?" Bajoran closed his eyes for a moment and he felt the pain flowing away slowly until it was only some dim sense somewhere in the back of his mind. He turned his head to the side where the man that gave him the painkiller stood. "Thank you sir. Name's Terek Weranis..." In that moment he saw the blue light of the transporter that materialised a woman inside the holodeck right behind the Scott. "What is the state of the ship? how many dead are here?Transporters are still online?" he asked when he saw that transporter beam... Scott turned his head. "Welcome to sickbay ladies." he said with a small smile, relieved that both Rangi Mercedes and the two patients had arrived safely. "Good to see you" Rangi responded returning the smile. "Maikai..Mercedes..please settle our patients.Maikai pointed to a clear area and together she and mercedes helped the two remaining patienst from sickbay towards it. "Whats going on?" she asked looking over her shoulder and taking in the damaged room. "I found him on the floor."Scott said "Second and third degree burns. I've given him 2cc's Rexalin." "Ensign Terek!" Rangi exclaimed, stepping forward. "Whats happened to you? Is Oriana with you? Whats the state of Astrometrics?" For a moment, Terek didn't recognize that Doctor Summers was talking to him, but then he replied: "Good to see you are all right doctor." he said with a feeble smile, but he forgot that it causes a pain, so he closed his eyes for a moment to overcome it. "I don't know what happend in the Astrometrics. We were placing temporal inhibitors with Alex and we were just on our way to the duty when turbolift malfunctioned. We've managed to get out after a fall. We climed a few decks and wanted to get to the Astrometrics, but then the EPS on the starboard ruptured taking a part of the hull with it and then the fire spread. Alex helped me here and last thing I remember was that I asked her to go to the Astrometrics to see if she can help. Then I remember only that kind person giving me painkillers." he nodded towards the Scott. "Have you any reports of how great the damage is? Have you connection to the Bridge?" Rangi shook her head. "No...we tried to contact the Bridge but the comm is out. I dont know whats happened to the rest of the ship. Main sickbay has been destroyed. We managed to come here using...site to site transport.I'd hoped that this place would be in better shape. " she said looking around for a second or two. She forced a smile. "So Ensign Terek...lets get you fixed up shall we?" She turned to the AMO." Thankyou Scott, I can manage this. Please help Maikai and Mercedes...it looks as though theres alot to do." "Too true" Scott replied. "Ensign" he nodded to Terek and walked away. "Ok.." Rangi said."Lets begin with your face shall we? Can you look that way? I just need to see ....." She leaned forward, scanner in one hand and examined the burns."Thats not so bad" she said reassuringly "It will take me a few minutes." She sounded convincing enough and began to search through the medkit for all she needed to proceed. "When did you last hear from Commander Guzman?" she asked. "I have full confidence in your abilities doctor." Said Terek with something that should be with some imagination considered as a smile. "I haven't heard from the commander since we've entered that bloody thing outside. I really hope, they are all right up there." "Me too." Rangi said with serious tone. She had hoped that he would have some news and tried to push back her growing worry over Shanes safety. "Right..well...I want you to relax." She smiled. "Easier said than done I know.If you feel any pain you must tell me and I'll stop.The worst sensation you should experience is slightly uncomfortable heat....but if its too bad you tell me ok?" She made adjustments to the Dermal Regenerator and began to work above Tereks eye. "I like using these" she informed him as new skin began to form. " This is the new model...much finer than the old one." Though she chatted to take his mind off the work in hand,her own mind was on the Bridge, wondering what the conditions were like there. "Well I hope it is as good as you claim it is. I'd like Alex to recognize me after all of it is over." He said when doctor was working."May I ask. Have you some news about how's the ship's status? Have you been able to access some systems?" He asked, thinking that hopefully Alex made it to the Astrometrics and that she's with the Oriana right now. He told himself that he have to get there as soon as he'll be able to get up. "She will" Rangi replied, pausing to move her position. " We managed to use the emergency override to operate the