****** USS Chimera – A * Sickbay ******
Ra'nar stormed into sickbay clutching a Phaser rifle,
"Retrain the Jem'hadar! Teach them tricks!" Ra'nar kicked the Biobed in
front of
him before tossing the weapon across the room. He had gone straight to the
armory after the briefing, only to realize that he did not need the weapon
when
he got into sickbay... he was a doctor now.
Unbeknown to Ra'nar, Lucy had been working in the store room and had heard
him
crashing about.
+Taps+ "Rangi, I think you might want to get down to sick. Ra'nar was".
+Taps+
Another smash made her jump mid-sentence.
+Taps+ Lucy?...Ra'nar was what?
Rangi waited inpatiently for the answer wondering what was happening in
sickbay
to cause the thumps and crashing sounds now audible over the combadge.
+Taps+ Just get here pleeease
Lucys voice pleaded, so not waiting a moment longer, Rangi closed the link
and
hurried for the nearest lift.
After a few minutes Ra'nar had released all his frustration at the expense
of a
few 'minor' dents in the walls and on one of the biobeds. Ra'nar strolled
into
his office, calmly sat down and poured himself a glass of Romulan Ale, a
little
left over from the ceremony at the Starbase.
He looked a right state, blood was pouring for his hand due to an impact
with a
menacing looking wall and his uniform was all over the place, in fact after
his
second glass Ra'nar took off his jacket and threw it on the floor.
"He's in his office. " Lucy said quietly, eyeing the window through which
Ra'nar
could be seen lolling in a chair behind his desk. "What happened exactly?"
Rangi
asked the nurse, also watching the new CMO with a hint of suspicion.
"He just came thundering in here...was really in a bad mood, threw 'that'
across
the room.." she indicated the phaser rifle now propped against the wall
"...and
muttered something about Jem'Hadar. That trolley was in his way so he shoved
it
aside and disappeared in there." She looked at Rangi hopefully.
"Ra'nar?" Rangi, standing just inside the CMOs office, glanced down and
stepped
over the discarded jacket. She walked towards the desk. "Is there a
problem?"
Ra'nar looked up at the Commander,
"Had a little trouble taking the top of this," he said waving the half empty
bottle around, "but now it is all under control. You coming down here was
totally unnecessary, however, if you would like a glass then that can be
arranged.” Ra'nar could see the commander was not impressed but he really
did not care
given the current situation and said in a low voice, "A bit of damage to the
sickbay is going to be the last of our worries when we have a battalion of
Jem'hadar running around the ship.”
Without replying, she retrieved the jacket and returned to him.
"What do you think you're doing?" she said meeting his eye. "Put that back
on."
She held out the jacket and as he stood to take it continued. "You are CMO
here...a senior officer of this ship. What do you mean by storming into
sickbay
like this?...damaging equipment and throwing rifles around?...and no, I do
'not'
want a drink." She paused for a moment only watching him pull the jacket
straight. Blood dripped onto it from his injured hand.
" Ra'nar...I am having serious doubts as to my wisdom in recommending you
for
this position. Major Walsh might not have had a problem with drunken marines
on
duty, but I DO."
Ra'nar put the jacket back on and stood up,
"Firstly I am not drunk, Secondly nobody on this entire vessel has more
experience of being in combat with the Jem'hadar than me. I was eleven then
they
killed my mother and sixteen when I lost my father to them, I have fought
them
from the ages of eleven to eighteen. So I am Sorry if I seem a little
distressed
about the prospect of a reunion." Ra'nar walked over the replicator and put
the bottle down in exchange for a hot coffee with double caffeine. "You want
to put someone else in sickbay, well that is fine by me, just drop me off at
the nearest starbase. Because if they are anything like I remember, a court
marshall is a welcomed prospect." Ra'nar took a mouthful of the coffee, "But
I am great doctor with a lot of passion, which is what you will need in this
situation."
Rangi stood watching him and when he turned to face her, pointed to his
chair.
"Please, sit down." she said quietly. Pulling forward a chair for herself,
she took a place opposite him and waited for him to be seated. "Look. " she
said, "You might not think so, but I too have had experience of fighting a
Jem'hadar soldier and it's not something I want to do again either. I'm
sorry about your parents...really." she added and paused, choosing her
words.
"I dont want you replaced but Jem'Hadar or not, you cant behave like this in
front of your team. Surely you see that?"
When he didnt reply she went on. "I dont think there will be any Jem'hadar
running around in here, the ODA will take care of that....but Ra'nar...a
serious
question. Tell me now, are you up to this mission?"
Ra'nar drank another mouthful of coffee and paused before replying, "I will
be
fine." Ra'nar placed the cup then with a smile said, "You fought a Jem'hadar
soldier??"
"Yes." Rangi replied. "A couple of years ago.I was trapped in a damaged
building
and he found me there. I have never been so terrified in all my life as I
was in
those moments.I honestly thought I would die and only the greatest twist of
fate got me out of there."
Her gaze dropped to the table between them. " A marine..Rob Richards... he
had a
knife..." She became silent, reliving the moment in her mind and when she
looked
up at him again said.
"Lets accept the 'great doctor' bit,but with less of the passion....agreed?"
Ra’nar could tell this Marine was somewhat of a sore subjet, perhaps he was
a
friend, or perhaps he was a lover, whatever he was Rangi did not seem to
want to
talk about him. So Ra’nar smiled, “Yes, I will try my best."
Rangi returned the smile but wondered as she watched him drink his coffee.
It
was obvious that he too was pondering something and she would have bet
anything
that his thoughts were with the Jem'Hadar. His comments at the officers
meeting
and his behaviour in sickbay, plus his explanation now, caused her some
concern.
{I must talk to Shane about it} she decided.
The coffee cup was set back on the desk and Ra'nar met her steady gaze.
" I have things to do." she said briskly, getting to her feet." You'll send
me
your plans for a full scale medical emergency as Commander Guzman ordered?"
she
added, knowing that he would but ending the meeting on a definate note.
“Yes ma’am, will do.” Said Ra’nar in a relaxed Marine tone. He could see the
XO glance over her shoulder as she left the office and sickbay. Ra’nar
laughed quietly to himself before slamming his fist into the glass top of
his desk, further damaging his hand and cracking the top of the table. “now
for that report,” said Ra’nar picking up the padd with his bloodied had.
