They say the night has 1000 eyes but the night is, naturally, only the consequence of the sun being opposite the quasi-spherical earth on the course of its rotation. The stars can be visible at that time and they come from thousands of light years away, showing light of their old positions and giving no hint as to their new ones.
Space is like an eternal night, with no atmosphere to scatter the light that is sent at all angles by all the stars in range.
The walls in the Lieutenant’s quarters did not have eyes. They were metallic, existing in a lattice structure of positively charged metal ions with a free sea of electrons floating on the surface. Such an arrangement caused a glisten, when light struck its surface, but that light was never used for any higher purpose.
However, if the walls had had eyes, we can only wonder what they might had seen.
Nathan awoke in a bed, that wasn’t his own. Beside him slept Lt Pochinski.
A call came from the intercom. +TAPS+ Commander Faulkner to Lieutenant Pockinski, why aren’t you in Engineering?
Pockinski’s eyes shot open as she sat up, covering herself.
+TAPS+ I’m on my way, sir!”
Her voice filled with panic. “Shit! I’m late!”
She rushed over to the side and began throwing on a uniform. “Computer, lights.”
The lights flickered, but remained off. “Damn, I thought I fixed that.” She turned to Acheson. “You gotta get out of here.”
Covering himself, Nathan grabbed uniforms and began to put them on. The pants fit perfectly, but he noticed, when he put on the shirt and overcoat that the feel wasn’t right. The shirt seemed a bit tight. Perhaps the Betazed Salad had begun to be stored inside him. It was peculiar, though, because that particular night had not been without strenuous physical activity.
As he walked from the room, with her behind, he gazed into the light. They walked outside her quarters and she headed toward Engineering.
Acheson felt a strange sensation at his neck … 2 objects seemed to be there when there was only one before. He felt up there … 2 pips? It seemed peculiar. He looked down. His uniform, which barely reached to his midsection, had a yellow collar to it.
“Son of a …”
She had walked away, but rushed toward him, wearing a characteristic green SSF uniform. “Get back in!”
The two rushed back into the quarters and exchanged clothes. Acheson gave up his Starfleet Engineering uniform for the proper SSF uniform and struggled to button up.
“Ok, now we’re good.” She ran out, leaving Acheson alone in the quarters.
He looked around for a minute and grabbed a PADD. He wanted to leave her a note so they could stay in touch, when the Chimera departed. Upon looking up from this PADD, he glared in shock to see a Borg alcove on the wall away from him. The Borg drones stood in their cubicles, totally oblivious to the environment around them. Acheson blurted out a certain profane word that could be said to rhyme with duck, as he reached for his concealed type I phaser.
After grabbing the weapon and pulling it out, he looked up to see the same bulkhead as he’d always seen.
“Damn it, I gotta start taking better care of myself. I’m starting to lose it.”
He returned the sidearm to its holding spot and left Pockinski’s quarters, eager to spend the rest of his free time in similarly pleasing endeavors.
