Hotel plot starter log – "The Hotel" by Mumacik
======= Bridge, USS Chimera =======
It was the day after New Year's Day and Shane was sitting in the CO's chair once again. For a moment he thought back on the xmass party and on the night spend with Rangi afterwards. It was a shame how little time the two of them had for each other. Trouble was that Rangi was the Executive officer and Shane the CO ... and they could hardly afford to be 'out of duty' at the same time. The Chimera was a big ship ... and there was ALWAYS things to take care of ...
Shane scratched his chin and and reached for a PADD that was on the XO's chair. It was a status report PADD and Shane started to read it. Only days passed since the Chimera left Sidos and since that time they've got no specific orders from SSF Command. The orders Shane's got was to patrol along a few waypoints in this sector. He hoped that the time off the Chimera was enjoying at the moment was a sort of a reward from SSF Command for the success of the Marduk mission. The Chimera was sheduled to arrive at SB 70 in three days where the crew will be given a week of R&R on the base and the ship will be inspected by base engineering department.
After a while of reading, Shane put the PADD aside with a slight sigh. All departments reported everything all right, besides a few minor flaws reported from Engineering. The day seemed to be long and boring ... unlike so many in the past.
One thing that concerned him was the count of casualities from the last mission. They've got several crewmen dead but several more of the crew were reported sick and unfit for duty. The amount of time needed for full recovery was unknown and WO Ra'nar could not even give him a guess. Trouble was that affected were even several key officers. Shane made a mental note to make a visit in the sickbay and have a talk with the CMO about the crew's health.
Shane's thoughts were interrupted by the voice of LT. Foster. He looked up from his console and said in a surprised tone: "Sir, our warp field is collapsing" He tapped a few buttons and Shane felt it now as well. A very slight jerk of the ship as it left the warp domain and entered normal space. "We have dropped out of warp" finished the Ops officer.
Shane turned to Foster and asked: "What happened?"
Foster tapped his console for a moment before replied with a slight shrug: "I dont know sir. Our warp field suddenly started to collapse, but I dont see a reason for that".
Shane noded and taped his armchair console: "Bridge to Engineering"
+TAPS+ Lieutenant Rodgers here sir +
"Lieutenant" Shane said, "Can you please tell me why we fell out of warp?"
After a little while the anser from the CEO came: + TAPS+ No, sir, I can't. All I know is that something interferred with our warp pattern and that made the warp field to collapse. But what it was ... I have no idea ... yet ... +
Shane thought for a moment that it must be some sort of a curse ... almost ALL CEO's of the Chimera had the bad custom to think that the CO was often asking wayward things.
"All right Lieutenant. Do your magic and keep me informed. Guzman out"
Shane looked now in the direction of the HELM station. It was manned by Commander Palmer and Shane thought for a moment again back on the party where Samantha and Rangi had a longer talk. One thing was quite certain ... after the X!Chi mission ,where Samantha was revealed as Intel operative, a gap was created between the Commander and the rest of the crew. She was a sort of an outsider during the whole last mission. Only recently a few of the crew started to interact with Samantha during off-duty time and Rangi was among those persons as well.
Looking at the back of the blone woman he asked: "Commander Palmer, whats our position?"
Like expecting such a question Palmer replied: "Sector 231, three light years away from Bentelus star system"
Shane noded and turned towards tactical: "Ensign?"
Dexter noded and replied: "I've detected no ships in the vincinity sir. But there is something interesting some 200.000 km away from us. It appears to be a kind of a space station even if there is no station recorded to be there."
Shane looked at the young TAC officer and asked: "A station? "
Dexter noded again: "Yes sir. It's not a federational station and there are six ships docked on the station. Two are starfleet's ships, one Ferengi merchant ship, one Klingon bird of prey, one ship from Betazed and one Vulcan science ship." He looked up and added: "Quite a collection.
"Fleet ships?" Shane asked.
"Yes sir. Oberth and Nova class. Unfortunatelly I can't make a detail scan of those ships because the sudden drop out of warp seemed to have had a negative effect on our sensor grid. I expect we have to recalibrate the whole matrix."
Shane knew that the recalibration of the matrix will take at least a day. It was quite an unfortunate event and Shane hoped that it wasnt how the whole year 2406 will be like. "Can we hail the station?" he asked. Dexter noded and Shane ordered him to open hailing frekvency to the station.
"This is Commander Guzman from the USS Chimera ... "
The main screen went alive and a large (and fat) figure of some unknown humanoid appeared in the middle. It was sitting in a luxury chair in the middle of what seemed to be a lagre marble titled office. The desk in front of the humanoid seemed to be of massive wood, richly carved. The whole room was a scene of luxury. "I am Ponozka and am the Hotelmaster of the Living Dream Hotel" said the humanoid with a wide smile. "If you and your crew wish to spend a pleasant holiday in our hotel, you are most wellcome".
{That guy is a hasty one} Shane thought {like a real business man ... fastly catching every chance}. But Shane wasnt a hasty man and therefore he asked: "Thank you for the offer Mr. Ponozka. But there is something that wonders me a bit and that's the fact that your hotel isnt on our maps ... and those are quite updated".
The Hotelmaster smiled even broader (wouldnt he have ears, he would smile all around the head) and noded: "There is an easy explanation dear Commander. We are a nomadic folk and our hotel is only a mere week in this sector. We cruise through the galaxy and offer our hospitability to all folks in the entire galaxy. As I've already said, we arrived only a week ago in this sector but we have already many guests in our hotel. "
Shane's next question would be about why he's never heard about a traveleling hotel of this name but the Hotelmaster already replied him. Those guys are only a week in this sector. {Already six ships in a week ... quite some performance} he thought.
There was something in the back of his mind that warned him to be carefull but all logical arguments said otherwise. The Chimera could not continue on her way for at least a day ... till engineering finds out about the warp field problems and Science recalibrates the Sensor grid. They are supposed to have at least a week of R&R ... so why shouldnt they spend a day or two in this hotel? Hotel or Starbase ... all the same ... and this Hotel looks to be quite a luxurious one. It could be a very nice spend time...
Shane finally noded: "You persuaded me Mr. Ponozka. With your agreemed, the Chimera will dock on your hotel and the crew will be allowed to beam on board your hotel. We shall stay for a day or two, depending on the speed of a few reparations we have to perform."
Mr. Ponozka's face lit in a genuie joy: "O ... you are most wellcome Commader. We shall expect your crew in a while and we'll prepare a small bufet meal as a greeting gift from out Hotel. If you and your staff will join the bufet, I would be very happy."
"Thank you Mr. Ponozka" Shane said smiling quite pleased about the friendly wellcome of the Hotelmaster, "we will arrive at the hotel shortly".
The Screen blinked again and the all known star pattern appeared and Shane went back to his seat ordering: "Commander Palmer, please set the course for the Living dream hotel, full impulse".
"Aye, aye sir" Samantha replied.
"Lieutenant Foster" Shane continued, "please inform all departments that once we have docked on the hotel the crew is free to visit the place. Untill Lieutenant Rodgers will have the warp problem managed, its R&R time".
Foster noded and Shane looked once again at Samantha: "Engage!"
