===Deck 11== Acheson began walking back toward the device. "Do you have any ideas on how to remove it?" "Well Sir I have only had a few moments inspection of it. With it residing in a state of flux it makes it very hard to state exactly what to do. I recommend contacting science for a more in-depth analysis. That is unless Cpl Johnson had success at removing it, Sir." "My you tend to be a bit long winded, don't you Mr. Morgan. But then again you are being thorough, I guess that's acceptable." Acheson stated as they rounded the corner to Cpl Johnson's location. Josh was still trying to get an angle on the device. Cpl Johnson turned around at the sound of the two men talking. to a few portable shield emitters propped up against the wall. "Well sir. Since Z left I have been examining the device. After becoming ill form our initial scans I have found out I can set up a portable shield emitter in such a way to shield my self form the effects of causing the device to materialize in to our space." Nathan nodded, "And what have you found out?" Johnson held up his tricorder, "Well sir, from the scans I have made lately, the device is definitely here to collect verteron particles. But I think also it is capturing free electrons as well. The device some how combines the electrons and the verteron particles to form a very unstable mass. Thankfully this device had not collected much before power was cut to this section." At this point Z started scanning intensely around the device, and then stated, "I wonder if those device is set to collect a certain amount of energy and then perform a second function, such as transport back." Johnson nodded. "Quite possible, though getting this device to phase in long enough to scann is difficult. If we can find a way to phase it in permanently, then not only can we study it better but we could also remove it." Nathan nodded, "Very well, you two work on analyzing this thing and getting it off the wall. Report your accomplishments as soon as you have something." Nathan then looked down the hall, "Now if you will excuse me I need to check up on the search of the ship." Johnson nodded "aye, aye sir." he snapped to attention. Z snapped too attention and waited for Acheson to depart. After he left Z was busily working an idea when they heard a rumble coming from some crew in main engineering only meters away. Josh and Z stopped for a moment thinking that maybe an alien was there and it was time to investigate closer. Instead of an alien they discovered the engineers busily trying to restore a subspace field that had collapsde for some reason. The result was a temporary metaphasic shield to prevent the core from breaching while operating. After Josh and Z noted that it was under control and they were not needed, they headed back around the corner to there task On the walk back Josh and Z noted the scans taken by Josh while the shield emitters were functioning. Both stopped and realized at the same time, saying out loud, "A metaphasic shield." Z continued, "If we flood it with something, say anti protons, while its out of flux. It will likely hold it here with use. Johnson nodded. "Well in theory. A metaphasic shield works off of subspace principals, as well as the anti protons." He held up his tricorder, "If you look at the background radiation of the latest scans when I used the shields, the background radiation looks like a metaphasic shield patter." Josh, looked like he was in deep thought and then looked back to Z. "well it is worth a try. You familiar with metaphasic shielding?" he asked. "I am an engineer, well a combat engineer, but I am familiar with most field properties that pertain to a starship." We are close enough to engineering that we could have this entire corridor set up with the field. Just beyond the next bulkhead section we can wait behind a force field as the corridor is flooded with the antiprotons" Z finishes with, "We will know if it works instantly, when the field is dropped it should stay visible." Josh nodded, "Aye, It would be nice to be able to see that thing up close." he then pointed at Z, "You take the shield emitters and get then configured and I will go liberate some antiprotons form engineering." he said with a smile. Z made his way to the end of the corridor and then took his time in setting up the emitter for the pertinent field, and particles that will be hitting it. After he was done he repeated the process at the other end of the corridor. He was set up and turned towards engineering and awaited Josh's return After a few minutes, Johnson returned with a small container and a hyper spanner. It had been 30 minutes since he left and upon his return he found Z waiting for him. HE set the container down on the floor under the alien device and tweaked the opening with the spanner. After a minute, he looked up at Z, "Are you ready? I can't control this thing so once it goes we have one shot. And we better get this right because I don't think the engineers on this ship liked me poking around their nacelles at all. " He grinned. "Well we will have to make this count then." Z grinned back as he began to initiate the metaphasic field. Within twenty seconds the device appeared for them as bright as day. Z stood beside Josh and said that 20 to 30 seconds should be enough saturation to so the job. They both watched and counted. At the end of 30 seconds the field was disabled. "Now we wait for about ten seconds to see if it worked." Much too there joy it "stayed put" in there space. Johnson Emerged form their hiding spot following along with Z. To his relief he saw the device. He chuckled "Boy engineering is going to be pissed when they have to clean up this contamination!" Johnson then looked over to Z, "I wonder if this would work on those poor souls up in sickbay?" What ever it is you want to show me, you will have to bring it to me." It said coldly. Johnson looked at Z with a grin, "Why don't you take a scan of our little experiment to the EMH and I will get this thing removed.
