======= Main Engineering =======
Hawk sat at the console looking at the display with a perplexed look. He
had been looking at the diagnostic of the navigational system. The
problem was there were no visible problems with the hardware, or
physical makup to the system. He had personally been the one to double
check the entire system and it was 100% operational...then. Now however
it was not 100%.
He decided to take a small break and get a cup of coffee, halfway across
engineering however he was contacted by the bridge. Cmdr Guzman pointed
out his desire to fix the navigational problem, which Hawk had no
findings on so he just accepted the order again. Also there was the
issue of the craft that planted the bombs on the hull, there was a need
to detect them as well.
The facts were beginning to fit together in a horrible way Hawk now
realized. Jem'Hadar in a starfleet program, silent facility they were
at, federation drive traces from the bomb planting craft, and now
malfunctions around the ship, which ironically started just after the
explosions.
Speaking of malfunctions Hawk was pulled from his thoughts as the ship
subtley lunged to starboard. Slamming his newly aquired coffee down he
went back to work at the console. Starboard, number five inertial damper
just malfunctioned.
"DAMNIT...!" Hawk said in a rather loud and aggrevated tone.
"Someone take a kit and physically inspect the #5 starboard damper, and
tell me your findings." Hawk spoke to several engineers standing nearby.
The group stood and looked around for a second seeming a bit confused.
Hawk added, "Now damnit." And the group jumped into action. Two actually
headed out the door with kits but Hawk wasn't going to stop them, may be
more than one can handle so extra help was fine.
Now the list of malfunctions was growing, First navigation, then slight
hickups in the ships comm system, minor sensor flaws, and now an
inertial damper. The only thing for sure was all those systems were
checked and double checked before leaving Bragg, so what in the world
was wrong. And with a giant epiphany Hawk raised his head from the
console and realized the problem.
"Computer, check the programming records for all ships systems and tell
me which systems had programming code uploads within the last 24 hours,
and when." Hawk spoke to the computer.
In the normal female computer voice the reponse sounded, "Wihtin the
last 24 hours six systems have had programming code uploads. Navigation,
sensor grid control, communications, inertial subsystem J-Aplpha 5 and
6, and phaser control. All systems altered on SD 240511.02 at 22:34.06
hours."
"Computer, when were the explosions yesterday." Hawk added.
"22:34.05 hours." Came the simple reply.
That was it, the ship that planted the bombs was open for planting the
bomb for approximatly 2 seconds. Then the bombs were a diversion, Hawk
had suspected something else was wrong but couldn't put his finger on
it. He had the areas around the explosions searched for devices but it
turns out the sabotage was a computer virus, or a trojan of some type.
Unfortunatly before Hawk could contact Cmdr Guzman to inform him of
these findings, red alert was sounded. Hawk surmised that the shutle was
back, either that or a larger Jem Hadar ship was upon them. Either way
Hawk worked fervishly at directing engineering to balance the power
systems for red alert. Shields, weapons, and drive systems were the
priority at this moment.
Drive systems, Hawk just realized that there was a method to the system
malfunctions. They couldn't go to warp drive, if they did and the
specified dampers went down the ship would be ripped to pieces. They
also were set up to be without communications, unable to stear, unable
to aim there shots, and blind, all at once.
+taps+ LT Versey to Cmdr Guzman
+taps+ Guzman here, go ahead Mr Versey.
+taps+ I wouldn't recommend warp drive sir, I have discovered a trojan
horse +taps+ virus in several ships systems. And if we go to warp the
ship could be ripped apart.
+taps+ which systems are we talking about LT.
+taps+ Navigation, sensors, key inertial dampers, phaser control, and
+taps+ commun.......squeekk...kkkkkrrrrreeee.
The communication was cut short by high pitched squeaking and krackling
sounds. Hawk went back to work at the console. As he did he sent a
crewman to contact LT Rodgers and inform him of what was going on. The
rest of the engineering staff was also to be pulled on duty and get to
work. This had to be fixed now, and it was going to take a lot of heads
to "weed it out"
