"Friends" by Jass and Mumacik =/\= Begin Log =/\= Athena walked into her office after trying to orient herself better with the ship. She noticed a pair of legs hanging out of the wall where the replicator was. The engineer's hand was searching the floor for tools again. Athena walked over and hand him the desired tool. Athena went to get the PADD that held the crew roster that she was given and began to scan the list. She walked back over to the egineer and handed him another tool. She was given a slightly amazed, "Thanks." "No problem," she replied as she continued to look at the list. Recognizing the voice of the woman who had helped him before by hand him tools without asking, he started to look out of the access panel but bumped his head as the door to the office slide open. After leaving Rangi, Shane, in a far better mood, continued with his 'tour'. Next on his way was ... Office of the head counselor. He did not loooked at the roster PADD yet and was eager so see who is the counselor on this shiney new ship. Pressing the chime button on the counselor 's office the door opened. {Weeeeh ... a wrong connected circuit} Shane thought. But as far the door was open now ... Shane only shrugged and stepped inside. Instincively he looked around himself and first noticed an engineer looking out a computer pannel to his right. Following his gaze Shane noticed a tall woman standing near. She was dreesed in a teal uniform of medical/science. Shane looked in her face and a smile appeared on his face. He know this face ... it was the pretty face of Athena Wellignton ... the nicest counselor Shane knew. "I wont ask Athena" Shane started ..."you ARE the Chief Counselor ..." he added and smiled at her. She looked up from her PADD and smiled. She put the PADD down on the desk, walked over to the engineer and hand him the next tool and went over to give Shane a hug. "I thought you'd be busy for days before i saw you. Have you seen Rangi, yet? We did some traveling together." Shane hesistated for a moment. Athena never hughed him before ... and they were never so close to each other since ... since the kiss back on Aurora almost a year ago. {But it is a year ago ... and it was just a kiss} Shane thought and hughed her too. It was nice to know that one has friends on board. "Yes, I have seen Rangi just 5 minutes ago ... she made me so proud of her" he said meaning her to be the CMO, "and well, the counselor is the next on my list 'to-do-visits' today ... so how are you?" Shane asked. "Better now that I'm not in training." She smiled, "I'd offer you a drink, but as you can see I couldn't garantee we'd get anything." Shane laughed shortly. "Yes, yes i see ... But I am sure our good man from engineering here below the console will do his best to have ALL, "Shane stressed the 'ALL',"your systems ready till tomorrow 1200." Shane had to hide a smile as the technician eagerly noded to him. Shane turned back to Athena: "You mentioned a training ... something special?" "No just being sure i'm qualified to be an asset, sir." She winked at him. Athena looked back over her shoulder at the engineer who was looking for yet another tool with his hand. She walked over and handed him the desired tool. The engineer asked, "how do you do that?" Shane laughed a bit again. "Crewman, our counselor is a Betazoid, she can read thoughts ... so she knows every sigle of your wishes" he said and beamed a smile at Athena. He turned back to Athena and said: "I am here to make sure, you have all the attantion from the engineering you need and want to ask you if I could help our Chief Counselor in any way?" Shane tried to focus on a particular thought: {Please dont call me 'sir' Athena ...} "No I think the attention of one engineer is all I could handle while I'm try to get settled in." Shane noded: "As you wish Athena. Is there anything I can help you with, any problems in geting settled?" he asked. He looked around at the 'bare' office ... "No, I'm just waiting for a box of personal belongings. I'm sure it'll be along soon. Thanks for asking. By the way I helped Rangi pack somethings for you and thats quite a portrait you have in your collection." Shane looked at her surprised: "You and Rangi packed my things from Aurora?" He beamed an another smiled at her: "How kind from you ..." Having imagined the two ladies in his 'mess' of a quarters he asked shyly: "There was no big mess there, was it?" Remembering his favourite picture he said: "Ah you mean Ricewind ... you like it"? She had a smile on her face that didn't quite reach her eyes. "Let's just say I find it interesting that it was your favorite. And what an interesting name for it as well. It was my pleasure to help Rangi; it made time go much faster." Shane noticed Athena's state of mind ... and turned to the technician that was still in the room with them. "Crewman, would you mind to have a 20 minutes break?" he asked. The technician looked surprised at Shane but noded: "Of course not sir ... thank you". After he left the room, Shane turned to Athena and asked with concern on his face ... "I see that there is something not all right ... will you tell me about it please?" She placed a hand on his shulder, "No, really its fine. It's just that preferences in art say a lot about what a person is like." She thought a second about the picture. "What treasure are you looking for?" Shane noded: "Good ... It's just ... I know you are here to help other people with their problems ... but I want that you know that even there is someone here even for the counselor ... in this case its me. You know you can come to me with everything, dont you?" He thought about his picture for a second ..., "Well, I am always looking for a person I can make happy ... and that will make me happy in return. You can have wealth, position, power ... but without having someone there for you ... its just an illusion ..." He looked inside Athena's eyes: "What about you Athena, what treasure are you looking for?" "Happiness," came the simply reply, but it sounded like a lot when she said it. "I'll let you know if I need anything even if its just a friend to talk to." She smiled at him as her gaze became a little distant with thought. Shane noded again. "Now I am speaking as Shane ... I really, really hope that you will have that treasure all your life Athena. And if I can help you with anything, I will be VERY glad." He tried to make her more cheerfull : "You know, friends are hard to get even on a black market." He smiled at her again: "You know what I think about a ship's or station's crew? I think its a sort of a family ... you know, your real family is hundreds of light years away ... but we are here, every day ..." Her eyes came back and met his and she gave him a bright smile, "Yes, I know." Shane smiled at her back: "Great ... I am now glad. I think about some joined leisure activities for the staff crew in the future ... would you be interested in?" Shane asked. "Sure... that sound like it could be fun." Shane kept smiling ... "Great. But back to business ... you think your office will be ready for duty till tomorrow 1200?" he asked. "I'm sure it will," she smiled at Shane. ===== End of log ===== LT.
