Acheson, which is to say Lieutenant Acheson of the present, entered the transporter room on the Chimera, with a simulation-set phaser and tricorder. “Can you beam me where they won’t find me?”
The Chief nodded and looked down. “I’ll piggyback your signal to the wrong deck, to give the illusion that you were transported 2 decks lower. It’ll take ‘em about 10 minutes to catch on, so you’ll have to move fast. If you do, they’ll only detect residual transporter energy. You understand, sir?”
Nathan nodded. “Thank you, Chief.” He winked.
He stepped onto the pad and was dematerialized.
=/\= Cargo Bay I, USS Simpson =/\=
Acheson’s molecules resorted themselves as he rematerialized. As it happened every time, every one of his molecules resorted themselves before, every carbon atom from every amino acid residue throughout his body. <<Just making fun of transporters.>>
He looked around and saw nobody, except for a large collection of cargo containers. Acheson pulled out his tricorder and scanned the adjacent deck.
As there was no one to see him, he walked down the deck toward the turbolift.
Walking toward the turbolift, he heard the sound of feet stomping the deck. He jerked about looking for a place to hide, before doing so in an adjacent cooridor.
2 security officers jogged by, calling out,: “We got ODA intruders on this deck!”
Acheson took his phaser and aimed at the 2 officers running away from him. He could help Jack Walsh with 2 shots. He fired, shooting the officer to the left, who disappeared. The other heard the shot and took cover, before firing back.
His shot struck the bulkhead near Acheson and would’ve burred into the bulkhead if the phasers had been set to full.
Acheson fired again, but missed. He allowed himself to be a target for a few seconds, then retracted back to draw the man’s fire.
I gotta take him out before he goes for backup, Acheson thought.
He aimed once last time and fired, striking the security officer in the arm. Such a wound wouldn’t have affected a real security officer substantially, but the computer wasn’t programmed to distinguish the severity of wounds. The security officer was transported away, and Acheson was able to walk away as if nothing had happened.
As he reached the turbolift, he wanted to go to the bridge, but he didn’t have the entry codes.
A passing Lieutenant Commander in a green uniform approached the lift.
Acheson tried to improvise. He stood at attention.
“Ma’am, I’m a new transfer from the Nightshade. I can’t seem to get to the bridge.”
“Oh, not a problem, Lieutenant” She smiled reassuringly and typed the correct sequence into the turbolift. “I’m heading there myself.”
He nodded and gestured for her to step in. This was no time to breach chivalry.
After she entered, he followed and she began to converse:
“So, you’re from the SSF …. Hey wait! We’re doing tactical simulations against …”
She tapped her combadge. “+TAPS+ Security to ….” +TAPS+
He panicked and drew his phaser. He fired, sending her to the time out box according to the simulated combat agreement. He’d probably hear for doing that from the Colonel, but he wanted to surprise Klinde. He holstered the weapon, not wanting to draw attention to himself.
The lift arrived at the bridge, which was a galaxy-class style bridge, with Tactical in the rear and the conn and ops in the front.
He overlooked each chair and didn’t see Klinde.
Acheson drew his phaser. There were three crewmembers on the bridge. He aimed and fired, striking the tactical officer. The Ops and Helm Officers responded, returning fire at Acheson.
Acheson dove behind tactical and returned fire, shooting the 2 in short order. Nathan wasn’t that good of a shot, but SSF training beat Engineering training anytime in weapons handling and tactics.
Suddenly, Klinde emerged from the ready room, with a phaser drawn. He aimed at Acheson, who reciprocated and aimed his phaser at Klinde.
Klinde scoffed: “You know you aren’t getting out of here alive.” He smiled, winking in a friendly gesture.
“If I go, I intend to take you with me.” Acheson replied, smiling himself. The situation was rather amusing, after all.
“Drop your phaser and I won’t shoot.” Klinde promised.
“How ‘bout you drop YOUR phaser and I won’t shoot.” Nate retorted skeptically.
“Come on. You don’t trust me. We were in the Academy together.”
”Isn’t it obvious?”
Klinde slowly started lowering his weapon and stopped. “Let’s lower them together.”
Acheson nodded and began to lower his own weapon. After his weapon was pointing parallel to his leg, he decided that it was over. He holsted the weapon and Klinde did the same.
“Let’s just talk.”
Acheson concurred. “I agree.”
He took the XO seat on the bridge and Klinde took the CO seat. They replicated some drinks and enjoyed a conversation.
