====== Somewhere on the ship, USS Chimera ===== It was soon time for Shane's sleep time and he was just returning from his little tour around the ship. It was a long day, leaving Bragg and all the exciment of beeing in Command on his first ship on her first mission was demanding its toll. Shane yawned. The senior staff meeting went as expected even when there was very little what he could tell his officers about their new mission. Trouble was that even SSF Command was still in dark and the Chimera's crew was left on their own to find a way how to hadnle the situation. On thing that pleased Shane was the fact that even if Walsh wasnt a type of an officer Shane would choosed as Second officer ... he was at least a good ODA Commander and from all he's heard, the ODA was taking the preparations for the upcoming mission quite seriously. One of the many advantages of the Katana-B class ship was the fact that its saucer section was modular ... that means that some sections of the saucer could be changed into other depending on the expected need for the certain ship or mission. The Chimera had but one special saucer module yet ... the ODA barracs and training ground. The quarters there were far igger and more confortable then on the old Interpid class and the training ground offered the ODA crew excellent means for combat and tactical traning. Another nice thing on the new Chimera was the fact that it was stuffed with not one ... but TWO mess halls. One ... the bigger one was the standart mess hall, about thrice the size of the small Interpid class mess halls and the other was designed to serve as an NCO mess hall and club. An NCO club was meant to be a gathering point for ann non-commisioned crew where they could have fun without beeing 'bothered' by any of the officers. An unspoken rule said that none officer was allowed to ented the club without an invitation of some NCO. After consultation with the CO the most senior NCO on the Chimera choosed the name of "Green Dragon". A funny name as Shane thought, but he was told that the name came from a book from old Earth's history. Anyway .. the Green Dragon should became a real 'lair' for NCOs wanting to have some fun. Thinking about alcohol stuff ... Shane remebered hearing some 'rumours' about an alcohol containmend among the ODA crew, but who brought it, for whom and how was all hidden in dark. As always ... everything was bound with paperwork. Even a mess hall ... There was now the problem on how to replace the old ship's chef V'len Sameron. The good old chef was injured during the last mission and when he would e able to assume his duties was uncertain. For the moment was the chef's post filled with some guy from science department on temporary basis ... but to be honest ... the guy was maybe a good scientist ... but sure not a cook! You think such a place like the arboretum requires virtually nothing to run ... but you are quite wrong. Sure ... there was an arboretum on board the Chimera and even 4 times as big as the little one on the old Chimera, but the several plants there were planted in back in the shipyard and resembled more a wild weed glade then an place for rest in the 'nature'. Cause the science staff was quite low staffed ... there was noone appointed to be in charge of the arboretum yet and Shane could only hope that soon will someone apply for that position. <<OOC ... if anyone wish to create an IC/NPC char for the position of Xenobiology Specialist ... send the Command team a mail and apply! >> On deck eight were even more recreational facilities. Shane was able to visit only the gymnasium till now. It was stuffed with devices for muscle and fitness training as well as enough place for joga or kalanetic training and a tiny little bar serving vitamine and milk shakes. An another nice feature of the new Chimera was the shuttlebay observation deck on deck 12. It was basicaly a large room with seats at seven large windows that were placed just under the shuttle bay (one deck above) and looked right outside the ship into the vast distances of the universe. The light was quite dimmed in the room and that added an genuie atmosphere to that place. Shane thought back on LtJg. Versey whom he had seen with some blue collared woman in the mess hall and thoght if the two of them will visit the observation deck soon or if there will be again some little mess between the crew. Shane had to smile as Athena approached him with the request of arranging a small helloween ball in the main mess hall. Shane was a bit reluctant about the idea having in mind that the ship will most probably reack Sidos as the same time as the ball was expected to end. But well ... social life on board a starship cant be stopped by any means and for the several first hours after arrving at the orbit of Sidos Shane expected only a an away team consisting mainly of ODA memnbers to be directly involved in the mission. {Costumes ball} Shane thought, {thats a crazy idea ... I wonder how many of the crew will take part on it ...}. Anyway ... Athena seemed to be quite eager about the ball and explained that social interaction is a very good thing to boost the crew's morale and for uiling interpersonal relationships between the old and the new crew ... so Shane agreed with her at last and promised to come. ===== End of log ===== Cmdr.
