Hawk awaited Jason in main engineering. Rick had moved onto the warp
field
issue. Maybe there was a correlation between the two, it was almost
certain
that one problem was causing the other. Rick was going to try and figure
out
if there are any "smoking guns" there.
In the mean time Stephans and Versey were to try and find a way around
the
sensor problem. As Hawk stood there blankly staring at the bulkhead
Jason
entered the area. He nudged Hawk and asked him if he was having an
episode,
(joking around still referring back to his mad engineer episode). Hawk
snapped out of his thought process and laughed.
"No I wasn't even looking over there, I was thinking and didn't even see
what was going on around me." Hawk said with a chuckle.
Jason replied, "Man, that's deep thought when you don't even see what's
going on around you and your eyes are open."
The two shared a few jokes and Hawk had a good idea just pop into his
head.
To be more precise and idea was presented to him earlier and he just now
remembered it. Terek had mentioned trying to use the shuttle sensors.
Hawk gave Jason a wry grin and said, "Terek gave me a good idea a few
minutes ago. Can you pilot a shuttle?"
Jason laughed "Can I Pilot a shuttle!!" He smiled "I could fly rings
around
90% of Starfleets fighter jocks given half the chance"
"I thought you were a pilot from days gone by, at least that's how
things
worked out after the X'Chi mission. Why in the world didn't you work
your
way into the cockpit here and now?"
"Yeah well, I would have but these shuttles and fighters they use these
days
just don't have the right feel to them" He laughed "Give me a Harrier or
Tornado any day of the week, While the old earth tech can't out gun a
starfleet fighter it could sure as hell out maneuver one" Jason stated
"That's if i was piloting it" He grinned
"Well, we need to figure out what's going on around us and the shuttles
are
our next avenue of trial and error. No major maneuvering needed just get
use
clear of the ships shields and we'll see what we can do." Hawk finished.
The two made there way to the shuttlebay and into one of the warhammers.
They had enhanced navigational and tactical sensors so the two took
there gear onboard and contacted Rick for the ok to take her out. Five
minutes later Jason piloted them out of the bay and took a course that
left them 4 thousand KM of the hotel/starbase.
Jason tapped the console and steadied the warhammer runabout "Ok we are
in
position" He announced "What's next?"
"Well we see what's going on sensor wise." He replied as the two began
to
tap away at their consoles. They both gave looks of excitement at first
as
sensors started to display tactical info of the station. At first things
looked normal, the station had dozens of phaser strips, couple dozen
torpedo
launchers, nothing out of the ordinary. They however noticed problems
just
after that, sensors basically just went blank and the ship went "dead in
the
water"
A booming voice then was piped into the small craft and asked if the two
needed assistance. Of course the conversation showed Hawk and Jason that
the
Hotel was open for there enjoyment and that they could get there shuttle
repaired while they enjoyed themselves. This somewhat pissed Hawk off,
and
Jason had a similar look.
Jason looked at Hawk "Isn't that the same message they sent the
chimera?" He
tapped the channel control and opened a channel to the station "This is
Lt
Stephens of the Uss Chimera thank you for your offer we shall board
shortly"
He closed the channel and accessed the shuttles power matrix "Man this
is
Pants according to the computer everything is working but i'm not
getting
any power other then limited thrusters"
At that moment Hawk decided he was going to seek Ricks advice on how to
proceed.
+taps+ "Versey to Lt Rodgers"
+taps+ "Rodgers here. What's up, Hawk?"
+taps+ "Well sir, we are dead in the water roughly four thousand Km from
the +taps+ station. We started to get basic tactical scans of her and
then it all went black. Nothing seems to be wrong with the
shuttle, but she isn't working non-the less."
+taps+ "That doesn't make a damn bit of sense," Rick said. "But then
+taps+ again ..."
Rick thought for a moment, running a few ideas through his head. He had
been
receiving readings that his engines should be running at normal. In
fact,
they should be a peak efficiency. There was certainly a link between the
sensors and engines, he was now sure of that. He was also becoming sure
that
the problem wasn't with the engines or the sensors. But the million bars
of
gold pressed latinum question was, what?
+tap+ "Perhaps the problem isn't with the ship," Rick continued. "Get
+tap+ back to the Chimera so we can go over a couple of things."
+tap+ "Yes sir" Hawk finished.
Hawk turned to Jason and simply stated, "Now all we need to do is get
out and push." After a brief laugh the two noted they were started to
dematerialize. The transport signal wasn't the Chimera's however. The
normal blue/white federation color wasn't there, instead they noted it
was green before they completely disappeared....
