===== Terek's quaters - USS Chimera-A ===== [Time is 0600 hours.] Said computer in well known emotionless voice. "I know, I know... just a few more minutes..." murmured person in the bed, covered with blankets. But the computer didn't react on this. After a moment it said again in louder voice. [Time is 0605 hours, initiating wake up protocol.] And with this, quiet music began to play. Some clasical melody form the ancient Bajor. It was chosen randomly from the set database and terek didn't want to think about what it is, except he would like to remain in bed for the rest of the day. But also he knew that if he won't get up, the next phase of this damn protocol will initiate and this wouldn't be nice. So he sat on the bed, rubbed his eyes and with yawn he said. "Computer I'm awake." Computer beeped in answer as it was programmed to this type of answer and deactivated the protocol, but music kept playing. The symphony was gaining on strength and more instruments were joining the main motives, repeating it with raising and faling tempo. In the moment Terek was leaving the bathroom, washed, dressed and looking again as normal Bajoran... at least in the frame of possibilities, the track was getting into magnifficent cresscendo and now Terek was humming with it as he remembered the track. So he sat into the sofa for a moment to listen rest of the song. As the music ended, he stood up and left his quaters, only arranged with some of the newly bought thing and also with what Alex bought him on the starbase. Those thing included one great thing. By some miracle she got her hands on a wooden statue of the dragon. It was looking a bit differently than that one he had before, but it still was very nice piece of art and now it had an honest place on the shelf next to the bed. He was on board for a few days now, but still getting used to it. He always had some troubles with oriantation on the new ships and those few days weren't still enough to lear all ways, so when he found himself in a blind corridor instead of one leading to turbolift, he swore slightly, turned on his heels and walked back to the nearest crossing. {I knew I had to take the right way...} thought as he arrived there and without any further troubles he reached the lift. "Deck 3, Astrometrics." He said plainly as he entered a turbolift cabine with few other crewmans. It looked that not only him had a bad time waking up today. All of those that were in the lift looked somehow like chewed by cow or kicked to death by butterflies. With a little smile looking on the puffy faces, he left the turbolift as it stopped one deck above, on deck 3. When he entered the lab, he was a little in shock again. He hadn't used to this one as well. Mainly it was because this one was really really much different from the one on the original Chimera. What would strike the visitor first was the size. The room was at least two times larger than the previous one. In the middle was one large, circular platform surrounded by concoles, with two stair accesses on it. It was a holoprojector display; at disposal for main tasks performed in here. On the walls were the single work stations, but nothing small. Those were regular stations with everything necessary, sensor access, deflector monitoring, particle scans, system analysis, etc. Few of them were also universal with a limited access to all functions needed. Another great thing was that Astrometrics was right next to the other science labs. Well, not to all. They were spread on the deck, but largest lab was attached to the astrometrics and accesable by couple of heavy blast doors from the corridor on both sides of the research lab. ===== Astrometrics ===== So when terek entered the astrometrics, it looked that most of the shift is already on their posts, so he just walked to replicator, ordered a hot raktajino, took his cup and walked to one of the consoles surrounding the main holodisplay. There he saw Lieutenant Oriana, already working on something. {She never sleeps or what?} He thought as the Vulcan woman looked as usually. Without any sign of tirdeness. "Good morning madam." He said as he walked next to her. "Good morning ensign." Responded Oriana with a short glance at Terek and than looked back on her console. Yesterday she familiarized the whole team with the new mission briefing and what their task will be. It seemed that some crazy experiment with Jem'hadar was going there. Well as they were now traveling at warp to the Sidos colony, he run a basic system diagnostics and as it showed no problem, he called up an long range sensors access. He tapped a few commands pointing them to the colony and asked for a depp multispectral scan. He knew that from this distance the results will be nothing glorious, but perhaps it'll reveal something unusual. As this was in fact what they were supposed to do. Rumors on the ship are spreading in warp 10 so even when his CSCiO was not too eloquent about a mission briefing, Alex stopped by his quaters last evening to a ... ehm... tea... and almost immediately as the door closed by her, she told him latest 'warp news' as she used to call those second_hand_informations. { "Hi... I've got some news. You were on the team briefing today right? But you know how 'talky' Oriana can be when it comes to relevant and irrelevent information about the mission." Terek had to smile to this "Sure, so what are those news?" asked with a sight for he knew how Alex is enjoying this... "Well, the walls are whispering that the mood in a briefing room was really interesting... no one seemed to be sure of the mission as for the SSF command released too little info, for the project is supposed to be top secret. We're heading to the Sidos planet, you know that. There is supposed to be some research colony of some sort. you know that as well, but what you don't know is that noone really know what happened there. oriana told us that they lost a comm connection with the colony, but she didn't say why. There are wild ideas around the ship that it is a beginnign of a new war with Jem'hadar, that they are assisted by a romulan fleet. I've even heard that there are some remnants of the Dominion involved, but I think that this is really too wild." Terek breathed in to respond, but Alex was in her elementh... "There are of course more probable theories. Most of the people thins that that crazy experiment simply got out of hands and that Jem'hadar took over the control of the facility. Some say that it caused some spatial anomaly, but I can't imagine what possibly could appear in that sector. And the rest of the crew says it was some sort of medical disaster as it is said that there were some quite dangerous compound on the base for experiments...." Terek stared into wall as he was trying to sort the flood in his mind buffer, but Alex was inpatient. "So?!...." "So what?" "So, what do you think?" "Alex, I've told you before..." Alex interupted him... "I know, I know.." she said annoyed "Your father told you... rumors can make a warrior out of the coward.... And you told me that many times before, but still I think it is good to know what people thinks. AND when you sort it out a bit, letf the most ridiculous parts, you can end with a few solid theories that doesn't sound that crazy." Terek smiled a bit. When Alex was really involved in something she could be very ... persuasive... "All right, you want to know what I think? I think that that first theory you said is most probable. Starfleet was just plaiyng on gods again and things got out of hand. Now the colony is full of dead officers and a bunch of angry killing machines." } As Terek replayed this conversation in his mind, he incidentally called the infrmation about the Sidos planet, and unvillingly he switched it to the main holoprojectors. So his thoughts were suddenly interrupted by the large 'ball' floating right in front of him. "Lieutenant what are you doing?" Asked oriana looking on the small imitation of planet from the other side of the consoles. Terek would swore that he heard a surprise and amusement in her voice when she saw that he's surprised as wel. He just said "Sorry madam..." and switched the holoprojection down displaying the main infos on the console in front of him. {So let's get to work...} He said and with this he sipped a bit from his Raktajino and called up all the information he could gather form the database about the Sidos planet. Early terraforming plans, geological surevys of the area of the colony, climate, everything. And he started eading it, to get ready for the mission as he liked it. {Get as many information as you can, when you can...} sounded in his mind one of his father's quotes he used to tell him when he was on the science station with parents obseerving their work. ===== End Log ===== Lt.JG.
