The last resisting Jem'Hadar warriors were holding up inside the
communications room. Oddly enough, the resistance the team had faced
thus far was scattered and minimal. The rest of the compound was
pretty much clear except for this last building. The first marine to
approach the building had taken a direct hit to the face from a sniper
on the buildings roof.
The problem was that their was no covered approach, so the assault
team stood huddled behind the the nearest wall and tried to figure out
how to take the building without dieing in the process.
"Just blow it the fuck up", Pateli said leaning back against the wall,
taking a breather.
"We cn't", Richard said not looking back at the PFC. "There may be
more friendlies in there".
"Just give me a shot", Fabrini spoke up, a few feet away.
Richard nodded. "OK, but don't miss".
Fabrini nodded back as Cortez stood at the side of the building taking
a deep breath. "Everyone be ready to storm the building as soon as
the snipers down", he said. Then like a bat out of hell he shot out
from the building and began running as fast as his legs could carry
him across the open area.
The sniper immediately took aim and fired at Cortez, the phaser blast
sending dirt and rocks flying as it missed its target and hit the
ground.
Fabrini who had immediately turned the corner as well stood still and
aimed his rifle towards the sniper on the roof, but was unable to get
a clear shot.
Cortez kept running to nowhere really, as another phaser blast fired
past his head, missing him by inches.
Fabrini moved over a few feet until his aim was clear, then holding
his breath he let off one shot and watched the Jem'Hadar sniper slump
over, dead.
Richard heard Fabrini's shot and immediately fell to the ground on a
mound of grass. The assault team had already rounded the corner and
was preparing to breach the entrance to the building when he stood
back up.
The corporal who planted the explosives on the door to blow it open
used twice as much as was needed and the resulting explosion not only
disintegrated the door but sent two men flying to the ground with
shrapnel wounds.
The battle inside the building was over very quickly, only one
Jem'Hadar remained inside, fighting to the death. Luckily the
equipment was still operational, and except for damage caused by the
explosion, everything was in pretty good shape.
A few minutes later they were able to take down the inhibitors and
re-establish communications with the Chimera. It turned out that
Walsh's team not only evaded the pursuing Jemm'Hadar, but also managed
to wipe them out with sharp guerrilla type hit and run tactics. Not
to mention a few well placed explosive traps set by Lynch.
The Jem'Hadar were definitely a worthy foe and Richard couldn't help
but feel a bit admiration for the warriors that they had just fought.
He stood in front of the communications equipment and pulled out his
whiskey flask. Pateli was standing by the doorway smoking a
cigarette.
"Patch me through to the ship", Richard said gulping down a big swig
of the liquid inside his flask.
The marine manning the consoles nodded, pressed a few keys and a
second later everyone in the room heard the familiar sound of Foster's
voice.
"Lt. Foster, this is 2nd Lieutenant Richard Cortez, security code Zeta
Bravo 4669, reporting in. The Einhoften complex is secure, I need
quick transport for nine men and one women, to be transported directly
to sickbay, over".
A few minutes later the teams wounded were transported back to the
Chimera and Richard began organizing his remaining team into defensive
positions around the complex. There was still a few hours till
reinforcements arrived and took over control of the base, so just in
case any remaining Jemmy's got any bright ideas about trying out a
counter attack, the ODA would be prepared.
