"Yes. Absolutely," answered the younger woman as she faced her superior. Sh= e had an overwhelming urge to stand up from her chair and pace around the roo= m a bit. But she knew that even though she was on friendly terms with the woman sitting across from her, it still would have been rude to do so. "When would you be leaving then?" Kaitlin only hesitated for a moment to answer. "The new Chimera is set to depart out of Bragg within two weeks. The transport shuttle won't make it i= n time, but I should make it there within a day or two after that." Nodding slowly and keeping her gaze fixed on Kaitlin, the darker haired woman reached up slightly to brush a few stray hairs out of her face. Looking down to read Kaitlin's new job description, she spoke, "And are you aware that this position is on an operational detachment? Field medicine? The potential for shooting someone then rushing to their side to help them out?" "Yes, I'm aware" "Had you ever thought about just taking a ship-side job? Getting your commission back?" Kaitlin sighed. It had been just over a year since Kaitlin gave up her soli= d gold pip and the rank of Ensign to become an NCO. She had gotten a taste of what it was like to run a sickbay on the Rodger Young, and decided that she wanted to be more hands on. Out in the field. And that was the reason she was standing where she was at that moment. After giving up said commission, she joined a team at one of the Starfleet medical training facilities so that she could learn the latest techniques in medicine. So she could help out those in the field. "I really want to do this, Commander," Kaitlin finally said after a few moments pause. "Well, there is nothing that I can or would do to stop you. The Chimera is a fine ship, and it is a great opportunity. I just wish, for purely selfish reasons, that you were staying here. You are one of the best here. Just kno= w that there will always be a place for you here, should you wish to return, Specialist Kaitlin Michaels." Kaitlin smiled. It was rare that someone addressed her by her full name and so-called rank. "Thank you, Lt. Commander Amily Ashlexa," she said before she paused to smile. Holding out a hand, she spoke, "It's been a pleasure serving with you." =/\= Racing towards Chimera =/\= Sitting with her eyes fixed on the starfield passing outside the shuttle craft, Kaitlin anxiously waited for any sign of the Chimera. It had already been several days since she left her last post and she was getting tired of traveling. She couldn't help but wonder what her new shipmates would be like. Sure, she'd read the basic profiles of her superior officers in the copious amounts of spare time she had to waste sitting on the shuttle. The personnel profiles, however, did not always give an indication of what the person was like to work with. Kaitlin resisted the urge to pay the pilot of the shuttle another visit. Th= e pilot was an older man, who had probably logged enough miles to earn himsel= f a frequent flier vacation to Risa. He had probably heard every story of every bored traveler, and had fielded the question of "Are we there yet?" thousands of times. Kaitlin herself had asked that same question at least two or three times, but each time tried to phrase it a little differently. "What is our ETA?" "Is the shuttle expected to arrive soon?" "How much more of this wait do we have?" As she stood up to stretch her legs, she caught the glimpse of something larger than one of the stars in the starfield. Thinking that her eyes were playing tricks on her, she went to one of the small consoles and took the initiative to punch up the shuttle's relative location and that of the Chimera. And no, her eyes weren't playing tricks for once. It was the Chimera. She gathered up the few things she had brought. Now the anticipation of being on board was increasing. Soon she'd be on board.
