***/\*** SB 485 ***/\*** Bev made her way around the base to her lab as she had every morning for the last eighteen months. How was se going to keep this crap up for another six months. She had signed up for a base assignment thinking or even hoping that it would be a border settlement. As such it would be a likely hotbed of new discoveries and scientific research. NO SUCH LUCK, she was here at the end of the universe she thought. Her days consisted of getting up for her shift, moving to the lab and going over empty scans of the surrounding areas for anything new. The base arboretum was the only meaningful assignment she held here. It required a certain type of balance to grow naturally and she was assigned to tend to it's care, which proved how crappy the base was not to have a botanist to tend to it. Drinking while hassling the few poor souls that ventured to this corner of the quadrant. She had grown from a shy young lady to an impetuous, smart alec with a need for entertainment. There had been one or two relationships that had some promise for something more but ended in typical fashion, with RnR ending for him and her being left there. She had put in countless requests for transfer but the base science chief liked having her around, because he didn't want to deal with the plants. Much to her surprise she entered lab 3 this morning and she instantly say LT Fullerton, her CSCiO. She was full of excitement walking to her station were he stood. Excitement because she may be in trouble, or promoted, or anything that was different. A change of pace for any reason was awesome, but as she approached Larry his expression was not good. "Good morning sir, what's the occasion?" She bluntly asked "Well Ms. Hinderman, you can request no more for a transfer. You are to leave for Starbase Bragg with the Chimera crew." He replied She couldn't hold the smile back at all, she had several questions and immediately thought about Hawk. "You said WITH the Chimera crew, Sir. And will I be on Bragg or elsewhere from there." She wasn't allowing him a chance to even explain. He paused her flurry of questions with an upraised hand, and added, "You will be traveling to SB Bragg, AS Chimera crew, and boarding there new ship as a member of her science department. They lost a third of there crew on there last mission and there ship, and getting a newer ship they need to fill those spots fast." She new most of this information since she had been keeping company with Hawk for the last few days, but the departure time was unknown. She kept grinning and didn't notice that he had a velvet covered box in his hand. "You had better get moving Ms. Hinderman. The USS Thorn will be here within half an hour, and you better have all your belongings with you." As he finished he handed her the box and said goodbye Jr. Lt.
