== /\ USS Chimera /\ ===== Jack stood tall as he marched into the Briefing room off from the transporter room. Cortez was a mere foot behind him and he marched in to find everyone waiting, save for the Executive Officer, who arrived about 40 seconds after he arrived. Rangi gave her mission brief, which was ironically brief, due to the lack of intelligence.Once she had dismissed the team they all followed suit to the transporter room, Rangi remained in the briefing room for a split second longer than anyone, Jack stopped in his tracks and turned towards her. "Commander, Any hostilities between the two of us should be buried until this is over, this is a live fire situation and any..." "Major. Dismissed." she cut him in his tracks. Jack turned on his heel and marched towards the transporter room. The ODA were assembled before him along with a Science Officer and a Medical Officer. His file read that he was once the ODA Commander on the Chimera, something which concerned Jack. He hoped this guy, demoted for whatever reason, would hold his place and leave the ODA to the ODA. The guy was older than he was, and no doubt pictured Jack as a Kid, but Walsh was Marine Major, which wasn't a rank which came without going into battle more times than anyone in that room. "Chief, The ODA will go down first. Lieutenant Cortez will take half down and I'll join him with the rest. Hold for 60 seconds and send Commander Summers and CO. down, we'll have the area secured by then, and if we haven't, well...you'll know about it." Walsh said firmly waving Cortez onto the transporter PADD. The blue haze washed over him and Jack signalled for the guys to secure the immediate vicinity before her royal highness came down on the next transport. Cortez was already doing what a good Assistant Commander should do and was getting his hands dirty with the lads. After Summers presence came down he assigned three men to her and the rest of her team. They were here to find out what had gone on, Jack was there to make sure that they stayed alive. He wasn't particularly impressed with this planet, he knew that it held some importance for special forces to be involved, and he knew that there was a high possibility that he was going to die on this planet not having known why he was here or what he was doing, but such was the life of a special forces operative, and one that went part in parcel with being a marine. Cortez had been gone for only a few minutes, but that was all that Richard needed for recon, any longer and Jack would have to assume that the Lieutenant was dead and re-evaluate the situation from there. Fortunately Cortez was moderately good at his job, and the Lieutenant came swiftly back through the tree line to Walsh who was holding position. "The base looks deserted, no guards, nothing. there were no signs of any activity". Cortez reported back keeping his voice low. "OK" Jack whispered silently, one ear on Cortez's report and the other on the activity around him. He wasn't the kind of unit commander to be caught with his pants down listening to someone talking. "Sir, one more thing", Richard said before moving away, "We found the body of a marine up by the fence." Walsh looked back at Richards face, "Makes sense, they were sent in first, what's your point". Jack said bluntly not wanting to dwell on the fact that the marine corp. had already been here and got their butts handed to them. "His body was still warm". Richard said plainly, "he hasn't been dead for very long". Jacks eyes narrowed, if only they had been quicker in their arrival that man need not have died. Death went hand in hand with the Marine Corp but when one of your own goes down, especially a whole unit it leaves a sickening feeling of anger and thirst for vengeance. His thoughts were interrupted by Commander Summers. "Major..I want you to search the base and secure it. I have the blueprints Commander Guzman gave us at the meeting. I know which building houses the computer core and probably the archives. Ensign Nejor, Lieutenant Terek and I will go there. The three men you've assigned will accompany us." she ordered. He didn't like it, but then again it wasn't his place to argue, in his mind separating up the away team put them at risk against an offensive. Rangi made her way towards her objective with her team, and Walsh remained stationary with his. After he'd cleared in his mind what he was going to do from here he motioned for Cortez to move the team out and he took point, keeping crouched, his rifle pointed forward scanning the area in front of him a full 180 degrees as he progressed on. Not long after they'd been on the move they came towards a small collection of rocks for them to rest at securely. Sitting down in the mud Jack signalled for Cortez to order the team to a stand still whilst they gathered their position. Suddenly G'tak came swiftly up from the back. "Major, Commander Summers team has gone dead, last I heard they just got hit with some fire and then the line cut out. Orders?" "We've got to help them, they could be injured!" Michaels said with a concerned look on her face. "Hold your place Specialist" Jack ordered firmly, he wondered if his new Med Spec had something to prove. "If we hot foot it to Commander Summers position then we'll no doubt give away our position and likely get cut down by suppressive fire." "They know we're here" Cortez muttered. "Indeed. Lynch. I need you to try and get through that field, we need to try and cut though at least some of the interference. We continue on as we are regardless of Commander Summers situation." Jack ordered. "Lets move out." he stood now. The team following in standard single file for a mission of this sort. He was pretty sure the enemy already had some kind of Intel on their team size and position, but he didn't want to leave any obvious ways to determine such things. He couldn't work out why they didn't go for Jacks team, they were the obvious target. Once the ODA were taken down Summers team would merely just be a mop up job. His thoughts were interrupted rather ironically by a crackle. He stopped immediately holding his fist out in the air to his side and crouching down. The rest of the team did so, everyone had their eyes around watching, listening for where the noise came from. "I think I...." he heard being muttered from behind him, which was interrupted by a blue pulse shot hitting the leg of Fabrini sending him down. A Scout. "Cortez" Jack waved him on and Lynch too. The Two of them bolted out like lightening after whoever had shot Frabrini down before they managed to return to the compound and report in Jack turned to Michaels who was already making her way to Fabrini. "Get him back on his feet. I cant afford to lose anyone." ===== Major Jack Walsh ODA Commander USS Chimera
