===== Gate 16, Perimeter 1, Docking area, SB Bragg =====
The trip from SB 485 to SB Bragg took the USS Thorn only some 22 hours. Its true that the Thorn was heading for the Omega system with warp 9, but still ... Shane expected a bit longer way. The boarding of the Chimera crew on the Thorn went more or less good. What difficulties (if any) Walsh have had was not known to Shane cause the Major appearantly forgot to write a report about that. Shane knew a bit more about the task he;s given to Rangi ... she recovered three Chimera officers from the SB 485's brig cells. Their 'crimes' were not exceeding common brawls and things ... but Shane could not loose the thought that his crew acted like loose wild apes while on R&R.
Shane didnt want to deal with persona matters while on board the Thorn. Somehow he felt not right about it. If someone should be punished or promoted, it should happen on board their own ship ... the Chimera.
Shane's thoughts drifted over to the Chimera-A ... his ship. It was strange to think about the Chimera as his ship, but slowly he was getting used to that. The Chimera-A was a shiney new Katana-B class ship. It was brought over to SB Bragg fresh from the Utopia-Planitia shipyards and it was waiting for her first maiden cruise. The Katana-B class was somehwat larger that the Interpid class, having 21 decks and 392 meters in lenght. The standart crew for an Katana-B class ship was 300 NCOs and officers.
Even if the type/primary purpouse for the Katana-B class was classified, to those knowing their specifications it was quite plain that it was designed for long runs and quick offensive actions. It was not a battleship ... but a cruiser / heavy explorer. "Seen it, been there ... got the T-shirt" was its motto.
But of course ... Tactical didnt went short with this class. Its 2 class XII and 8 class XI phaser arrays, 2 front and 1 aft torpedo tubes with a storage of 150 Mark-II quantum torpedoes and 10 demolition Tri-cobalt torpedoes must cause pride to any tactical staff. Shields Sustainable Load: 4,200 MW and Shields Auxilliary Load: Up to 90% of primary was not the best in the starfleet, but still gave the ship enough protection even for longer battles.
Engineering had no reason to be dissapinted eighter. Matter/Anti-Matter Propulsion, Two Nacelles, Standard Cruise: Warp 9.2, Emergency Cruise: Warp 9.975 (for 8 hours) , Sustainable Field Output: 4500 cochranes, One experimental: Quantum Phase Inversion "Slipstream" Drive with the maximum Slipstream Velocity: Warp 9.999992, Sublight Drive: Twin Tandem Impulse with the standard Impulse Cruise: 0.25 c and emergency Impulse Cruise: 0.75 c (for 5 minutes) were parameters quite exceeding the Interpid class.
Computers were the mind of all ships since centuries and the Chimera's was up to date as well with the Main Core beeing a Enhanced LCARS-II computer core with biometric circuitry to improve analysis of battle tactics and maneuvers. Computer Core Type: Biometric, maximum Storage: 2.1 million kiloquads, Data Transfer Rate: 5,110 kiloquads / second.
The Chimera was a SSF ship and as such the need for quiality short and long range sensors was great. The ship was stuffed with - Navigational Sensors: Enhanced: 1 primary, 2 secondary, Lateral Sensors: Standard: 8 arrays of 6 pallets. The storage of shuttles was a fair one as well with : 3 AR-02 'Warhammer' Assault Runabouts , 12 Type 9 Shuttle and a Captain's Yacht. A Storm class type III federation cloaking device was standart equipment for this kind of a starship.
Of course, the day did not hold duty time only. There was time for relaxation and having fun as well and the Chimera-A was ready for such requirements as well. Three Main honodecks, eight personal ones, an Arboretum and a large mess hall were for the crew's use. The crew rooms were generous as well ... 90 square meters per officer and 120 square meters per senior officer were by far more then the Interpid class could offer before.
The deck's layount was in Shane's PADD drawn like:
Deck : Primary Features / Secondary Features
1: Main Bridge / Captain's Ready Room Officers Mess ,Conference Lounge
2: Bridge Officer's Quarters, Senior Officer Quarters / Crew Support, Cargo Bay, Auxiliary Sickbay

Shane was a bit concerned about the number of crew he had at his disposal and the number of crew needed to fly a Katana-B class. Old Chimera's crew had always been roughly around 160 NCOs and officers and after the X!Chi mission there were exactly 112 crewman left. Since the standart crew for a Katana-B class was 300 crewman ... Shane was REALLY short of crew and if he wont get some new crew very soon, the Chimera-A will leave SB Bragg with hardly more then a skeleton crew.
Another thing was that Shane needed to fill a few senior positions as well. There was the position of the Second officer, Chief Medical Officer and ODA Assistant commader vacant. The Chief Engineering position was manned on an acting status only as well. Those were Shane's worries that he needed to deal with before the Chimera-A will beave its dry dock on Bragg.
===== Some laters =====
Shane stood in the large hallway and looked through a nearby window at a certain ship. From this spot he could see only the lower parts of the ship, but it still looked beautifull. The color was a standart light-greay one and it was illuminated by various lights of the Bragg's dock perimeter. Shane could not see them, but he knew what the letters on the saucer section of the ship were saying.
NCC-69899-A USS Chimera
There she was ... the new ship for his crew. Tall and beautifull ... a ship EVERY Commanding officer could be proud of.
Shane watched the ODA marines playing baby-sitting as they directed the hundred-strong Chimera crew through the connecting tunnel. While on the Thorn, Shane instructed all his senior officers about boarding the Chimera-A as soon as possible and start with the preparations to leave the base. Now he stood there alone (Asking Rangi to take charge of the boarding process) and watched the red/yellow/teal/green crowd boarding their new home.
{Finally} he thought.
===== End of log =====
<<OOC The R&R is definitelly over. Get yourself on board the Chimera and get used to her. She will be our new home for a long time I hope >>
