*** Near Einhoften Complex *** The river was not wide, but flowed fast and was deepend by the torrential rain and the many small tributaries running into it.The short crossing was hazardous, but already soaked to the skin, the away team found the cold water made little impact in itself. Rangi was the third of the group to crawl onto the narrow verge at the foot of a higher bank and looked up to see the sergeant begin to move up towards the clear ground at almost shoulder height. Next thing she knew, there was an explosion that made her ears ring and with a mighty splash the seargeant landed back in the river. She saw him struggle and on instinct made to move back for him only to find herself pushed roughly aside onto the muddy grass. "Stay down" the corporal shouted, then added 'ma'am' as an after thought. Other smaller explosions sounded above their heads but ceased as the injured man was pulled to safety, partly by Terek and partly by the third marine. {... Mum was right when she told me to keep my umbrella with me....} thought Terek as he was after a few moments on the surface wet as the Zizlian church mouse in a monsoon season. But fortunately when they started moving towards the base, the cold that made him shake a little when he was firstly showered after transport, faded away as they were moving energetically so he felt that he's now quite all right. Shortly after they departed, they came to a narrow river. It looked that in summer it would be a nice little stream, but with all this Prophets damn rain, it was now like a wild Amazon river. On their way to the base, Rangi introduced him to the new Bajoran on board, but there was no time for formalities, so he just nodded as acknowledgment and they continued to the ford. Swimming with a backpack in fast and surprisingly deep water, with thunderclaps and lightenings above head, was a very ... interesting.. experience and Terek put it on the list of the experiences that he won't look for as a recreation. Well at least there was one advantage, they were already so wet that getting into the river made no difference in amount of water. His thoughts about that damn water were interrupted by the ODA sergeant falling into the river with words "Take C...!". This was accompanied by an explosion and closely followed by other smaller ones, which seemed like a phaser fire to Terek. They all fell to the ground immediately, cowering behind the banks of the river which were fortunately a bit elevated as it seemed that river was regulated exactly for the purpose of the floods or something like that. He and one other marine towed the injured sergeant into safety and Terek immediately took a tricorder and begun scanning. Okrin too knelt beside the fallen man also running diagnostic scans. "He'll live" his tricorder told him. "Much of the explosion was absorbed by his combat armor." he stated matter of factly. He still needed to work on his human skills, but this would do. Rangi leaned back against the bank and found marginal shelter there from the incessant rain. She looked at the marine as she tapped her combadge +Taps+ Summers to Chimera. Emergency transport ODA Sergeant....Harvey to sickbay." she said, twisting her head sideways to read the name on his combat jacket. "Anything? she asked Okrin and Terek sure that one of them would have a result so that Ra'nar would know what to expect. "I'll take care of him, Lt." Okrin told Terek. "He's unconscious, with superficial burns, and lacerations over 40% of his body." He told Rangi, who relayed the info back to Chimera. "But he will live." As Nejor said he can handle it, Terek switched the scaning mode to determine what happened. After a moment, he looked up from his tricorder to Rangi which was right now informed about sergant's status by Nejor. "Madam, I'm picking up residual electron emissions. It seems that what hit the sergeant was some sort of proximity detonated mine. It reacted on a change of conductivity caused by a closing body." As Terek was talking he only saw Nejor with a hypospray that gave sergeant temporary treatment and then a blue haze of a transport beam, taking him to safety. Hopefully it won't be too late, but Terek had his doubts. He waited as the sergeant disappeared back on Chimera, then said. "It is just a speculation, but I think, it will be difficult to detect them, as they don't emit any detectable radiation or something. It only reacts if conductivity in their vicinity changes and allows power to trigger it." he thought a bit about theory. "hmm it seems that they have to be remotely programable, because in this rain they would simply explode all, so they have to be able to change a sensitivity..." he mumbled for himself thinking how this could be used as advantage for them. Rangi added the theory to her communication with the ship. "Its a mine ma'am" the corporal confirmed "...just on the edge of the bank. He must have detonated it when he tried to climb over." +Taps+ Summers to Walsh. Be aware that there are mines... about twenty metres from the complex fence. We have one man down.+ A vivid two second flash of lightening lit the scene in an eery white light. Noone spoke though each wondered what they would find next. The thunder rolled, taking longer now than previously and Rangi, looking up at the sky saw the faint outline of one of Sidos two blue moons. "At least the rain is lessening." she stated. Corporal Weaver moved aside as she pushed herself away from the bank and bent to pick up the sergeants rifle. She ran her hand along the weapon, wiping some mud away, then looked at them each in turn. "Ok..." she said quietly."..we'll continue to the complex.Corporal..you lead the way. We'll go in single file at two meter distance..just in case we have any more nasty surprises like the last one." She pulled the cap Okrin had given her more firmly onto her head, then holding the rifle securely at her side, motioned the corporal to move on. He did so, climbing onto the bank just to the left of the small crater the expoding mine had created. Rangi then Terek, Okrin and the other marine followed him. Their five dark shapes began to cross the wet grass towards the fence. *** End Log *** Commander Summers XO USS Chimera & Ltjg Terek AsSciO USS Chimera & Ens Nejor AMO USS Chimera ODA( npcs)
