Athena sat at her desk waiting for 1Lt. Richards to show up for his Official
Evaluation. Her eyes burned from lack of sleep thanks to the throbbing in
her hand that kept her awake most of the night. As her hand showed little
to no bruising, Athena assumed that her hand wasn't broken. She looked at
her red and slightly swollen hand and wondered if some ice would help. She
looked at the replicator on the wall next to her desk.
Giving a shrug, she walked over to the machine and asked for a bowl of ice.
Much to her surprise a perfectly formed bowl arrived. However, it was empty
and then the ice cubes came as if they were being spit from the machine.
She covered her face with her hands. "Damn it!" She had blocked a cube
with her bad hand and the instant shot of pain infuriated her. As the last
cube came flying replicator, she said, "I'm glad I didn't ask for water."
At the spoken sound of the word water however the replicator filled the
request and Athena was hit with a fountain like spray of water. Athena
wiped the water from her face and went in search of the engineer who had
been working in the corridors earlier that morning. Athena quickly found
the engineer, "Ensign, I've had a bit of a problem maybe you can fix it."
Ensign Murphy nodded and followed Athena back to her office carrying his
tool with him.
A quick survey of the room only gave him a minimal idea of what had
happened. There was a wet spot on the floor and the counselor's shirt was
wet as well. The thing that puzzled Ethan most was the appearance of ice
all over the floor by the desk. It looked as though a small hail storm had
gone through. The ease with witch Athena could pass him tools without
asking set his nerves on alert but the way she could silently walk up on
people made his skin crawl just a bit. Trying to break the tension he said,
"An environmental problem?"
Sensing his unease, she smiled, "No, replicator and if you don't care I
think I'll get into something dryer while you tweak that." The ensign was
the only one who had been working on this deck since she arrived and really
as everything seemed to be about done he was doing rather well.
She walked through the adjoining door and into her quarters. She stripped
off her tunic and thought about how hard the ship had been on her uniforms
the last couple of days. The replicator incident with the CO, the turbolift
and now this replicator. A fleeting thought fled through her mind.
{Environmental.} She walked into the bedroom and was looking through her
drawers for a cooler top as everything seemed to be warmer. Settling on a
white tank top, Athena put it on and walked back to her office.
Once in her office Athena found a glass of ice water and a bowl of ice on
her desk, but no ensign. She made a note about the ensign on her padd and
sat down at her desk. She placed her hand in the bowl of ice and picked up
the glass of water. She gave it a smell and then took a small sip of the
icy beverage. She took a large enjoyable swallow and relaxed a bit as she
went back to wait for her next appointment, Rob.
