=== Briefing room===
Keylor walked through the doors and looked about the room, he was the first
to arrive. He stepped up to the table and placed both hands down upon the
smooth black surface, tt was cool to the touch. He stood there for a moment,
hunched over the conference table looking down the middle of it. The room
quieted, only the low hum of the environmental controls could be heard. HE
thought about the ship and how it seemed to buck him the very moment he
stepped aboard. Sure it was an inanimate object, and he knew it had no mind,
but he felt it some how wanted to deny his passion for commanding a ship
amongst the stars.
After a minute he stood up and turned to the picturesque windows to the one
side of the room. He slowly walked over trying hard not to make much of a
sound, he wanted to enjoy the peaceful quiet he feared he would have little
of wonce the ship was underway. He stopped right in front of the closest
window and peered out is glossy finish in to the inside of the base.
HE watched as worker bees, men in suits and various pieces of equipment
floated in the near zero gravity of the drydocks. As he watched he started
to see a pattern to the first apparent chaos that flew about the protected
harbor of the base. Soon his mind fell in sync with the symphony of work
that buzzed about. In his mind he started to sing an old tune he used to
hear his dad sing when he was a you lad on Bajor. Together, the song , the
quiet hush of the conference room, and the visual ballet of work outside the
hull of the chimera started to lul Keylor in to a state of relaxation.
Keylor folded his hands in front of him and settled down in to the souls of
his feet to enjoy the moment of peace.
He had no idea how long he had stood there. As the crew entered the
conference room one by one, he would take little notice of them. Sure he
heard their conversations as they entered the room, clear and determined in
their content, but then they would fade in his mind as his symphony
continued in front of him. IT was not until a hand was laid upon his left
shoulder did he break form his meditative trance. "Sir we are ready." Came
the young voice of his XO. Keylor blinked three times, removing himself from
his meditation and back to reality. He then turned and nodded to Shane.
As Shane returned to the table, Keylor scanned the table and took mental
note of the attendees. As he counted heads, he walked over to the available
chair at the head of the table. Keylor walked up to it and stood behind it.
He was not used to being placed at the head of the table; that was a
position he usually saw some one else take. Not wanting to seem
uncomfortable he chose to stand instead, using the chair as a podium of
sorts.
Keylor smiled at the officers gathered. "Well I must say," jumping right to
the point," You all have done an admirable job considering what we all found
when we arrived on board." He paused and smiled. " Now a lot of progress has
been made and the reports to date have been encouraging. Today you all
should have pushed hard to finish stocking your departments and assisting in
any way in helping this ship make its voyage out in to the great universe we
all know exists out there." He pointed to the window where one could only
see the gray metal of the starbase's interior. "Now I want to here where
each department stands as for being ready to ship out."
Keylor looked over to the CMO sitting on the right. "Lieutenant Summers,
would you be so kind as to start and give your report." He watched Rangi
look a bit uncomfortable. SHE seemed to blush a bit. He watched her as she
stood up reluctantly and fumble wither pad. Keylor was not surprised as
most of his department heads were new to the job. But it did not concern him
took much, after time they would all settle in and perform like will oiled
machines. As Rangi glanced over to Keylor, he nodded and she began with her
report. Keylor leaned forward in to the chair and listened intently as the
reports were given.
<<OOC: insert your report here. J>>
As the last report finished Keylor stepped out from behind his chair and
walked towards the windows. "You are all doing admirable job, I am proud to
have you on board." He paused. "But I am growing tired of the inside of this
base." He smiled and glanced over at the crew who were all still seated. "I
think I have forgotten what the exterior of this base looks like." A small
chuckle passed over the small crowd. Keylor pointed out the window. "I am
eager to get this ship out of here and see what she can do." He pointed to
Major Nejor, "Major since your department seems to be prepared, I want you
to start training in holodeck 1. I know you have some new recruits that
could use the pratice." He saw Okrin nod in agreement.
Keylor then looked over at the counselor. "LT Wellington, I would like you
to continue your evaluations. After you have completed that,I would like you
to join me up on the bridge. I want to make sure you are familiar with it
since your station will be up there when we are on missions." HE saw Athena
smile a bit and nodd.
Keylor walked back to the center of the table." Dr Summers, Continue with
your crew medical checkups. Get with LTjg Simmons for any supplies you still
need, he will contact the base and arrange for your needs." Keylor then
looked over to Lt Storok. "Lieutenant. Get with engineering, "He glanced
over at Ltjg Redding, " and make sure all of our tactical systems are in tip
top shape. If you have to, inspect every auxiliary system and conduit
visually." Storok nodded slightly.
Keylor then looked at Mark Redding, "Lieutenant Redding," he paused. "I hate
to break the bad news to you but I want to make way in three days. In
addition to helping tactical get squared away, You have to make sure that
the warp core and warp drive are ready. Pull double shifts if you have to,
but get it done." Mark nodded, "Aye sir."
Kelor then surveyed the officers sitting there. "3 days people. I want to be
disconnected from the base and making way in 3 days. From what I see this is
entirely possible. Do what ever it takes but lets get it done." He paused
for a moment to let his words set in. "Any questions?" he waited for any one
to speak up.
<<OOC: Insert any questions and I will respond to them in the next log.>>
Keylor nodded, "Very well, if you need any thing, have any unforeseen
problems, contact the XO here, "He pointed to Shane sitting to his left. "
and he will help you." He pasued for one last time. "Very well, Dismissed."
Keylor stepped back and watched as the officers rose form their seats and
found their way out of the room. As they filed out, Keylor motioned to
Athena. She hesitated and then stepped out of the line marching out of the
conference room. She walked gingerly over to Keylor. "Yes sir? You want some
thing?" she asked.
Keylor nodded and watched as the remaining officers filed out of the room.
"Yes, once you have completed your evaluations, I would like you to report
to my ready room and give me a an overview of our crew." Athena nodded, "Yes
sir."
Keylor nodded, "Thank you." Her replied with a slight smile. She smiled back
and then left the room. Keylor remained standing in the room. As soon as the
doors closed the room quieted and returned to a fashion of its self before
everyone arrived. Keylor closed his eyes and tried to return to the relaxing
state he was in just before the briefing started.
After a few minutes, he had decided he had lost that euphoria of relaxation.
He opened his eyes and headed to the bridge. He had some paper work to
complete before he could begin to think about relaxing for the remainder of
the day.
