Ra'nar turned to Rangi with a disgusted look on his face, "why did they not
inform us of that before we went into combat, I could have saved lives
today!"
With that ra'nar smashed his fist into the screen of the consol cracking it
down
the left hand side and cutting his hand for the second knuckle. After his
moment
of rage he managed to think a little clearly, "You know, in my experience
the
only reason you would not inform a someone of this information is if they
were
not expected to
survive contact with the X'chi." ...........>>
***********USS GOTT an empty quarters on deck 4**************
"Oh my god this is awesome" was the only thought Hawk had, (and he said it
out
loud) as he showered in an empty quarters.
He spent about ten minutes taking a shower and knew that he should have only
spent two minutes but he couldn't help it. Anyways the luxury that was
hygiene
had to end sooner than later so he replicated a new uniform and made is way
out
the door.
As he made his way to engineering however he was intercepted by Lt Cmdr
Summers
** USS Gott * Engineering **
Ra'nar clenched his fist as he regained some sense of self control.
"Sorry about that. Restraint never was my strongest attribute," he said as a
little blood trickled down his fist onto the deck. "I guess we had better
start
working on those inoculations, don't want half the crew to drop dead."
Ra'nar
stopped for a moment and smiled, "Although that would get me up the chain of
command faster."
Rangi gave a glimmer of a smile at his attempt at humour but it died
immediately. "How could they keep it from us?" she asked referring to the
secret document. "I have never seen that before...even when I searched for
X'Chi in the database at the start of this mission. There was nothing
there...so why only here on this ship?" She dropped her gaze to his hand
thoughtfully. "You'd better get that seen to first and then yes..we need to
find the antidote. " she said raising her head to
look at him again. Her attention was caught by a tall figure striding into
the
room "Lt Versey!" The engineer did a sharp detour from his tracks at Rangis
call.
"Ma'am?" he said walking to them
" Do you know where theres a lab on this ship?" she asked
Ra'nar pulled a rolled up bandage from his trouser pocket. Slowly he started
to
bandage the hand, unrolling it as he went and as he watched Lieutenant
Versey
approach, "Your best bet would be up a deck or two. Nova class vessel's have
all the best equipment in their science departments." he said as Hawk drew
near.
Hawk replied "There are no labs in working order onboard " and glancing from
Rangi to Ra'nar and back added "I could help you fix something up...what do
you
want exactly?"
"We need to find a treatment for a virus" Rangi said and looked at Ranar.
Ra'nar motioned towards to damaged screen still showing the report. "We need
to
put together some antibodies with the virus." He frowned, " ....and whip up
enough of the stuff for the whole crew before they start dropping dead."
Seeing Hawks questioning expression Rangi said " We need to have access to
equipment that will enable us to make a serum ... lots of it...and quickly."
Hawk thought for a moment, "I could fix a lab of sorts. " he said,
"Ma'am... my parents were planetary geologists, and there were several times
that poisonous little cutes, scraps, and bites came up. So we got used to
making a needed anti toxin from basic supplies and facilities."
It was the best offer in a tight situation and in a moment Rangi nodded
agreement.
"The DNA sequence of the X'chi is still in the database.." she said ".... we
need to work from that then. Ranar...what do think?" Rangi asked, turning to
the Cardassian who followed a step behind. She paused to let him walk beside
them.
Ra'nar moved up, "That should be adequate. If what the report says is true
we
will only need a small part of the Virus, most will be antibodies."
With that Hawk spoke up, "We also still have the X'chi DNA in the
Transporter
database if we need it."
"Right." Rangi smiled to each of the men, thinking that at last something
was
going right and what they wanted could be achieved.
They began to lay out guidelines for what needed to be done and a time frame
to
do it in. Hawk made a beeline for the console he had used to transport the
bug
into the reaction chamber. With the DNA record still in the transporter
buffer
memory logs it would be easy to replicate and materialize the toxin
substance
from the X'Chi.
Ra'nar thought for a moment about who to take the antibodies from, it had to
be
somebody who was injured but not on there death bed. "Remember I spoke of
Jenn
Greene? I had to burn her wound close." Rangi nodded so
he continued, "Well I had a quick look at her charts while I was in sickbay
and
it seems that her body is having some effect at fighting the virus. I
believe
that her immune system may be having better luck at fighting it. I would
like to use her antibodies if you have no objections."
"None at all...she's 'just' what we need!" Rangi said and a real smile lit
her
face. "Please do that. LtVersey and I will set up what we can here."
"I can begin making the basic machinery, centrifuge, beakers, and
implements."
Hawk offered. and then cast a doubtful look at Rangi "You know how to work
with
that do you?" he asked.
"Yes I do!" Rangi replied, seeing a glimmer of amusement on Ranars face. "I
took a short course of the history of medicine...I'm sure I can remember
it." she added dryly.
Ra'nar smiled at the comment. "Well at this point I think it would be wise
to
leave you too alone," he said with a little hint of innuendo.
"Be sure to keep me updated, I will be back in around 15 minutes with the
antibodies." With that Ra'nar turned and headed back to sick bay.
Rangi watched him walk away a few steps before turning back to the
lieutenant.
Hawk began to pull up the match to the viral cells on the console and
paused.
They needed a more sterile place to do this. If an accident happens they
could
possible spread this to an airborne issue, that would be bad to worse.
"There are several crew quarters just a small distance away from here Ma'am.
We
could set up sterile fields in there for a small area and surround the
quarters
with stronger force fields and do this a little safer."
Rangi watched the preparations and helped move the setup to the nearest
quarters, setting the equipment and sterilizing the area took only a few
minutes.
Hawk was ready by the time the lab was set up and began to beam the material
into the sterile field within "lab 1" as it was being called already.
After a short period everything that was needed to make the antidote for the
X'Chi wounds was ready.
"As soon as Ra'nar returns we can set to work.Thankyou lieutenant. "Rangi
said . "Your help has been invaluable."
Hawk smiled and gave a nod of farewell, before moving on to other tasks
after
thanks from the CMO.
