The Arborteum was a large structure, supported by tritanium girders that hung on the roof of the structure. A bright synthetic light shined from the center of the room, emmiting the proper frequencies for the chlorophyll to engage in photosynthesis.
The room itself have an aura of nature about it, as if it were the only habitant truely proper for the Humanoid to reside in.
Acheson entered this botanical paradise aside a young woman who he had previously met a few minutes earler. Lieutenant Pochinski, the Assistant Engineering Officer. She clearly had a keen intellect and a figure that dazzled many of the men who passed her.
He stepped aside for a moment to allow her the pleasure of entering the room. "Lovely, isn't it?" He asked.
"Quite."
She quickly approached a particular flower, that resembled something of a Terran rose, with a bright green stem and dark red leaf on the top.
She looked fondly at the flower and Acheson stood beside her, trying to pretend interest while his eyes wandered.
"What made you pick Engineering?" he asked, hoping to change the topic from botany, which had been one of those classes at the Academy which had countered his late nighters, to put it ever so bluntly.
"Well, when I was 12, I played with a shuttlecraft's power relay system and shorted out a dozen EPS Conduits. I was made to fix them and found that I enjoyed doing that. Why did you join Tactical? Something about shooting things?"
Acheson smiled: "Well, my training is in ODA, but a post opened up on my ship and I went for it. I figured that bridge experience would translate well when I try to take an Executive Officer position someday."
She nodded, as they continued walking. "Where are you from, anyway?" She asked. "The USS Metternich, in the Sickbay. My parents met during a Dominion offensive during the destruction of the USS Atlants."
"Awwww." She sighed, sympathetically.
He smiled. "It was before I was born, though."
"That's good. I was born on Earth, the European Continent." She smiled, remembering the planet nostalgically.
Her eyes shifted hesitantly. "Have you had dinner?"
Acheson shook his head: "Nah, I just got off duty." He wondered where she was going with this.
"How bout we go to my quarters and have something."
He nodded. "Sure".
They walked, together, to a turblift and went to her quarters.
