<<OOC: Ok everyone here it is. I hope it is good enough to get us all started. Log your self on to the base and on to the ship. Right now it is just me and the NPC Helm officer Michael York. Once on we will all be helping out to get the final repairs don’t. Also all departments need to stuck up, all we are being given is a ::coughs:: functionally ship. Department head perform your diagnostics and stock supplies. Lets get this ship ready to hit the road!>> ===SB Bragg, Gantry 5=== Keylor stood at the gantry where the USS Chimera was moored. He looked down the tube like walkway that connected the bas to the ship. He was a little excited. When he joined Starfleet, and the marines, he wanted to travel among the stars. But he quickly found out that in the marines you pretty much sit on them , not travel around them, or at least a planet near one. But by some strange sequence of events his wish had been granted, sort of. No longer was he confined to piggy backing on some ship, or to the cold metal walls of a base. No longer would he have to look up at night through the atmosphere of a planet and wonder what a star looks like, he would not be able to get a closer look, in his ship. But It really was not his ship, not like when he and his father used to run equipment and supplies to various bajoran colonies. And this was not a true exploration vessel, there would be not in-depth scientific missions or charting unknown territories for this ship, it was a special ship, one that combined his love of space flight with his abilities as a leader of a combat group. He started to walk down the gantry and in to the ship. As he passed the windows that looked out upon the hull of the ship he scanned the hull. This was his first command of a ship. He had heard in stories from various Starfleet officers that you never forget the first ship you command. Keylor took that to heart and wanted to memorize every bump and blemish of his new home. Soon he stepped off the gantry and on to the deck of the ship. HE looked around and saw several engineering technicians busy at work. HE scanned the passageways of the deck and realized he was on deck 8, port side aft He had memorized the deck layout so he would be able to navigate the ship quickly, not looking like some lost child to his crew. Keylor decided to turn left and head to a turbo lift that should have been approximately 15 meters away. From there he would head to the bridge and check things out. Soon he found himself waiting for the lift. Down the hall came a rather spry lieutenant dressed in red. He was humming a tune and moving rather fast. He was headed to the base to catch some lunch when he passed Keylor. At first he did not realize who Keylor was, but then something in his mind clicked and he quickly stopped and turned around.. “Colonel Bretam?” he asked quizzically as he turned to face him. Kelyor looked over at the person, HE saw the bright red of a command uniform and the shinny pips of a lieutenants ranks. “Yes lieutenant, How can I help you?” The lieutenant held out a hand. “Lieutenant Michael York, your helm officer.” He smiled trying to make a good first impression. Keylor turned to Face Michael. “Ah yes, I have read your file. Glad to see you have made it here.” Keylor said with a jovial voice. Michael extended a hand , “Glad to be here Sir, would not miss this for the world, being my first Chief Helm assignment and all.” He smiled as the two shook hands. “Aye,” Replied Keylor. “Well I am sure you will do great job, your record and your previous commanders have recommended you highly.” Michael slowly retracted his hand. He liked to think he was a modest person. He slightly blushed. “Why thank you sir, I do what I can.” Keylor nodded and looked back to the turbo lift. “Well If this turbo life ever show up, how about we go take a look at the bridge?” Michael chuckled, “Well that might take a while sir.” He smiled. “Why?” Keylor asked. “Well sir all for the turbo lifts on the port side do not function, engineering teams are working on it now..” He said plainly. “Well then lets find another lift.” Keylor said adjusting his duffle over his shoulder. “Ok sir, but we will have to climb up through the Jeffries tube to deck 6 to get one.” Michael waved his hand and started to walk down the corridor. Keylor followed timidly. “Why lieutenant, I thought this ship was supposed to be ready?” Michael turned and walked backwards. “Well sir there was a slight problem last week. The were upgrading the bio-neural network and seemed on of the gel packs was infected with some sort of virus. So they have been replacing them slowly by subsystems. So far we have partial turbo lifts, life support and artificial gravity, most database and diagnostics routines from the core and that is about it. If it was not for the base power, we would not even have the lights.” Michael turned back around and continued to walk to w Jeffries tube. Keylor was a bit dismayed. He had been told that the ship, mechanically, would be ready when he arrived at the station. All he would have to do is get the crew aboard and supply her for her first voyage after a refit. Now he was hearing the ship was little more than