-= SB 485 =-
He heard an announcement on his combadge, that he was to report to the
USS Thorn for departure in 24 hours. This was very typical of the Starflet
bureaucracy. First reporting to Bragg he was told to come to SB 485, to his
opinion, in the middle of no-where, just to return via another ship, to
Bragg for a reason only the prophets would know. At least the system knew he
was part of the Chimera crew, he wondered if he had even been taken out of
the roster when he left, almost a year ago.
"Ensign?" Someone called.
A few things had changed, since the last time, he was now wearing a
starfleet uniform, rather than a marine green. He was also now a fully
certified doctor, having completed the remainder of his residency and a few
months of catching up in the classrooms. He looked again at the small sized
PADD he was carrying, reviewing his orders. It seemed odd to have medical
written all over it, when he had served as marine and SSF operator all his
13 years of service, quite a change.
"Ensign, please move on." The voice repeated.
It was also strange to be back to the lowest rank in the commissionned
officers, ensign, when he had left Starfleet, his record was closed, so when
he rejoined, he was to start it all over. From Major to Ensign... He should
have thought better when he quit, for personal and psychological reasons.
But then again, he was in a new trade, that fact smoothed the harshness of
the rank drop.
"ENSIGN!" The voice shouted, and poked him in the shoulder.
"What!" Okrin turned to the man. "What IS your MAJOR malfunction
lieutenant!" He barked in the officer's face, once again in Drill sergeant's
mode, forgetting his place.
The lieutenant stepped back, not willingly, at the outburst, but
recovered quickly. "As you where, ensign!" He said, in a controlled voice,
still obviously commanding.
Okrin realized what had just happened and eased off, KNowing he was
probably going to be in shit, but not carring more than he needed.
"Sorry... Sir, I'm still getting used to the rank... adjustment." He said
to his own defence. Now the Lt could see the man, although wearing an ensign
pip, was older and seemed battlehardened with a good number of missions
under his belt.
"Fine, no problem, just get out of the way would you? You're blocking the
exit." The security officer said, as Okrin turned to his left and saw the
line of people, waiting for him to vacated the exit point. There seemed to
be three or four persons missing between him and the first other passenger
waiting to disembark. A second officer lowered his sidearm, seeing the
situation ease quickly.
Okrin almost grunted at the passengers, but just grabbed his carry-on bag
and left the area, looking for any old Chimera crew he could find. He was to
report to someone. He thought Guzman, as XO would do fine, but Rangi, his
dept head was his main target, they had alot to catch up with his most
recent happenings...
