The plan for the assault on Einhoften was a little more complicated
than Richard told the CO. In fact it was pretty thin. One thing for
certain though, was that there was no way the Chimeras SF Operators
were going to fail this time. Whether the plan worked perfect and the
Jemmy's just gave up, or whether it fell apart and the Jemmy's were
waiting for them at the landing zone, failure was not an option.
Walsh put himself in charge of the diversion. The central idea was to
get the Jem'Hadar warriors inside Einhoften to over-react to his small
squad of marines and hopefully launch a pursuit.
But the main focus was just to keep the pressure off the main force
until they could at least land the shuttles and prepare for the
attack. There were exactly 38 men and women in the main assault
force. They were still outnumbered 2 to 1, but the heavy firepower
that they would be carrying should more than make up for the
difference in numbers.
The Jem'Hadar were tough, but they died like everyone else, and now it
was personal.
"Put your seatbelts on boys", the female shuttle pilot yelled over her
shoulder as she steered into the planets atmosphere, "Its gonna be
rough".
Richard grabbed the straps holding him into his seat as the ship began
rocking back and forth. Glancing to his side he noticed Pateli,
puking onto the floor. He was going to laugh but a loud bang followed
by a huge jerk of the ship forced his head to slam back against the
wall.
"What the hell was that", Richard heard someone mumble as he held the
reins tighter.
"Damn women drivers", Pateli managed to say wiping the puke from his chin.
"Alright everyone, we're clear of the atmosphere", the pilot again
yelled over her shoulder, "ETA to drop zone in 55 seconds".
"Ok", Richard said unclasping his seat belt and standing up, "Prepare
your gear", he yelled out, slapping an ammo chip into his rifle.
"Remember, check your targets, there's friendlies down there".
As he finished talking the small shuttle slowed down dramatically,
followed by a subtle thump. "Alright boys", the pilot said this time
twisting around in her seat, "Good Luck". Then she opened the doors
and watched as the Marines quickly ran off the transport.
Richard gave a slight nod to the pilot and then stepped out onto the
dirt himself.
It was a calm sunny day. Not a cloud in the sky. No trace of the
storm from the night before. Cortez shielded his eyes as he crouched
near a large rock, Pateli and Jones at his side.
One of the reasons Richard chose to assault the compound from the East
was because of the ridgline and mountain that would conceal the teams
insertion. The shuttle pilot made sure to fly as low as possible to
avoid being spotted both visually and with any radar that they might
have at the compound. The downside was that they were now about 2
miles from Einhoften, which meant that they had less than 1 hour to
reach the objective before Walsh started his diversion.
Once the tricorder scans came up empty Richard gave a nod to Corporal
Jones and ordered the team to move out.
