===Station shuttle bay==
It had been over an hour since Keylor, Mercedes and the researcher had
returned to the shuttle bay. Keylor had left Mercedes and the researcher in
the shuttle. Peter, the researcher, seemed to be still under the effects of
the medication that had been given to him. Keylor felt it best that Mercedes
watch over peter for a while until she was sure he would not be a danger to
himself, or the shuttle.
Keylor had just finished checking out the shuttle in more detail than his
previous inspection. There was not much he could do but check for visible
problems, he did not want to chance powering up the shuttle and drawing any
aliens to their current location. He figured that if the aliens had been
here, They would have either done something, or found the lifeless shuttle.
And though Keylor was not an engineer, he was pretty confident he could spot
something that looked out of place.
Satisfied that the shuttle was worthy of a flight, Keylor turned his
attention to the shuttle bay doors. Unlike a starship, this shuttle bay was
small in comparison. It was obviously not made for much traffic nor holding
more than a shuttle at one time. This meant the doors to space were smaller
by comparison. Though this usually meant nothing to a standard shuttle
flight, their situation was nothing more than ordinary.
Not long after Keylor and the away team had beamed over to the station, the
power fluctuations on the station, in the station were evident. As the time
passed, it seemed to get worse. This made Keylor wonder if they would have
the power to open the shuttle bay doors, let alone have power for the force
field that prevent decompression.
Keylor made his way over to the control panel next to the shuttle bay doors.
He started by trying to pull up a status of the doors operation. Since he
had been on the base, he never had a problem opening a door. Apparently with
all the power fluctuations, there always seemed to be enough power for that.
He hoped the shuttle bay doors would be the same.
After several minutes of struggling, trying to recall his basic training in
computer systems, he determined the doors would open. Though he was nt sure
if they would be able to open them remotely form the shuttle. But that was
only half the problem. During his inspection he stumbled across the status
of the force field.
He had remembers that standard operations of doors like these, the force
field, would be left in operation incase of a malfunction of any kind. But
during his inspection, he noticed that the force field was inoperable.
Keylor attempted to re-activate the field but with no success. Every time he
tried to get the field to initialize, it appeared to fail. HE was not sure
if it was the power fluctuations within the station, or the interference
that they had encountered with most of their equipment since they had
arrived, either way, it might make launching the shuttle difficult.
On one hand, if they could open the doors form the shuttle, then they would
be in a rapid decompression senario. In that case the shuttle could slide
across the deck and slam in to one of the walls. On the other hand, they
would not be able to open the doors form the shuttle. That would mean they
would have to override the controls manually. This meant that some one would
have to open the doors without the safety of the shuttles hull and risk
being swept in to space. And even if they did not get swept in to space,
that person would most likely not be able to be beamed in to the shuttle,
because of the interference of the sub space portal. It was a dilemma he
needed to be prepared for.
Having checked the doors, Keylor went scrounging. He figured he needed to be
prepared for the worse, and since no one had showed up in the shuttle bay
yet, he had time to kill. He stood at the front of the shuttle bay and
looked around. {Hrm... now this is a federation built station, so the odds
that eva suites were equipted are likely.} He looked over to a section of
the shuttle bay to the right. {Now if this were a starship, there would be a
storage locker over there buy the main control station.} He saw nothing. He
then scanned the rest of the bay, but still had no intelligent guess to
where he might find an eva suit.
Keylor walked around to the side of the shuttle where the open door to the
rear compartment was. He poked his head inside and locked them in on
Mercedes. "How is it going Ensign?" he asked. Mercedes looked up. "Ok sir.
His body seems to be absorbing the medication well and he seems to be
regaining some of his control."
Keylor nodded, "Good." He pointed over his shoulder. "I am going to take a
look around just outside. See if there is any thing we can use. If you need
me just give a shout." He said with a smile trying to relax their tense
situation. Mercedes nodded back in understanding.
Keylor then walked out of the shuttle bay and looked up and down the
hallway. He was looking for a logical place to find eva suits, just in case
they needed one. {Now if I were an eva suite on a research station, where
would I be?} He thought to himself. Slowly Keylor started to walk down the
corridor, poking his head in to any door he could find.
