Ensign
Mercedes Carpenter
Assistant Medical Officer
USS Chimera NCC 96899
= Sickbay
“At least the war games are over,” Mercedes said, climbing down from the
counter she was standing on. With the war games over, Sickbay was once again
quiet with hardly and crew coming in. She had taken the opportunity to
finish cataloging the medical supplies and had done so ahead of schedule.
“And finally the cataloging is done!”
“Thank god for that,” Scott replied. He was finishing off his shift report
before taking some well deserved shore leave. “I’ll be happy to get off this
ship for a few days.”
“Well, don’t bet on Kinsi offering much in the way of excitement… or
anything, for that matter,” she replied with a sarcastic tone, walking over
to Rangi’s office to fill in the supply request form.
“You don’t seem too impressed with the place,” Scott commented.
Mercedes sighed, “It reminds me too much of home. The narrow-mindedness, the
stares, the gossiping… the old people.”
“I take it home doesn’t conjure up the fondest of memories for you?”
“Not really,” she said. She didn’t feel like talking about it and was glad
when Scott didn’t force the issue.
“So, what supplies do we need?”
“Not that much, surprisingly. Although we could do with more protoplasers,
seeing as they became part of the armory during the last mission. We’re
completely out of anti-hallucinogenics. According to the logs, the last
dosage was used on a Napean crewman who began to hallucinate after eating
Terran snails,” Mercedes frowned and looked at Scott. “I didn’t know snails
did that to Napeans?”
“Oh, it’s not the snails,” Scott replied with a smile. “It was the sauce the
snails was in. It contained some foreign preservative agent that didn’t
react well at all with crewman’s system.”
“I see. Well, we’re out of that. I don’t know if Kinsi would have any
supplies. Oh wait… says here there’s a batch in storage gotten from
Chimera’s previous resupply. How did I miss those?”
“Oh, I put them in the cargo bay. They were tagged wrong and are way past
their expiry date.”
“Best get them recycled, then,” Mercedes replied, making a mental note.
“All right, I’m out of here,” Scott said, placing a padd on Rangi’s desk and
walking out her office.
Mercedes stood up and walked Scott to the door. “Enjoy Kinsi,” she smiled.
“That’s funny, coming from you, but I’ll try my best,” Scott said, winking
at her and walking out. “Enjoy Sickbay!”
Mercedes laughed and went back to Rangi’s office. She wondered if Scott
liked her. Absent-mindedly, she submitted the request for new supplies, but
forgot to mark the expired batch of anti-hallucinogenics. Hanging up her
teal coat, she left for the mess hall to have some dinner.
