The trio of men walked with a deadly purpose towards the station's
armory.
They zoomed by other officers, expertly avoiding them, sometimes calling
glances at them as they inpolitely passed by, not speaking to anyone, or
caring
for that matter. The man in charge wanted his rifles.
"Gentlemen, poker faces." Okrin mentioned to Bennett and Richards, as
they
passed the door of the armory. The two others had cracked up seeing Nejor
head
himself to see a lowly NCO and find out about the missing rifles, like
shooting
a fly with a bazooka. They made an effort to remain serious.
They stopped, waiting at the counter, to be served by the NCO in charge.
They had not waited a second that the armory's chief came to them. "Good
morning sir" He said cheery, rarely seeing Officers come to his 'shop'.
"Good morning, Sgt. Do you have a lack of TR-116s and type IIIb phaser
rifles?" Okrin asked him right away. The man's smile faded. "No sir." He
replied, unsure of the meaning of what was being said.
"It seems you have, son." Okrin said. "I have requested my armory to be
stocked with weapons I would need. Most got there except these. Why is
that?"
Okrin said, unsmilling, staring through the sgt standing behind the computer
console.
The Sgt fumbled, starting to get nervous. He called up an inventory and
saw
that they where well stocked in the requseted weapons. "I... I don't
understand
we have plenty here, Sir."
Okrin shaked his head. "Then you're not doing your job right, Sgt. I
don't
care who did my department request but they did a mistake so you did a
mistake.
You are in more swhite than you think son, on my ship it happens that the
Bragg
CO's son-in-law." He pointed to Richards. "Is serving under me and the
Bragg's
Sgt major's best buddy." He pointed to Bennett. "Is my Sgt. I do recommend
you
fix that mistake now and no report on your incompetence will be drafted."
Okrin
did not like to lie like this but sometimes it got the job done, besides the
look on the sgt's face as he paled was priceless.
The Sgt had not waited time, as he was blasted, he recalled the equipment
request from the chimera and had gotten the necessairy rifles beamed
straight
to the ship's armory. "It is a corrected mystake, Sir, a misread, I'm sure,
nothing personal, Sir" The sgt reported, regaining some colors.
Bennett took a look at an updated inventory report from the armory staff
on
the ship, all rifles where accounted for. He nodded to Okrin, who turned
back
to the Sgt. "Good work, sgt." He smiled again. "Thank you for your time." He
said as he moved towards the door, closing the march. "Say hello to the base
CO, Brigadier Reeves for me, when you see him." Okrin told the Sgt as he was
passing the door.
"Who's Brigadier Reeves?" The sgt replied as he turned towards the door,
but
nobody was there to reply.
As the trio walked more casually this time, headed for the ship, Richards
spoke first. "Did I really had to be the Co's son-in-law?" He asked
jokingly.
"Yes, Richards, you had to be." Okrin replied seriously, before cracking
into a
smirk. "Next time I'll let you choose your role then." He said, fainting
annoyance, but being poor at it. "It took exactly a minute." Richards said.
Okrin turned to him. "For what?" He asked him. "To take care of that
problem,
it took a minute, from our entry to our exit." Richards replied, smiling.
"Well, that's it, sir." Bennett reported. "We have all the equipment we
need, all rifles, ammo, personal kit, everything the department needs.
Ninety
percent of our systems are online, should be complete within a few hours.
Every
head in the department has reported in, all ODAs are formed and will start
the
duty shifts as soon as the ship leaves dock." He read from the hand-sized
PADD
he seemed to be carrying everywhere he went. Okrin carried on too, but only
when he did not have a Sgt following him.
