*** USS Gott * Sickbay *** It was busy. There was now a queue of marines, maybe ten or more, waiting for the antidote and Rangi eyed them with concern. None had come to sickbay before Ra'nars shipwide call had sent them there. Most appeared to be resigned to the waiting, few looked worried, one or two looked bored. Scott was at the head of the line administering shots of antidote and examining each injury. It was a time consuming process and he was working alone. Lucy was with one of the aged crew, Mercedes, too, was engaged in treatment. Rangi's gaze fell on Maikai. {Good ... she's here,} she thought, recognising the newly arrived AMO and her companion, whom she remembered was Cpl Pressman. The pair seemed to be sharing some joke or other as Rangi, Jacobs and Andy walked towards them. Rangi looked around for vacant biobeds, intending to get her two companions settled and treated as soon as possible and wanting to tell the young doctor of the virus discovery and how the antidote needed to be given to all injured crew. "Please take a seat over..." she began to say, pointing to a biobed, but her attention was caught by a slight movement on the floor near to it. Rangi stopped, a frown formed on her face and she raised her eyes to the pair. "Doctor Quiocho ... what is that?" she asked with a certain degree of frost in her tone. Corporal Pressman followed the pointing finger, glanced at Maikai's face and then at the CMO. "Its Kaine, Ma'am. I mean, it's a dog Ma'am," he answered, not liking what he supposed was coming next. "I can see that Corporal. What's it doing in here?" Pressman, thinking to save his sweetheart trouble again answered for her, "He was injured on Chimera, Ma'am. We rescued him and brought him with us. Maik -- er ... Doctor Quiocho said she'd look at him in a while ..." he ended feebly, the words fading to nothing. Scott finished treatment of one marine and called the next forward glancing toward Rangi and her group, noting the frosty tone and slightly raised voice. He paused in the act of loading the hypospray, his eyes moving from Rangi to Maikai, to the dog and Pressman and back to Rangi. The marine he was treating took interest in the diversion as well. "I don't 'think' so." Rangi said coldly, meeting Pressmans apprehensive look. Shifting her eyes to Maikai, she said, "This is a sickbay, not a veterinary clinic. I don't need to tell you that we have seriously injured people here not to mention the added problem of a virus condition. This is 'no' place for an animal. Take it outside." Her tone brooked no argument and Pressman, seeing Maikai stiffen, gave her arm a quick squeeze. He picked up the unfortunate dog and with an encouraging smile at Maikai, which faded from his face when he looked at Rangi, hurried out with his burden much to the interest of some watching marines whose wait in line had taken an upturn. "Right!" Rangi said turning her attention to the AMO "Private Jacobs needs attention ... his hands and lower arms are burned. Deal with that first, and then assist Scott with the innoculations," she said, then turned to Andy. "Lt. Foster? Please come with me." *** End Log *** LtCmdr Rangi Summers CMO/2XO USS Chimera