a floating hotel. He followed along behind Michael, “So any word as to when they will be done?” Michael stopped at a Jeffries tube that had its hatch already open. Michael bent down and crawled inside. Hearing the question, he poked his head out to reply to Keylor. “They are saying in a few days. After that they will begin diagnostics of the ships systems.” Keylor watched as Michael disappeared in to the tube. He dropped his duffle and crawled in after him, dragging the duffle behind him. The trip two decks up was uneventful. The two managed the small and cramped tubes with relative ease. Soon they were eon deck 6 and on they’re way to the bridge. The remaining distance to the bridge was a quiet one. Keylor was anxious to get the Chimera underway and he milled about in his head how to expedite the final repairs, tests a and supplying of the ship. He had memorized most of the crew roster, well that which was given to him a week prior to arriving on SB Bragg. He had been familiar with several of the names. It appeared that SSF had taken a long interest in many of the people that he had worked with not so long ago back in epsilon fleet. The one thing that surprised him was 1LT Mark Redding, or rather LT Redding. Apparently after Keylor had left his last assignment, Mark had been accepted to Starfleet’s engineering academy. Keylor recalled looking over the academy reports, seeing favorable remarks from Marks instructors. Though this would be Marks first Chie! f engineering position, Keylor knew the Mark would give his best, regardless of how much experience he had in engineering. And as soon as he reported to the ship, Keylor planned to test all of that knowledge he had learned by getting the ships engineering team working on the Chimera to hasten the ships repairs. He also thought about another familiar face, Dr Summers. The SSF bio he read indicated that SSF was impressed on the mission to Drakanus, the last mission Keylor had taken his marine unit on before leaving. The report remarked about how she managed all of the resources, and worked tirelessly to find the cure to the illness on drakanus. This impressed the SSF command, Keylor would not disagree having witnessed first hand. Then there was his new XO, Shane Guzman. He knew Shane, not closely, but close enough to know he was a good man. Primarily associating with Shane, because of his girlfriend, Rangi Summers, he knew only Shane’s devotion to her. Keylor hoped that devotion would apply to the shi as well as his love. In fact there were many names he was familiar with, his old Marine company CO Major Nejor Okrin would be joining them as the ODA CO, Athena Wellington would be there to act as ships counselor, and even Storok, Aurora’s old CSEC would be the ships new CTAC. Just seeing these names meant a lot to him. He knew them fairly well and knew they would work well together. It gave them some cohesion, and with the extra work to be done just to get them off the base, they will need every bit of friendly cooperation. As the two stepped off of the turbo lift, Keylor heard mike speak. “Here we are Colonel, The main bridge.” Michael waved his hand about like some cheesy game show assistant from the 20th century. Keylor looked about, it was not a pleasant site. “Lieutenant? Are the repair teams done in here?” he asked noticing al of the loose wires hanging about and open access panels. “Yes sir. They say they are. They said they would be back to closed everything up.” He replied plainly. Keylor nodded. “Well we can finish this up for them.” He looked at the helm officer. “We have a lot of work to do. Do you think you can scrounge up a couple of tricorders so we can clean up in here.?” Michael nodded, “Aye sir. I was about to grab some chow, you mind if we start after a bit to eat?” Keylor shook his head. “No that will be fine.” Michael started to walk back to the turbo lift, “Oh can I get you anything?” he asked of Keylor. “Keylor grinned, “The rest of my crew?” Michael chuckled first and Keylor followed. “Well sir if I see any of them I will make sure to point them in the right direction.” Keylor nodded. “That would be fine. Go grab some food and then meet me back here, I will go check out my quarters.” Michael nodded and disappeared in to the turbo lift. Keylor looked around the bridge. This had not been the start he hoped for. IT was not hopeless, but not the best in appearance initially. {Well everyone will have to rough it for a while. But if we get everyone involved we should be able to get underway soon.} He thought to him self. Keylor juggled his duffle over his should and then turned to the captains ready room. he figured he could cut through there and get to the officer quarters deck and not risk taking a turbo lift. In the state of repair the shi was in, there was no telling if the turbo lift would stop and leave him stranded between decks. He chuckled at the thought and shrugged it off. He was here, on HIS ship, no mater what it looked like, and he was going to do what he loved, fly through space. Quickly he walked over to the ready room, anxious to see what it and his quarters looked like. ===End Log=== LtCol Bretam Keylor Captain USS Chimera