transporter system. Its not something I'd recommend!" she added darkly."I wish we could contact the rest of the ship...just to know whats going on. Ok...please...can you sit up? Let me look at your arm." "Of course, please wait..." said Terek and with some difficulty he managed to sit up, using his healthy arm... "Well, if you have been able to use the override, then we might be able to get comm back online. It's just that we don't know in how bad shape those systems are." "Could you do that?" Rangi asked grasping at a chance.She frowned at the sight of the arm. "I'm going to give you another painkiller...we need to get the tunic off first. "I can try, but I'm not an expert... Auch!" escaped from Terek's mouth as he tried to get of the burned jacket. After some time, with doctor's help and some pain, he managed to get it off and now he sat there half naked, his right half of the upper body burned. If anyone would see him now, he would thought that he's some kind of alien with half of his body black and half white. "If I can get some terminal functioning, then I may try to bypass the damaged circuitry... if there is some untouched remained to bypass through." "As far as I know, you have to work from this deck. Scott could only get as far as deck three because of fire in the Jefferies tubes.The lifts are out as you know. Can you do it from here?" She sounded doubtful as she turned her full attention to his shoulder. "Mmmm..." she said to herself and walked around to the other side of the bed so as to see the full damage to his body. She circled back and once again said "Its not too bad" and gave him the standard 'sickbay smile' "It would be invaluable to have the comm restored" she said beginning to use the regenerator again. "You know doctor, I've always wanted to know if they teach you those smiles at the academy, because all the doctors can do the same one and it has same reassuring effect." Smiled Terek as the doctor cut a perfect smile saying 'Everything is going to be fine'. "Well, we can try the Astrometrics. It's on this deck and if it won't be too damaged, it'll be the best place to try to get the comm system online. "Lets see how you feel when this is done" she said as she continued work on the blistered and peeling skin."This will need further treatment." she told him ..."and some of it will possibly leave a scar...though nothing dreadful, don't worry." "What disappointment doctor. I was hoping that I'll be able to shock all my friends with those ugly scars on my chest." answered Terek, apparently getting into a better mood. Perhaps also ecouraged by that ADTH in the air. "I'll just need one more thing. If we are supposed to get comm back online, the engineering tools will be probably needed. I assume, you don't have one in standard sickbay equipment?" "Ummm..no...sorry." RangI replied. "But there might be something in there." She pointed to a maintainance hatch just inside the entrance to the holodeck.Taking a step back, she switched off the regenerator and gave him a quick smile. "Almost done." she said "How are you feeling? Is it too much to take? Would you prefer me to stop for a while?" "I'll take a look after you'll finish." Said Terek and when Rangi asked how does he feel, he tried to stretch a little and surprisingly it felt quite good. during the procedure he felt some of uncomfortabe heat, but nothing unbearable."Feeling good, doctor, it heats a little, but I can bare it, please continue." "Good" she responded, reactivating the tool. In less than five minutes, the initial treatment was completed. She applied a soothing gel, told him it would feel fairly good for an hour or so but then would need further attention. "That might give you time to get astrometrics..." she said. "I'd come with you but..." she broke off, looking around the devastated holodeck."Please let me know what you find or what you can do." she said returning her gaze to his. "And if you can contact Commander Guzman....please update him on all this." "Thank you doctor." replied Bajoran as Rangi finished her treatment. "I'll be here then in an hour, I promise." nodded at her, and stood up form a biobed, but his head now suddenly felt dizzy, so he grabbed side of the biobed to get a balance and wait to pass it off. When he saw Doctor's look, he quickly said. "Don't worry, it's nothing... I'll keep you informed about how I'm continuing with that comm." But when he was about to leave the holodeck, he remembered that he's still half naked, so he returned for his jacket but only to find out that it isn't usable anymore... as the whole right half was destroyed. He just sighed "That was my finest uniform...
