*** Sickbay * USS Gott *** Ra'nars suggestion of capturing an X'Chi had taken Rangi but the idea wasn't as unreasonable as it first sounded. Somehow the wounds inflicted by the X'Chi were not responding to conventional treatment and the some of those with such wounds were taking turns for the worse. Exactly how they would capture one was a question without obvious answer as far as Rangi could see. It was all very well to say they needed one but how to contain a three meter tall insect with mandibles capable of crushing a human to pulp and with serrated 'claws' that could slice through bone in an instant put a slightly different light on the request. There was little choice however, so, deciding to contact the general and explain the circumstances, Rangi reached to tap he combadge. It 'chirruped' as she did so. "Lieutenant Versey here." a slightly breathless voice identified itself. {Versey?} Rangi thought, remembering the tall dark haired engineer who had only just left the sickbay. "Yes Lieutenant, Is there something I can help you with?" she asked wondering what he wanted and hoping it want going to take long. "Ma'am you said you needed a live X'chi" It was an odd statement and Rangi, a little confused as to why the conversation was taking place replied: "Yes I did Lieutenant.... what about it?" She noticed Ra'nars frown at the holdup with contacting the General and gave him a small shrug to indicate she didn't understand and felt the same. "I believe I have one for you starboard side of main engineering." Lieutenant Versey informed her, sounding as surprised as she was. {He 'has' one?..how?....and he's alone with it?} "Why did you contact me and not oda first Mr. Versey?" Rangi replied hoping he would tell her that they were on their way to help him. "Well Ma'am I just overheard you ask for one not 5 minutes ago and here it is, fresh on my mind and not exactly sure WHAT to do at this moment." There was pause. Rangi and Ra'nar exchanged glances. "Stay right where you are lieutenant." she said "I'll get backup for you." She closed the communication and looked at Ra'nar. "Well..." she said "...we have out X'Chi!" Ra'nar was surprised to say the least, "Yes we do." For a moment that was all he could say then he suddenly turned around looking for anyone in sickbay who could hold a weapon. He recognised two people from ODA Delta, "You two on me." Ra'nar turned back to Rangi, pulled out a phaser and handed it to her, "You coming?" Rangi looked at the offered weapon and accepted it wordlessly. The two marines were already moving towards them. "Yes." Rangi said re-meeting Ra'nars eye "I'm coming..but I need to contact the General and we need..." she looked around quickly "..a field kit....Scott!..." she called, catching the AMOs eye. "...you're in charge here." Tapping her combadge, she said quickly to |bretams response.. +Taps Sir. Lt Versey has cornered an X'Chi . We need it alive to take +samples of possible toxins that it holds. There are a number of injured crew who are not responding to conventional methods of treatment and Ra'nar and I suspect that's the cause. He two ODA and i are on our way there now sir. Summers out. She knew it wasn't the best communication she'd ever made but time was of the essence. She ran to catch up. The four of them briskly moved though the deck to the lieutenant's position. It did not take long to get there, in fact it was lucky that the X'chi had not charged into sickbay, that would have created a hell of a mess. When they got there the lieutenant was standing next to the creature that was completely out cold, {How did he manage that?} thought Ra'nar. "Keep your weapons on it, if it move take out its limbs, do not kill it." Ra'nar turned to Rangi, "What now?" She looked at the insectiod and a shiver of horror ran down her spine. It was a large example of its kind and now, even when unconscious, it still seemed to hold a threat. She looked at Ra'nar "We need samples." she said simply and her gaze was drawn back to the creature that twitched now and then, its eyes giving the impression it looked at them all and knew what they planned. Rangi eyed the creature as it laid there and showed a notable level of creeps. She scanned it as she ordered Ra'nar to get samples. Ra'nar moved quickly and swiped a strange device near the x'chi mouth scrapping a tooth and pulling his hand back. The team had entered engineering and took action within seconds as Hawk stood in a state of awe. He was either shocked at the events or truly just having a "slow" moment because he didn't make the connection that Major Walsh was in the process of locating and beaming the x'chi to sickbay. Hawk snapped back to reality at that moment and said, "Oh Crap. Major Walsh is transporting this thing to sickbay for you to use!" At the moment Ra'nar pulled the device back the transporter grabbed the x'chi and it dematerialized from site. Hawk jumped on the nearest console and began to work like mad to transport it back here. He thought that it would be simple enough and it was, at first. He acquired the X'Chi signal using the Majors transport coordinates and fired up the transporter to send it back through the ship. The bug was laying in sickbay for a good 2 or 3 minutes and he hoped it didn't come to and start eating people. The transporter was in mid cycle when the strain to the ships energy system became apparent. The entire power grid and warp reaction ceased. Hawk thought it was rather odd that the transporter did ALL that so he looked up from the console to the surrounding crew with a very bad look on his face and simply stated.
