-= Holosuite =-
The Bajoran medical officer was quite enjoying his time. After leaving
the ship with the good news, he was most welcomed to the hotel and had asked to be left alone. This was his second day.
The first night had been very very extenuating, he had barely slept.
In the morning he strolled around and had found a few holosuites and strangely enough there was a relaxation program, unlike any he had ever seen, but had imagined.
He did not know how long he was there but he remained unmoving, half asleep in weightlessness falling with a background of stellar images showing the wonders of the universe as he relaxed every bone in his body.
He thought he deserved it and was annoyed when a request from an intruder pulled him away from his dreamy state.
"Who is it?" he asked, not caring about protocols or whatever, just wanting to get it over with. He hoped it was not some hotel employees delivering a message that he was to leave the suite.
"Okrin?..may I come in?"
Rangi walked a few steps forward and stopped, seeing the look of displeasure cross his face.
"If you'd rather, we can meet another time." She looked at him hopefully, waiting for a reply.
Okrin recognized the voice.
"Oh, it's you Rangi, come in."
His frown relaxed immediately. "I thought it was hotel employees disturbing my 'soul searching'".
He 'waved' to make his body turn towards the newcomer. "Another
step and you'll be weightless, quite relaxing if you ask me."
"I'll wait here if its ok with you" she replied with a short laugh standing on the grey marble like edge of the zone, inches from the blackness in which Okrin floate.
" Z aba said I might find you here.I wondered how you were.I havent seen you for two or three days."
"Yeah, I know. Been busy. I'm still getting used to being a medical Officer as opposed to a Special Forces Operator and I'm still feeling the side-effects of the radiation treatment, so I tended to isolate myself, not feeling too sociable. You're the first one of the crew I even spoke to since arriving to this stellar paradise." he said, reliving in his mind’s eye the previous night with the two bombshells he had the pleasure to meet.
"You are?" she asked quietly, thinking that the treatments side effects were lasting longer than she had wanted.
"Could you spare me five minutes? It won’t take longer. Shane has gone swimming and I said I'd meet him there. "
"I would spare you the entire day, Rangi, you know that." he said, meaning their friendship from back on Aurora was still strong even if her position was of authority over him now that she was XO.
She smiled to him.
"Well ..firstly , congratulations on the promotion...but I wanted to talk to you about sickbay. You're aware ofcourse that Ra'nar has
personal reasons for asking to step down from CMO. It's often alot to cope with and whoever has the job needs to be on top of things...no need to tell you that of course."
She shifted her weight from foot to foot.
"Commander Guzman suggested you might be the right choice...and I agreed."
"Indeed, As I was leaving the ship, he sent me on a search for him,
culminating in sickbay's CMO office."
His body started to spin slowly.
"Computer, restore the gravity, gradually, and I mean it."
He slowly dropped to the floor and managed a prefect landing on his feet.
"Thanks for the vote of confidence on that. It's fast but I guess it's
something that needed to be filled as soon as possible."
Rangi nodded, stepping forward now towards him. "I wanted to ask you two things...firstly..if you feel you arent up to this yet.." she waved her hands vaguely"..the CMO position..if you dont feel well enough in yourself please say so. Secondly...now we have a new 2XO..Commander Palmer..I was hoping that I might spend a little more time IN sickbay...without stepping on your toes."
"I'm glad you're paying attention to me so much, Rangi. But if I found
myself unable to fill the position I would have said so when I was told of the promotion."
He smiled and walked a few steps towards her.
"You are XO, now. You can be where you want on the ship. I would
appreciate the company, specially that you know the entire Sickbay staff, while I just a few, and you do have more experience in the medical field than me, I always welcome a helping hand. Make sure you don't neglect your duties though." He moved towards the exit. "I'm done here and I feel hungry, you up for some food?"
"Well..I said I would meet Shane." she replied. "Perhaps we could eat in the pool area?" she added thoughfully. " He mentioned fifty lengths" She smiled at him.
"Actually I think I'll leave you two alone. When I asked I had forgotten that the CO would probably want some time with his lady." He chuckled. "Tell you what, when you two had time to catch up, or what ever look me up, we could organize something."
She looked at him. "That would be good Okrin..really"
Her tone was sincere for she meant it truly. The friendship with Okrin had not altered despite time and distance.
"I'm sorry to disturb your relaxtion..please..try to go back to it. I'll head off to the pool...he might even have finished. He swims like somekind of a powerboat...no chance to keep up with him." she added partly to herself.
"Ever tried to relax on an empty stomach? I never could." He nodded. "I'll see you around Rangi, we still have a few days on this relaxation, I may just want to go back to work when all this is over.
She laughed. "Work seems a long way off at the moment." she said turning to the exit. "Lets make an arrangement though..I'll tell Shane...we could have a meal or something?...make it a celebration?"
"OK, a meal sounds good. Let's have a different setting than the usual
dining room stuff." he suggested. "Surprise me." he quickly added so the responsibility of the idea would not backfire on him.
Rangi paused, a word forming on her lips which broadened into a smile
" I'll ask Shane!" she said with a mischievious grin." Its what COs are for!"
"Good idea." Okrin agreed. "I'll see you both laters then." He smiled
already thinking up what to do next. "I have to spend my time wisely." he chuckled.
