Athena looked at herself in the mirror and swept her hair up into a
ponytail.
She usually wore her hair down to cover the scar on her ear, but if she was
going to be doing what she figured she would today then up it had to be.
With
a final look in the mirror she was out the door and on her way to
engineering.

As Athena walked through the door of main engineering she saw many surprised
looks. An eager Cadet walked up to her and asked if he could help her. She
gave the cadet a smile and started his evaluation on the spot. The few
people
in main engineer were easy enough to get their evaluations down it was the
next dozen or so that caused her a few problems. She asked the computer for
the
closest location of an engineer not in main engineering and was sent to a
jefferies tube on deck 4. Off she went crawling through tubes until she
found her
unsuspecting man.
If she hadn't unnerved him by showing up in the tubes, it certainly unnerved
him when she began to hand him tools as she conducted her evaluation. With
her evaluation complete, she rolled out of one of the tubes and onto a deck.
Again with the computer assistance she learned the location of yet another
engineer. She found the young woman half in and half out of an access
panel.
Athena asked her the same questions that she had the other engineers and got
similar responses. The only difference being that this particular one felt
she had
to work twice as hard as everyone else.
Athena located a couple of engineers having a bite of some lunch and she
declined to join them in eating but went ahead and conducted their
evaluations
while they were at it. Given the remarks to Athena, she wondered if maybe
it was
these two that made the other engineer feel like she had to work harder.
Athena now gave the computer a list of engineer names and then went in
search of
the next closest one. She found herself in front of someone's private
quarters and rang the chime. She waited patiently and when the chime was
finally
answered it was with an angry, "Get Lost."
Athena's determination to finish her evaluations would not be thwarted by a
couple of angry words. She pushed for a bit of his time and was a bit
shocked
when the engineer opened his door not wearing a bit of clothing. Although
that was an accepted practice on her home world, she knew that this guy was
not
from there. That left her with only a couple of reasons for him to choose
to
stay that way. One to see if he could get a reaction from her or to get her
to
leave quickly. She showed no reaction and took the few minutes that was
necessary to conduct an evaluation.
Athena walked down the corridor and reviewed the progress she had made
today.
She had gotten up early, eaten a light breakfast and skipped lunch. She
had
crawled through tubes and handed tools to several engineers as she conducted
evaluations. Finally she was down to her last two engineers and then she
would have engineering finished up. She would information gathered from her
couple of meeting with the XO to fill in his evaluation and add to it when
she
could and that would leave her with the CO.
She tapped her fingers on the padd as she thought and then sought the help
of
the computer to find her next victim. She walked into the cargo bay to hear
a stream of very colorful words. "Can I help you with anything, Ensign?"
He
looked at her doubtfully but was in no position to refuse her help. She
held
what he wanted held, handed him tools before he asked for them and asked him
all her questions.
Two hours later, Athena walked away with a black smudge across her cheek and
one engineer evaluation left to do. It didn't take her long to complete her
last evaluation but it was late now. A few strands of hair had fallen into
her
face and she smiled at the work she had completed. She decided to look in
on
Rob and then she would shower and catch a very late dinner in her quarters.
