===== Enhoften compound - hallway leading to labs
=====
As the group stopped in front of a duranium reinforced blast door It
was
opened right now.
The way was blocked only by an observation door made of steelglass, but
everywhere were marks ' Keep Clear' and the sign composed of three
semicircles marking biohazardous environment wasn't too cheerfull as
well.
On their way they hadn't encountered any resistance so far. That
quienest
was almost spooky. It made Terek feel a strange shivering on his neck.
He
took a tricorder and looked at the scan results. The room behind the
door
looked safe. Not only by info from the scan, but also the dim green
light
that shone over the door frame was signaling that no hazard was there.
"I think it is safe for survey..." said Terek looking on the rest of
them. Rangi nodded, as she raised her head from studying the tricorder
in
her own hand.She glanced around. {Is there anything we've overlooked?}
but
all was quiet and unchanged.
"Go ahead please" she said and Corporal Weaver stepped in front of
her.
Okrin couldn't wait to see what they would find. He still couldn't
phantom why he was here with his shipmates, on this crazy mission. Who,
in
their right mind, add agreed to try and educate a race of socialy inept
warriors, who live for about 20 years or so and lived for combat only.
He
scratched an itch on his right temple. He rubbed his chin as he wondered
what answers they would find. It was still a mistery for him, but
somehow he
wanted to go check on the guy that gave the go for this and beat some
sense
into him.
So the ODA corporal, who seemed to be somehow skilled in opening
locked
doors, faced the control panel on the right side fo the door. He tapped
it a
few times and the steelglass door silently opened letting them inside.
"Shit, this is strange...." said Weaver staring at the console.
"What?!" asked Terek looking at him, the rest of the team stopping on
hold and also looking at the corporal.
"Well, as I've attempted to bypass the security lock it popped out
the
note that security was breached, but only for a split of second. It
almost
looked like a malfunction. The security protocols were quite simple to
bypass with the proper attitude, but still, that was strange."
{All right, so now, we can't be sure if the half of the base isn't
after
us...} thought Terek. But somehow it was relief. Till now, they still
couldn't be sure if they'd drawn someone's attention or not. Now it was
more
than sure.
"And now?" Rangi asked, frowning at the panel suspiciously. Weaver
shrugged.
"Its fine...like I say...a malfunction." Rangi looked at Terek as he
spoke.....
"OK, in that case it would be better if we keep moving, right?" And
with
this he raised his phaser and stepped into the small room that served as
the
locker and preparation room for the next labs that were hidden by an
airlock
door. He looked around.
The room was lit by an unpleasant shade of a blue light almost like
UV
spectrum. He knew that this is normal in the labs as it allows
scientists to
see more sharply, but still he preffered normal light instead of this,
or at
least a bit darked shade of blue. When his eyes adapted to the light, he
saw
that on the left side of the room were security lockers for the
employees,
on the other side a few tables and shelves with lab equipment,a door
marked
as supply storage and what was most interesting on both sides of the
laboratory airlock were on the pads standing in holders HEV suits. Four
on
each side.
"Niiice..." said Terek quietly as he saw the orange painted life
support
armours. The black rubber like body layer enforced by upper layer made
of
orange plasteel, tight collar for hermetic sealing of helmet, the air
tank
on the back and a utility belt.
"Oh great. You want us to wear this?" asked the other marine.
"If we are about to pass through the labs, then yes soldier. Those
aren't
as firm and heavy armour as Marine ones, but they are much lighter and
not
so clumsy. Moreover I don't see you have helmet for your armor here so
if
you wish to survive I'd recommend you to take this...."
As marine gave him one of those I_don't_care_what_you_think looks
Terek
looked at Rangi "If of course we are about to enter the labs madam, but
I
think we can perhaps find something important in there."
"Yes we are." she agreed and giving the marine a small sympathetic
smile
told him. "The lieutenant is right ofcourse. We have no idea whats
inside
...and there wouldnt BE suits here if there wasnt a hazard would there?"
Faced with such feminine logic he reached for a suit. Rangi took one
for
herself and sat down on the floor to pull on the boots and lower suit.
She
stood up, pulling the suit up and sliding her arms into the sleeves. It
fitted fairly well even if it was a little on the large side. The helmet
went on and her muffled voice asked for Okrin to check the seal for her.
She
adjusted the suits control, regulating the air and soon became at ease
inside her little mini environment.
When Terek took the orange suit of the wall he had to admit that despite
how
heavy it looked it wasn;t really so bad. So he sat on one of the benches
at
the lockers, removed his uniform, let on only his standard starfleet
thermo
underlay, then pushed himself into the opening in the suit first legs,
then
get on rest of the suit, seal the safelock on the upper part, adjust
colar
to his size. Now he picked up the last part of the equipment, helmet. he
put
it on, turned a bit to the left so the locks clicked and the display on
his
left forearm showed all systems green. During that time he heard a soft
female voice in his helmet that reported suit diagnostics and as it said
everything is all right, Teerk put on the utility belt, his backpack,
took a
tricorde and phaser and stepped to the line with others.
Okrin wan't quite done, but gladly stopped to check on his XO and
friend.
"It's all good except one thing." He said, checking her unit controls
and
system monitor. He pressed on a button, which retracted the extra length
in
the arms and legs, making the one size-fits all suit to Rangi's
measurements. The others did the same. "I worked with these suits once.
It's
fairly new gear from R&D." He stopped the selling chpeel he had for them
and
finished putting his on. After performing his checks, he took hold of
his
weapon and slided a tricorder in one of the suit's pockets. He only
disliked
this sit, cause his gear was inside of the suit, except his weapon and
tricorder. The five orange suited figures stood ready.
"Lets go in here first." Rangi said indicating the nearest
door."Corporal..if you will do the honours?"
Corporal Weaver, and his almost two meters stuffed in the suit,
mumbled
something that luckily the suits intercom interpreted as increased
background noise. Then he moved to the airlock panel, tapped few
commands
and the outer part of the chamber opened. Luckily it was big enough for
all
of them, so they stepped inside, then cylindric door slid back on the
place
and pressurizing sequence launched. They heard the hissing of the
depresurized air, as all of the biohazard labs had lower pressure than
the
rest of the world for if there would be a breach, the air would be
sucked
inside, not outside, thus keeping the toxic materials inside at least
for so
long before the countermeasures would take place. He felt the well known
cracking in his ears as the pressure leveled and after they were all
scanned, the inner chamber door opened letting them inside the lab
itself.
The two marines held their rifles ready, quickly checking the sealed
room. Okrin Terek and Rangi looked around from where they stood and each
taking a different direction, moved into the room...
