*** Starbase Kinsi ***
Mid distance between the infirmary entrance and the turbo lift, was
an observation window, nothing more than a narrow alcove but one with
a seat big enough for two. Rangi sat down there and looked out of the
window.There wasn't alot to see, part of the starbase exterior...stars...the port nacelle of a ship she didnt
recognise..and that was about it.
But none of it caught her interest.
{This is the strangest day} she told herself, focusing on a distant
nebula {Lt Blackburn...armed to the teeth..convinced an unknown
Andorrian has a grudge against the Chimera crew...}
She shook her head { Georgia ...just..well... 'falling apart' in the
infirmary?..the crewman who thought he was chased by an Yridian Yak?}
She leaned back against the wall and sighed.
{Athena} Rangis expression grew sombre as her thoughts turned to the
counselor.
Acheson walked the base quickly, shifting his eyes back and forth.
Looking ahead, he noticed someone looking like the Chimera CMO. He'd
never been to Sickbay before and hadn't met her, but had seen her on
occasion throughout the ship. Upon approaching her, he introduced
himself.
"Hi, I'm Nate Acheson, the Chief of Tactical on the Chimera. I
don't think we ever met, Doctor?" He offered his hand.
Deep in thought, Rangi heard someone speak and looked up to see a
tall figure standing beside her with outstretched hand. She hurredly
got to her feet.
"Lt Acheson?" She smiled politely."No ...we havent met...Rangi Summers....CMO."
They shook hands.
"Do you have a moment to talk with me alone?"
"Why...yes ofcourse." Rangi replied,reaching back for her bag which lay on the window seat.She returned her attention to the CTAC wondering why he had sought her out.
"Is there something wrong?" she asked her as her eyes
quickly 'scanned' him up and down.She noticed him watch a couple pass
by and looked around herself.
"Perhaps we could find somewhere a little more private than this?" she suggested
"Well, there is a room over there." Nate walked to the room
and checked too see that it was clear. He played with the door, and
jury-rigged the command codes to allow him to enter. SSF taught the
strangest things.
They walked to a conference room on the side, which was unoccupied.
Rangi sat down at the edge of the polished table and watched Acheson
take a seat at right angles to hers.
"So...what did you want to talk about?" she asked resting her arm on the table edge and directing her gaze at him.
"I have been noticing something strange ever since I went on
this station. Last night ... uhh." He struggled a bit, trying to
think of how to put it:
"I spent the night with someone and I kept seeing small pieces of Borg technology on the walls. The images would appear, and then vanish as if they never existed. Is something wrong with me?"
He frowned and turned to her, looking into her eyes for the answer.
"Borg technology?" she asked looking at him with a mystified expression."Forgive me...I don't understand...you mean you dreamt it...like a waking dream?
"I was definitely awake. This was after I left my quarters
wearing the wrong clothes ... long story. I saw a Borg alcove on the
wall with drones regenerating. I was definitely awake."
"I see..." Rangi looked away considering what Acheson had
said. Her fingers tapped the table top absently. Remeeting his gaze
she asked.
"Lieutenent? have you had any personal contact with the Borg?"
"Yes, as an Ensign on the Howe. We were boarded and the Borg
assimilated my Chief of Security."
He seemed to sadden:
"It's something I'd rather not talk about. It's something that's
given me a lot of pain and regret. But I know I saw what I saw."
"Mmmm..." Rangi gave him a thoughtful look for a second or
two then shifted her gaze to the room, looking absently at a display
of Fleet ships on the far wall.
{Thats really odd...} she thought. {He's obviously certain he was
awake...so.... he's hallucinating?...and that crewman in the
infirmary..he saw a Yak!!...and last night I saw...}
She remet Achesons eye with an expression that told him she was thinking of something that she didnt much like.{..that chest thing. I didnt dream it...it WAS there}
She asked: "Other than ..what you saw...are you feeling ok?... are you
sleeping properly?...have you something on your mind, something that
worries you?"
"Not really. I have my regrets about that Borg incident, but they don't haunt me daily. The last thing I did was .... spend an evening with a girl from Engineering here on the Starbase. Could she have done this to me?"
"No...that's doubtful" Rangi replied with a shake of her head. "...and unless she ran around the base all night.........it's very strange"
Acheson sighed. "What do you think?"
"Look.." she said " Leave it with me..I dont think theres anything wrong with you...but I'm not sure exactly whats happening."
She looked up into his brown eyes thoughtfully, still working things out as far as she knew them.
"Actually, you're not the first person here who's experienced..." she shrugged slightly "....unusual things. "Try not to worry about it...." She straightened up adopting a more positive stance. "...but let me know if it happens again"
Nathan nodded. "I will. Thank you, Doctor."
"Lieutenant" She acknowledged his thanks with a small smile as they stood up.
He said goodbye casually and walked away, to try to do something else before the R&R expired.
