===== Main Bridge, USS Chimera =====
Shane looked around himself. Down there, at the helm console, LT. Michael
York was performing some more tests of the maneuver thrusters and looked
rather busy. It was quite fascinating to see how eager this young officer
was.
Looking more in the midle of the bridge, Shane saw Storok sitting on the
Captains seat. She was the officer on watch. Again ... Shane always admired
her enegry and her strong will to fulfill her duties to the highest
standart. It was more then sure, that she spend more time on the bridge as
any other officer. It was a very common case that when Shane came to the
bridge ... Storok was there, performing her duties.
The counselor seat was empty ... as most of the time. Athena was not the
type of an conselor who would spend hours on the bridge. She prefered to
work in her office or have 'talks' in the ships messhall. Her latest report
said that the mental staus of the crew was quite average, the crew was
focused on her work ... no special problems. Shane could imagine how
exhausted she had to be, after more thne a hundred of interviews. {Hups ...}
he thought, {I own her an interview as well ...}. Shane scratched his head
and made a mental note not to forget that appointment again.
Looking at the empty configurable panels at the back side of the bridge,
Shane noticed a teal uniformed officer, doing some scans. Wondering who it
might be, Shane imagined Rangi. She did the majority of the hundred crew
check-ups as well and was quite tired too. Sure, there were other doctors
who helped her with that task, but still it was quite a load of work for
them. The fortune seemed to be quite away from medical, at last judging from
the latest accident in medical, where were several Biogel packs virtually
cooked. Now Rangi had to find replacement for them and coordinate the
repairs of the enviromental controls with engineering.
Walking towards the Ops console behid the center seats, Shane noded to
Storok to remain sitting in the CO's chair. Shane was here only for a
minute, so there was no point with her moving behind the Tac console right
now. Ops was manned with an senior NCO, one of the few the ship had. It was
not a big secret, the majority of the crew were quite young and not much
experienced people ... with only few exceptions.
The NCO was visibly messing with something at the console. When Shane
arrived at the post the NCO noded to him. "Sir". Shane noded back: "What
going on chief?" he asked. "Ah, well, there are again some energy
fluctuation in the main energy matrix. I have to reroute power every 10
minutes, to prevent the relays from blowing up. I wonder what is the
engineering doing down there ..."
{Aye} thought Shane {Engineering was sure the most bussiest department right
now, when the majority of the crew embarked, almost all the ships systems
were malfunctioning. They were drowned with hundreds of request ... varying
from a simple 'my door isnt opening' to a 'artifical gravity system
malfunctionings'. {maybe that is the cause why i see Redding so little ...
almost to none. He is sure buried somewhere down in engineering, messing
with some freaking relays ...}
Shane noded towards the NCO and looked again around himself. He frowned.
There was something definitely wrong ... there was something missing.
Looking at the turbo lifts door ... Shane got it. {Security!} he thought.
{Aye, there are none security guys on the bridge ...} It was true, the
bridge was 'security guys free' what was quite a difference towards Aurora
where were at last always 2 security officers present on the bridge. Sure,
the Chimera was a ship ... and still docked at the station, but Shane nade a
mental note to have a talk with Nejor about that.
{Thinking about Nejor ...} Shane said to himself {I wonder if he got the
weapons he needed}. From all he heard about him , Nejor was more then a
capable officer ... but the starbase logistics was no 'easy way' as well.
{Maybe i should check it and see how he does ...} Shane decided.
Shane looked back at the Ops NCO. "Chief, please contact all senior officers
and make sure they wont forget about the senior meeting tomorrow at 0900. I
want some word of confirmation from everyone."
The chief noded: "Aye, sir" and started to tap away ...
