Athena sat under one of trees in the arboretum. It was perhaps the smallest
arboretum she had ever seen. It consisted of three trees, a few flowers and a
bit of simulated grass. She was leaning against the back of the tree her
eyes closed enjoying the quiet that seemed to surround the arboretum. She
enjoyed running freely over the base with the kids. It was as though she were as
free as she was as a child maybe even more so.
Athena was enjoying the quiet and was thinking that she should perhaps be
testing out her new found skill where it would be less noticeable. {Is the base
too small of a test field or just right?} She watched as the gardener of the
small sanctuary was clearing away dead buds and fallen leaves. A single leaf
not too far away caught her eye and she began to concentrate on it. Just as
the old gardener was reaching for the leaf; it skirted away. The leaf hadn't
gone far just as planned but Athena felt guilty for toying with such an old
man. However, to be sure it wasn't some fluke She tried the trick again. She
was successful but not quite in the way she hoped. Instead of the leaf flitting
a small distance away it flew into the gardener's face. The older gentleman
grabbed the dried leaf and crushed it to bits in his fist. {Glad I'm not the
leaf.}
As the old man looked at Athena with a scowl she decided to make a hasty
retreat to her room on the base. Not that it was really much of a room almost
more like a cubicle with a shower. She punched in the code and entered her
luxury accommodations. If it weren't for the fact the bed was on one side of the
room and the entrance to the bathroom on the other, Athena wasn't sure that you
wouldn't just open the door and stumble into the bed. {That could be handy
for a drinking man .} Athena pulled her overnight bag out from under the bed
and picked out something to wear before heading off to take a shower.
{Thankfully there always seems to be plenty of hot water.}

Athena sat at the restaurant where she had promised to meet Martin but an
hour before they were to meet. She sat at the table and noticed a tired looking
ensign. She decided to try and spice up the young mans life a bit by testing
her extraordinary skill yet again. She concentrated on the napkin that was
sitting at the edge of the ensign's table and watched it finally tumble to the
floor.
Ensign Skywalker reached for his napkin and then noticed it wasn't there. He
looked down at the table and then too the floor. He gave a shrug and then
picked up the napkin. While the ensign was busy retrieving his napkin Athena
concentrated on the fork he had left sitting on the edge of his plate and
managed to get it moved next to his glass. As the ensign began to reach for his
fork he looked down and saw it wasn't where he thought he had left it. Giving
his head a small shake, he reached for the fork and continued to eat.
Athena continued to watch the ensign and as his attention seemed to be fixed
on something else she concentrated on his glass. It wobbled a bit and She
took a deep breath and tried again. The glass wobbled and slide to the right
about a half and inch and then it tumbled over into the ensign's lap. As the
ensign jumped up from his seat Athena thought {not quite what I had planned.}
A waitress went over and helped the ensign to get the table cleaned of and
his lap dried up a bit. With a fresh napkin and drink the ensign sat down to
finish his dinner. Athena took a couple sips of the sweet red wine she had
ordered and waited for her next opportunity. It wasn't long before Athena noticed
the ensign looking in her direction and a sense of scrutiny pass over her.
She felt as though she were being taken apart like in a lab piece by piece. It
was making her feel a little on edge. She concentrated on the ensign's plate
hoping that if his dinner seemed to be leaving without him then he would
quite staring at her with that unnerving expression.
Just as Athena thought she was getting somewhere Martin arrived. "Good
evening, Athena," she said with a smile in his eyes and a boyish grin on his face.
Her attention snapped to Martin and she smiled and said, "Hello."
"I hope I didn't keep you waiting," Martin asked as Athena's attention as
well as half of everyone else's became focused on the young ensign who was throw
his dinner on the table from his lap.
