====== Bridge, USS Chimera ====== "Oh, and Lieutenant," said Guzman over his shoulder, with a hint of steel in his voice. Andy stopped dead in his tracks. "Aye, sir?" "It wouldn't hurt if you continued to arrive to your shift early, as you did this morning, as opposed to the reverse," said the commander, still studying the PADD Andy had given him. Andy coughed, embarrassed and relived. "Aye, sir." As Andy left the bridge Shane grinned slightly. He didnt enjoy playing the "Boss" but this time it was the little theatre worth. Andersen was quite a puzzle to him. The Ops officer served on board the Chimera for quite a long time by now and Shane still couldnt get the right feeling about the guy. It was not that Andy was inexperienced or something ... it was more in the way Andy fullfilled his duties while on the bridge. Again ... Shane could never say that Andy did something wrong or in a bad way ... it was more ... that Andy was not initiative. Giving him an order meaned that the work will be done in right time with over average results, but leaving him space free for initiative or showing eagerness ... the results were too often miserable. On the other hand ... Andy was quite reliable and Shane was used to place him in charge of the bridge when Rangi was not there, even if there were maye more experienced officers present. {Anyway} Shane thought {a vacantion will do him good and maybe ... maybe he will arrive early to his shift more often then once in a month. Some female company might do wonders, but} Shane thought back at the little misunderstanding between Andy and Samantha at the Xmass party {maybe not, lets hope there are nice girls down there at the hotel}. Thinking at the hotel Shane was glad that he could leave the ship in a while too. He knew that Rangi is already in the hotel. There was always terrible little time the two of them could spend together and the Living Dreams Hotel looked to be just ideal. If there were sme concerns in Shane's mind about the origin of the hotel or the fact that it just appeared out of nowhere when the Chimera experienced warp problems ... he ignored them. He looked forward to spend a few lovely days with his beloved ... and strangely ... there was very little that troubled him at the moment. One of the few things was the recent request from WO Ra'nar about relieving him from the duties of the Chief medical officer. Ra'nar kept his reasons private, but stated that in the current situation he could not perform all the duties of Chief medical to the highest degree and asked for beeing listed as Assistant medical officer. Shane didnt want to discuss the reasons with Ra'nar ... it was his decission and Shane respected that. It was far better when he asked for beeging removed from the CMO position then to perform his duties badly and maybe even threathen crew's health. After a brief conversation Shane agreed with Ra'nar and assigned him as AMO, effective immediately. This matter was settled but out of the blue ... the Chimera was a CMO short. Well ... it was R&R time at the moment ... but something in Shane's mind protested to keep the ship without THE Doctor even for a few days. Shane downloaded the files of the medical personel on the Chimera and started to review them. He knew that there were a dozen of capable doctors on board, but beeing a CMO meaned far more then beeing a fine doctor. With a slight grin Shane thought that the new CMO will be under a sharp scope of Rangi ... who (as ex-CMO) was still strongly interested in the daily work of the Chimera's sickbay. Taking the PADD with crew bios, Shane retreated to his ready room leaving the CONN in hands of Ens. Dexter who was Sam's gamma shift leader. Once in the ready room Shane noticed a little green light flashing on his console. Coming closer to the console Shane recoginzed an announcement coming in. Shane tapped the console and for a brief moment the all-too-known SSF COMM logo appeared on the screen. The announcement was text only but to be honest it stunned him for a moment. Shane had to read the text twice before believing his own eyes. SSF COMM presented him with the Galaxy Cluster medal. The announcement was signed with the new SSF Commanding officer Major General Sidney Shepard who took over after Colonel Cole was reaasigned by SF Command. There were two things that suprised him. First the award itself ... the Galaxy Cluster was an high level award and Shane knew that it must have been approved by the SF Commander himself ... or one of his deputies. The other point was that it came on behalf of SSF Command. Shane was a realist ... and he knew that the relations between Chimera Command and the highest levels of SSF Command werent at the best terms. Anyway ... it was still a GREAT honor to be presented with such an award and Shane felt very happy about it. Still in the good mood he tapped his Commbadge: +TAPS+ Guzman to Ensign Nejor + +TAPS+ Nejor here Commander + +TAPS+ Would you mind joining me in my ready room please? + Shane asked +TAPS+ Not at all sir, on my way + came the reply Shane was glad to catch Nejor before the Bajoran ex-marine will leave the ship for R&R and thought that besides Nejor there was just one more thing to take care of before he could join the most of the crew ... enjoying R&R. ====== End of log ====== Cmdr.
