*** Side room /Sickbay * USS Gott *** Lucy Fleming loaded the final hypospray and laid it beside the others on a tray. She packed the empty phials away, tidied the area and picked up the tray ready to return with it to the main sickbay. A moment later the tray was set back on the bench and Lucy, sitting herself onto a high stool, placed her elbows on the worksurface and rested her chin in cupped hands, a picture of dejection. Her oval face, usually so full of happy expression, was clouded and pale. "Oh there you are" Rangi said, spotting the figure as she walked into the room, then slowed her step, sighed inwardly and walking forward asked quietly. "Are you alright?" Lucy straightened up at once, forced a smile that wouldnt convince anyone and replied. "Yes..I was just collecting these.." "Its alright." Rangi said coming to stand beside the nurse and laying a hand on her arm. "There's no rush and if you feel you want time to yourself then thats fine." "No" Lucy said and slid off the stool "I prefer to keep working...it takes my mind of it." The two women exchanged a glance. Lucy shook her head and sat back on the stool. "You're right " she said in defeated tone "It doesnt really help at all." Rangi put her arm across Lucys shoulder, patted it sympathetically and gave a small squeeze. She bent her head forward so as to see Lucys face. "Why not take a few hours then? By all means come back if you want to but theres nothing here that demands you stay." She knew the source of Lucys unhappiness lay with John Adams, one of the marines killed in the recent battle, a man of whom Lucy had been extremely fond. "Perhaps I will then." Lucy said then asked " ...but you were looking for me?" "Ah..yes I was actually." Rangi said and offered a padd. "This is for you." Lucy took the padd, read the heading and looked up at Rangi with mild surprise. "For me?" she questioned, returning her gaze to the document. "Yes. " Rangi replied. "But its a Duty Log...I'm sorry but I dont see what it has to do with me....who's Jason Stephens?" Rangi looked down at the padd. "He's the officer who stayed aboard Chimera." Lucy frowned. It was common knowledge that a crew member had been aboard the ill fated ship and Lucy looked up at Rangi as she explained "Thats his final duty log. I was surprised it came to me but he sent it because of the second part.If you look you'll see a letter for Nurse Lucy Fleming." Lucy activated the padd and scrolled down as Rangi continued. "I suppose he thought that sending to the 2XO was the best way of getting the letter to you seeing as I'm CMO too." "I still dont see why he's written to me." Lucy said glancing up. "I never met the man." Rangi shrugged. "Read it and find out." Lucy did as she was bid and Rangi, watching her, saw the concentration deepen on Lucys expression. "I dont believe it!" Lucy exclaimed. She glanced up at Rangi then back quickly to the padd. "Look at this." she said. Rangi took a side step and leaned over Lucys shoulder to see what the nurse looked at. "Thats me!" Lucy said her tone one of disbelief and Rangi too looked amazed at the holograph."Its me...and him...and that is our baby." Lucy laid the padd down and stared at it as though it might suddenly sprout teeth and bite her. "I just..I just cant get my head around it!" she said. "I mean....oh Rangi..YOU read it." Rangi glanced at Lucy uncertainly. " It's a personal letter?" "Just read it." Lucy said and stood up from the stool with an air of impatience. Rangi moved forward, reached for the padd and read the first words aloud "My darling Lucy...." She glancing quickly at the nurse then continued on in silence. The letter was one written from a loving husband to his wife. It was full of affection and explained that Jason Stephens had gambled on returning to his own timeline when the Chimera went to her destruction. If that was so, the letter said, then he knew he would be reunited with his darling wife and their adored baby girl Millie. Rangi turned her head to look at Lucy who now paced back and forth across the small room. Even if he couldnt return, the letter continued, he wanted Lucy in 'this' time line to survive and go on to live a happy life. To this end he would willingly forsake his own and stay on Chimera final journey. He loved her more than words could tell and wanted her to know this in a last goodbye. Rangi laid the padd onto the worktop and the smiling faces of Jason Lucy and baby Millie disappeared as she switched the padd off. "I dont know what to say." she stated in quiet honesty "I dont understand these temporal things really...." and turning to face Lucy saw the nurses stricken face. "He did it for me." Lucy replied simply, "...for me" *** End Log *** LtCmdr Rangi Summers 2XO / CMO USS Chimera & Nurse Lucy Fleming (npc) Rangi
