Acheson leaned over the Conn console and worked to try to jog his memory,
before he crashed the ship and had to help repaint it in a EVA suit.
He tapped his combadge: +TAPS+ Acheson to Captain Walsh, can you report to
the bridge? There's something I'd like to discuss.
Jack had barely gotten his ass in the door when his Comm. Badge started goin
crazy with requests from people left right and centre, some more important.
One was from some Operations Officer asking if he wanted to subscribe to the
weekly edition of 'Starship Lifestyle', a supposedly light hearted look at
living on a deep space vessel.
Jack tapped his Comm. Badge Back; "Walsh here, On my way" he closed the
channel. "Once I get myself some bloody coffee" he muttered to himself,
dropped his duffel bag down on the floor and looked around the place. It was
certainly better looking than the barracks and he could only hope more
comfortable, call him crazy but it always amused him how marines were
usually so cut and dry. "Oh I *just* love to sleep on the hard floor and eat
filth" he mocked slightly, having an appreciation of the finer things in
life, possibly stemming from his life before the Corps.
The doors to the bridge slid open after about 20 mins of fixing a replicator
in his quarters, luckily his previous engineering background came in handy,
and about 20 mins of trying to find a turbolift that was actually working.
He'd contacted Engineering to let them know about the malfunction he'd
encountered along the way, one Lt Blackburn had assured him that he would
get somebody onto it.
He stepped out onto the Bridge and scratched his forehead a bit. Who on
earth was Acheson
Acheson sighed, tapping the console. This "coffee break" was beginning to
take a signficant amount of his time. Who did this Walsh character thing he
is anyway. Somehow, he hoped that Walsh would act similarly in front of the
CO or XO, and find himself in the fire.
He turned to the figure entering the bridge, wearing silver bars on his
collar. "Captain Walsh, I'm Lieutenant Acheson, the Chief Tactical Officer
here."
He extended his hand to the new officer, in a friendly greeting.
Jack shook the guys hand and looked around. Intrepid class was comfortable,
not as impressive as a sovereign class ship but nobody was perfect. He
wasn't sure but he suspect that the man before him was the former ODA
Commander, strange that he transferred to Tactical he thought but each to
their own. "So, what's this in regards to?" Walsh looked slightly bored but
tried to hide it, well barely.
"I imagine you're quite busy, but the reason why I called is that I'm going
to be taking the ship on maneuvers and I was wondering if the ODA might want
to practice while we're doing that. You'll get the opportunity to meet and
grow accustomed to those you command, without being under phaser fire."
"I guess so" Jack paused, "I don't know any of the team members though. I
haven't been down there, I haven't even been to my quarters, reported in or
even had a chance to unpack my unmentionables. In Fact you're the first
person I've talked to on this ship. What exactly would they consist of? or
Is that why I'm here" Jack smirked.
"Do you have a problem with me, Captain?" Acheson snapped, with a stern look
on his face. "If you don't want to take part in this, then that's your
choice. The maneuvers will consist of firing at target buoys. I thought the
ODA could then practice security maneuvers without most the of crew being
alarmed when security alerts are called. You'd get acclimated to the ship, I
figured. My goal is to become proficient at firing these weapons, and I was
hoping to give you the chance to work with the ODA. But if you just want to
go to a planet and relax with the promiscuous native girls, that's your
perogative. It is a general call for R and R from the CO, after all. Your
choice, Captain."
"No, Lieutenant" Jack emphasised the rank. "I do not have a problem with
you, as currently I'm unaware of your personality, I do however have a
distaste for your tone of voice with me. I've already agreed to join with
your training, I Would however like to meet with my ODA Team before we get
started however" Walsh snapped back "and as for my wanting to relax with
promiscuous native girls, you're absolutely right, that is my prerogative."
Jack kept his eyes fixated on the Lieutenant this time. It was typical, he'd
been here for five minutes and already he was going to have to watch his
back with Lieutenant Acheson.
Acheson chuckled and nodded his head: "I think we might just have a lot in
common. I need to make preparations and get the ship into position, so I
certainly think that you might want to meet your ODA team. They are quite a
group of individuals. By the way, I'm sorry if my tone offended you; I have
a great deal of pride and I take offense quickly sometimes. It is a vice and
it has caused me to throw far too many punches for my years. In any case,
Congratulations on taking the command of the ODA. Would you be willing to
meet in a few hours, say 15:00 hours to be on the bridge when we depart?"
Jack looked down at the floor and up again. "That's quite alright
Lieutenant, I enjoy a bit of conflict now and then, keeps me on my toes.
I'll schedule a meeting with my team and meet you at 1500 as per your
request" Walsh nodded. "If that's all?" he enquired and headed into the
turbolift, tapping his Comm. Badge as the doors closed behind him.
Acheson nodded and returned to his station. He needed to maneuver the ship
out of the spacedock and didn't want a court martial for scraping the paint
on the aft nacelle.
"Captain Walsh to all ODA Members, Meeting in 1 Hour, Please be in
attendance." Now, to find where the Offices were.
