Jack had come straight from the training on the holodeck, obviously any
muck stains which he had on him vanished from his uniform once he left
the holodeck, but he was still looking slightly rough round the edges
and didn't have the chance to change before the mission brief. He sat
listening to the information at hand and became slightly amused at the
information which was being dispensed, Jem'hadar?
Hilarious.
Jack had gone into battle many times over the years, and the Jem'hadar
in battle were certainly a thing of beauty to watch, they were something
to aspire to. Unflinching, unforgiving and unwavering in their resolve.
They achieve their mission objectives at all costs, regardless of
collateral damage.
How on earth can you reprogram some of the most efficient killing
machines the Federation had ever encountered. Obviously nobody knew too
much of what had happened to them after the Dominion War, Jack had
always assumed that they had all been executed or rounded up and left to
die on some hell hole.
Now the shit had hit the fan and guess who they were sending in with
diapers.
Jack half listened, he was recording the mission brief itself for
further study and obviously all information displayed here would be made
available to him and his men. His attention drifted to the newly
promoted Ra'nar, his former Medical Specialist. He was sad to see him
go, but he'd received orders of a new recruit posted to the team.
He smirked inwardly as Shane scolded the Warrant Officer for using
inappropriate language in the briefing. Ra'nar was certainly going to
have to curb that, not that Jack was one to talk of proper officer
etiquette. Soon Jacks turn came around.
"Major Walsh, what are your suggestions for preparations the ODA should
do before we will arrive at Sidos?"
"Frankly Commander, what do we know here? The Jem'hadar have gone mad?
Nothing new there. They're not new enemies to us, we know how they
think, how they fight. We've engaged them before and we came out ontop.
I'll be putting my men through the same training we always do. I'm
afraid with the lack of information about who and what is down there
we'll play it by ear and assume that the Jem'hadar have gone rogue."
Walsh eased back into his seat.
Once the brief was over he was the first to stand and make his way out
of the briefing room, he'd had enough of this shit, there was clearly a
lax attitude in there in regards to what they were getting into. Then
again there's always a first time.
Marching into ODA Headquarters he saw that Cortez already had the troops
rallied round for his arrival after the Mission Brief. Efficient, but
nobody likes a smart arse.
"Attention on DECK!" Lieutenant Cortez barked before snapping himself to
attention.
Jack didn't order them to ease.
"Ok, I've come from Mission Brief as you know, and its what we're
trained for people. Seems the Federation has been trying to reintegrate
the Jem'hadar into productive society. Its all gone tits up as you can
imagine and they've lost communication with them. Special Forces is
being as tight lipped as the best of them so we're probably going to
have to play this by ear."
...
"Heres what we do know though. They've been surgically altered to blend
in. What does that mean? They could look Human, Bajoran, Romulan? They
could look like Plakenzkis freakin grandmother! I don't care. We've
faced these bastards down before and we're still standing. They still
bleed the same. "
...
He brought up the Sat Images that Birt had made available. "As you can
see it looks like a bit of a war zone down there. So Full gear on this
one. I don't want any chances. We'll need all the equipment we can carry
as we don't know how long we'll be down there or what we're *really*
going to encounter. Starfleet already sent in the Marines and they came
crawling back with their tails between their legs so now they're sending
in us, but I don't need to tell you all that we're getting into some
serious shit if the Marines were caught off guard."
....
"Cortez, get back on the drawing board, there's a full technical
schematic of the facility on Sidos in the computer banks now. I want a
holo training simulation mocked up within three hours. Standard
Jem'hadar enemies. I want everyone to be refamiliarised with the
Jemhadars tactics."
...
"Lynch, You know the score. I want all our gear unpacked and
distributed. Checked, rechecked. I know what you're like. If you've got
any toys up your sleeve that can help us on this one I want to hear
about it. I didn't get you that lab so you can cook breakfast in there.
Yeah, don't think I'm not aware of that. Cortez, if you need Lynch use
him. I want training up and running in four hours. Battlefield
Projections in 8 hours and some effective strategies in 10." Jack
ordered calmly but with authority.
He made his way up towards his office shouting "Dismissed!" Only once he
was at the top of the steps.
