===Bridge- USS Chimera=== Keylor was lying on his back under a science station. He was trying his best to 'assist' in getting the chimera on its way. He had spent the remainder of the previous day with Lt York getting the navigation and operations consoles connected and running. It had turned out to be a more tasking job than Keylor had ever imagined. When traveling with his father, they seemed to just 'patch' what was wrong until they could afford a qualified person to 'fix' it. But now he had to follow some method to the Starfleet madness of engineering. He might be the commander of the ship, but it was his chief engineer's job to keep the ship in good working order. And he did not want to have the bases engineering crew or his chief to come screaming at him before they had even left the dock. But even with the stringent engineering specifications, Keylor bungled through it. And with his trusty pad in hand, he would complete each wire after looking at his pad about 50 times. But now it was a new day. Keylor had York working on navigational diagnostics at the helm and he decided to take a crack at a science console. Keylor laid himself down on the floor and propped his pad up so he could look inside the open access panel and his pad with out moving, too much. He toiled over the dangling mess of wires and cables, trying hard not to electrocute himself. But after only 3 hours he managed to finish up all of the connections. Feeling proud of himself he closed the access panel and stood up in front of the science station. He grinned from ear to ear at his accomplishment. It was not like the previous day where York; some one with more engineering ability than himself, had helped direct Keylor in the task. No this one was all Keylor. He tapped on the console and watched it light up. HE looked over the console and marveled in his accomplishment. Upon closer inspection he noticed that the main viewer in the console was not lit. He tapped a few time in vain, but it would not activate. Feeling he had missed a connection somewhere. Keylor opened the access panel and laid back down on the floor. After a hour of checking each and every connection he finally came across the problem. The wire, the very last wire he checked was loose. {Figures, I started checking things from the wrong direction. Next time I will go backwards.} he thought to himself. He tightened the connection and closed the panel. At first glance he thought he had done a bang-up job. But that was before he looked at the main display closely. He let out a puff of air. {Upside down?} he scowled at the console. {How can It be upside down?} his mind raced with the idea. Keylor looked at the pad with the schematics and then back at the console. {No I followed the directions properly. What can be wrong?} He leaned forward and tapped on the various control surfaces. No matter what he tried he could not seem to flip the image over. Just then the turbo lift doors opened and a few of the base technicians walked in. Not wanting to look like a complete idiot, being the captain of his own ship and not able to fix it, he tapped on the science station and shut down the terminal. As the two technicians walked passed he turned around. They greeted with the customary "Sir" and he nodded back. One of them stopped and pointed to the station. "IS everything ok with the console sir?" The technician looked a bit puzzled. Keylor nodded quickly. "Uhm, yes. I was just checking it out." He replied. The technician pulled out a pad from a tool bag he was carrying and scanned over it. "um, sir this station was scheduled to be completed today. How did you check it out." Keylor took a casual pose, "Well .. I . fixed it. All it needed were the connections completed. A simple enough task, even for a marine like me." Keylor smiled. "Well sir may be you should let me take a look at it any way, I mean we would not want you going out of the base with a faulty console." The technician started to move closer to the console. Keylor quickly cut him off. "No that is ok Crewman. I assure you it is working with in acceptable parameters." He motioned around the bridge. "But if you would be so kind, could you take a look at the captains chair? I was looking at that earlier and some thing just does not look right. I think here is some sort of short in the chair display." The technician looked at Keylor a bit strange. He then tapped on his pad and looked over the schedule. "Well if the console is to your satisfaction, then I guess I can look over the chair before going to my next task." Keylor smiled. "Good let me show you hat I mean." HE wrapped his arm around the technician and led him to the chair. Keylor began to give the electrician a show showing him exactly what he thought was the problem. While Keylor stood there watching the technician fiddle with the chair , he though about his blunder. {I need to find Mark Redding and have him look at that. he might give me some grief, but at leas I would not be the laughing stock of the base.} Soon the technician was complete in fiddling with the captain's chair. Once Keylor had given his approval on the tweak, the technician quickly moved to the next item on his list, ignoring the science console. Keylor remained on the bridge for the better part of the day, overseeing the completion of the repairs and being a general nuisance. By 17:00 hours the technicians had left and the bridge looked like it was ready for combat, well almost ready. He decided that his blunder was concealed for the moment and when out to see I he could find some thing to eat from the base. ===End log=== LtCol Bretam Keylor Commanding officer USS Chimera
