=== Starbase promenade ===
Keylor stood up from the table where he had been enjoying a rather unique
dish. It apparently was a terrans version of one of the local races dishes.
It reminded Keylor more of a rather spicy hasperat. Keylor picked up Athena’
s platter and headed down the promenade. He figured he would head back to
the ship, deliver the still intact platter and start reviewing the ship logs
to se how his crew had faired during 1lt Achesons war games.
Keylor was not in a hurry and walked rather slowly as he gazed in to the few
shops and ‘sidewalk’ vendors that dotted the small but spacious promenade.
Apparently with the introduction of the star base in this sector, the base
had become more of a floating market for the local warp capable races than
an ambassadorial platform. But regardless how the base was being used, it
was still promoting good relations for Star Fleet.
Keylor had stopped to look at a flower merchants items. He was amazed at the
sheer variety of specimens the merchant had on display. In the mix of cut
and still potted flora, Keylor recognized a few familiar items. He was not
surprised to see such items as terran roses among other more notable
specimens from the closer member systems of Starfleet.
As Keylor slowly walked away, still gazing upon the flowers, he raised his
gaze up just in time to see a man walking straight in his direction. Keylor,
not wanting to be involved in another collision that might destroy Athena’s
creation, Quickly stepped back as he watched the man walk straight in to the
flower shop.
Keylor was almost frozen as he looked at the man’s face; it was disturbingly
familiar. Keylor stared at the man who once had jumped him and nearly caused
Keylor great bodily harm. Keylor muttered to himself “Cameron Sikes?”
Keylor looked the man over.
The man seemed a shell of the one that Keylor had come to know abruptly.
Thought the face and hair were definitely of the man he once had to fight,
he was apparently a former shell of himself. Cameron was gaunt and appeared
to be in ill health. Keylor then looked at his cloths, {I wonder if
Starfleet had kicked him out after that encounter on Aurora?} he thought
observing the man dressed in some what tattered and dirty cloths.
Keylor quickly walked away form the flower shop and darted around a corner.
He chose not to confront the man he once had to beat to near death and
continued his way to the shuttle bays. It was a long walk, and Keylor had
time to think about the brief encounter with Cameron back on SB aurora.
The encounter he and Cameron Sikes had could have been grounds for
court-martial. Cameron had broken in to the Bajoran temple Keylor was
helping to prepare on the old Star base. Breaking and entry was ground
enough for Cameron to be hauled off to jail, but the attack on Keylor that
followed was grounds for being vaporized. Cameron was a man possessed, full
of anger. In the end Keylor and another officer had finally subdued Cameron,
only after Keylor receiving a few cracked ribs and several bruises on his
head. Keylor later found out that Cameron had suffered trauma, causing him
to hallucinate. This trauma had been kept hidden from the doctors until it
manifested itself in to the rage that Keylor experienced. After that event
Keylor had not really kept track of Cameron. Though Cameron spent several
months on the old star base, Keylor really was not in a position to hear
much about the disposition of the starship officer.
As Keylor turned another corner he caught a glimpse of his reflection in a
control panel. He stopped for a minute and looked,{ Boy that event seemed
like ages ago.} he thought as he looked at the gray hair starting to form in
his hair. With a shrug, he turned and continued his way to the shuttle bays.
