====== Bridge, USS Chimera ===== "Still no response sir" announced LT. Foster as a reply to the questioning look Shane gave him. Slightly frowning Shane noded and replied: "Keep trying Lieutenant. The bad guys already know that we are and I would be glad when the good guys (if any) would learn about our arrival as well." Foster noded but his face hinted that he was thinking about this different. Shane knew that trying to contact the colony should be the first thing they should do, but the bridge crew waited for him to arrive on the bridge ... and the two explosions happened earlier. A bit late but still better then not at all, the Chimera tried to contact the colony but till now with no success. Eighter there was noone who could answer the call or the colony OPS was fallen to (any) enemy hands. None of this choices was a pleasant one. Now it was cadet C'el who spoke: "Sir, I have finished my scans of the colony's facilities". She seemed to be satisfied with her own work, but the little frown on her face revealed that the results of her scan were not all pleasant. "I have visualisation if you preffer that sir" she added. Shane smiled a bit. It was not common to present a visualisation about a report, the common way was "audio only" – the certain officer just informed the CO about the results. But well, Initiative was a nice thing so Shane turned on his seat to face the main screen as said: "Go ahead Cadet." The screen blinked and a semi 3 – dimensional map of the Einhoften's facilities and the surrounding area appeared there. C'el's voice informed: "The Einhoften research facility consists of 7 main building spread on a small area of 12.000 m2. I was not able to scan those buildings for lifeforms or any other details cause the whole area of the facility is protected by scan and transport prohibitors. I was able to detect at least 14 such devices, but there are moest probable twice so many in the facility" Shane rolled his eyes and sighed slightly. {Thats the trouble with SECRET facilities. You wont get any usefull informations about it unless you are right in the facility ... unfortunately its then often too late}. "There are traces of several underground levels" C'el continued "under those buildings, but due the scan inhibitors I was unable to confirm that, so we can take it as a hypothetys only. I have detected no life-sign inside the facility nor any energy source, but with those inhibitors beeing active we could not expect anything else" After a small pause she went on: "I've calculated the nearest possible point where we could beam the away team." On the screen appeared a red dot "There sir ... its about 1 km away from the first building from the south". Shane thought for a moment and then noded: "Good work cadet. Please inform Commander Summers about your scan and transmit the coordinates to the transport room. " he ordered. In that moment the turbo lift door hissed open and the blonde Commander Palmer walked in. She was dressed in her uniform and only the slight 'messy' looking of her hair revealed that she was still sleeping just few minutes ago. "Glad you could join us, Miss Palmer; please take your station," Shane said as she walked and passed him to the CONN. She gave him a second glance when she saw he was wearing what looked like a suit of armour. "Keep us in steady orbit" Shane said as he remebered bit for bit the things he was supposed to do as the ship's CO. He didnt expected any troubles with the orbit, but well ... there have been two explosions hitting the ship and who knows what other dangers were lurking outside there. “Sir, the navigational computer is having problems sustaining our orbit. It’s decaying by 0.2 degrees every 60 seconds,” she said after a moment of working at her console, swivelling around in her chair to face Guzman. “My best guess is that it’s a glitch that still had to be fixed before the ship left spacedock.” {Geez ... what have I done?} he asked himself, {what's next? Someone telling me that the sensors just went offline?} “Have Engineering take a look at it as soon as possible,” he said, nodding towards her. “It won’t do to have a brand new ship crash landing on her maiden voyage.” “Aye, sir,” Samantha said, turning back to the CONN. Shane noticed the brief glance she gave him just before turning back to face her own console. He couldnt know about the reason of that look but he asked himself more then one time if she was curious why he signed those transfer reqest papers of her's. There have been reasons for that and among those the wish to give her the chance to re-do some of the things that she's done before ... things that costed human lifes ... Shane stood up from his chair and looked at the main screen where the scenery of planet Sidos exchanged the Einhoften schematics a while ago. He felt that now he could afford the time to change his clothes in his ready room but first he wanted to see if there has been any progress made in the issue of the impulse drive traces left by the cloacked ship. He went over to the science console in the left-back part of the bridge and asked a young ensign that was working there: "Any progress with those traces?" The young man looked up at Shane and he saw nervousness ... almost panic in his green eyes. {Too young for a mission like this, too young for SSF and most prolly never talked to his Commanding officer} he thought during the brief two seconds that took the ensign to answer: "Not ... not really sir. Those traces are really weak and are decaying fastly." He pointed with a long finger at a certain space of his pannel and continued: "I've found someting unusual there sir. We initially thought that those are particles from an federation impuse drive" he said, "and thats's still the truth ... but ... those energy patterns are definitelly not of any federation's technology's origin sir". Shane looked at the energy patterns and shrugged: "This is a secret research station Ensign, those guys could be using some modified tech we dont know about". The ensign looked almost unwilling to disagree with his CO but then said quietly: "Sir, but those are polaron traces and such an energy matrix is quite genuie in the galaxy." "Genuie? What are you trying to tell me ensign?" Shane asked a bit impatiently. "I've have found but one entry in the databanks aboout using such technology ... Dominion warships". "Damn it" escaped from Shane's mouth. {Dominion? What the hell HAPPENED here? Curse all those crazy intel that authorised this whole project} Shane raged in his head. The possible effects of the Dominion beeing involved in this matter were significant. From an raging attack of a forgotten remnant of the former domion forces, through secret weapon developing on the facility to the possibility of breeding Starfleet-supersoldiers in Einhoften. "All right ensign. Please have LT. Oriana working on this. I want to have confirmed data as soon as possible." He said and walked slowly over to his ready room. "LT. Foster, you have the bridge" he called and vanished in the room. ===== 15 minutes later ===== Clad again in a standart uniform, Shane emerged from his ready room and went to his seat. He still thought about the conversation he did have with Rangi a while ago. They've talked about a medical member of the away team. The logical way was to take WO Ra'nar as CMO on the away team, but Rangi explained to him that Ra'nar was having personal problems with the Jem'hadar and his presence could create an unstable element in the away team. She choosed Ens. Okrin istead the WO and Shane agreed with her ... afterall she was the XO and it was her away team. Shane hoped that Ra'nar and his aversion to the Jem'hadar wont cause any troubles. He just sat himself in his seat when Foster reported that the away team was beamed over to the planet, one km away from the Einhoften facility. Shane felt quite uneasy while waiting for Rangi's initial report about the away team's situation. She was his beloved and this WAS an very dangerous mission and he was not sure if it was a good decision to send HER on the away team ... maybe to her death. +Taps+ Summers to Chimera..Transport complete..we're heading to our objective. + Shane pushed a button on his chair-arm console: "Chimera here. Proceed as planned and with maximal caution" He did his best to hide his feelings, but he was very glad that his beloved was all right ... for now at least. ===== End of log ===== Cmdr.
