He knew that Tripper knew ( that he knew that he knew ... ::grins::) that Shane strongly disliked to be called back when he decided to leave the bridge. {It must be something important, when Tripper risks my mood ...} he thought with a trace of evilry. {Only Rangi likes to challenge me ...} "I am detecting a shuttle leaving the station" Tripper called knowing that this is sure an event the 'mood-ish' XO should know about. He looked down at his console and added: "Its still near the event horizon of the station's tunnels, so i cant get a scan lock on it ... but its heading our way. Not directly at us but quite close ..." Surprise appeared on Shane's face. A shuttle leaving the station was really the last thing he would expect to happen now. But {there you go} he thought. He walked swiftly back to the bridge and headed towards the Ops station. That shuttle could be very well a hostile one, loaded full with blood-hunting aliens and heading directly to Chimera ... Shane had to act. Looking at Tripper he said: "Ensign, connect me to La Rochelle and hail the unkown shuttle". Turning towards TAC he said: "Activate the shields, prepare the tractor beam". The TAC officer shook his head slightly: "Sir, we have not enought energy for the shields and tractor beam aviable. Eighter shields or beam, but no both at the same time." "What?" Shane turned back and glanced at the TAC officer. He knew that it was not the man's fault that there was not enough energy and more then that he himself ordered to shut down all non-basic systems ... including power sources and the ship was only on secondary power. Sure, secondary power sources on a space ship like the Chimera were designed to perform up to 60% of the primary warp core for a short time, but the ship was on secondary power for quite some time now and quite a deal of energy was in use by 2LT. Acheson in his level 10 forcefields. Shane calmed a bit down and said: "Make it shields then, but try to find a way how to squeeze power for that tractor beam as well". "Aye, sir" replied the TAC officer. Well, this was sure not a text-book approach when meeting an unknown ship. The Starfleet liked to be described as non-agressive and friendly to other species and it was 'expected' that ship's Captains handle most of the situations peacefully ... and raising of shields and preparing a tractor beam to intercept an unknown shuttle could be hardly described as an peacefully handling ... But well, Shane was NO ship's Captain and he left the peacefull ways up to Keylor ... {IF he ever returns alive} ... Shane was a tactical officer and a ship with raised shields and a tractor beam prepared seemed to him a better choice than a 'peacefull' acting ship cut in halfs by some freaking alien shuttle ... "I have contact with La Rochelle" Tripper said reffering to the shuttle with Nick and Mike. "On Screen" Shane said and turned towards the main screen. After a second the magnified picture of the ex-borg CEO, LT. Nick Quayle appeared. He was looking at Shane with a bit surprised facial expression. "Lieutenant" Shane started, "we have detected a shuttle leaving the station and heading roughly in our direction. We are not able to scan the shuttle by now, so i advise you to be carefull. If you will get a chance try to scan the shuttle, but your primary mission is to fly to the station and rescue our away team." Nick blinked into the screen and then replied: "I understand Commander. We will carefully try to scan the shuttle from the distance." Behind Nick was the noding head of LtJg. Blackburn to see. "Very well Lieutenant" Shane replied, "take care. Chimera out". The screen went blank for a second and then was replaced by the star view immediatelly. Shane turned around to head for the Captain's seat when he noticed the pretty councelor sitting XO's one. Shane noded towards her quite persuaded not to think about - if Athena came her with an escort like he ordered for all the crew.
