SD240409.18 Acting Cheif Engineer's Duty Log - Lt Mike Blackburn
Character(s):
Date(s): 2004-09-18
"Engineering reports ready" said Mike casually across the bridge,
Galaan, who was in charge of Main Engineering had just reported that
the warp core was now running at 60% and was protected by a
surrounding forcefield. Mike knew that this assured safety during the
gaming, because even though all damage was simulated, an accidental
warp core breach would probably not be the best thing, especially as
this was early into his time as CEo and he didn't want to kill
himself, all hands on the ship and destroy the Chimera. It wouldn't be
long before the games began, but they would likely last many hours,
considering that they would probably be outmatched by their target.
Mike looked around the bridge from the Engineering Station on the
right hand side, there would still be two or three people joining them
and so Mike just sat and waited, looking through just how the Wargames
system emulated damage and fake phasers and was amazed. "What would
happen if we were attacked by a hostile vessel, with only these light
guns on?" asked Mike, half serious, half musing at the concept. "Then
you need to be very fast" replied the Marine sat in the command chair,
"1lt Acheson by the way" said the officer in the command chair,
introducing himself. Mike introduced himself, and then they settled
into silence, both just tapping at their console, checking everything.
The last shuttle had just arrived on the Chimera, bringing which ever
Medical Officer had been given the task of waiting there in case
someone fell over, two technicians to work in engineering and the
ensign who would be acting the ops officer. The view screen was
jumping to a different view of part of the Chimera's hull every
minute, at the moment it was showing from the point of view of the
main shuttle bay exit, looking out over the rear of the ship. Mike
watched this picture for a while, and then the next which showed the
underside of the Intrepid class ship, before looking back to his
console to check the report on warp coil consistency in the left
nacelle, just as he had ordered.
Time seemed to pass slowly, building up to the big fight, and Mike
kept loose track of people moving around the bridge, waiting to find
out what ship they would have to overcome.
