===Sickbay===
Keylor walked into the Sickbay and looked around. He quickly looked
for a
spot to deposit his rather rubbery companion. With an armed wrapped over his
neck, Keylor dragged him along to the Sickbay. Quickly he found a biobed and
poured his flimsy, but jovial, associate on to it. He then turned to find the
doctors and see what progress they had made in their grim task of cause of
death.
The recent demands from the star base, coupled by the call from Rangi
had
Keylor's thoughts in a jumble. He was trying to figure out possibilities of
what could be happening over there. He reviewed all of the similar incidents
recorded by Starfleet in such attars. {There was the time that the
Enterprise crew were brain washed by the alien game, then the two times a
starship have been influenced by a viral like substance causing everyone to
react irrationally. Also the very old incident of the Enterprise under
Captain Kirk where the colony was effected by the flower.}
He mulled over in his head as he searched the Sickbay for one of the
doctors. {Could any one of those situations apply here? Am I being overly
paranoid? It is possible the base has had a security breach of some sort and
they are taking precautions to sort out the source of it. I just don't know.
Need more information.} Through a door to the side of Sickbay he saw a
figure may be two standing around a table. He headed in that direction
hoping to find the person or persons who were examining the two bodies
recovered from the shuttle.
"Oh, how ... uh sickening ... gross." Mai was now thinking out loud as
Scott
and herself were just about ready to begin examination on two dead bodies
that had been brought aboard. She has done this sort of work before, but
never did she think she would have to do, like an autopsy, out here.
Keylor followed the sound of voices. He found it odd that a doctor
would
make such a comment out loud. He would have figured through their training
that they would be use to it. He slipped in quietly past the door and
stopped just in side the room. There were two tables there with two humanoid
bodies, Vulcan both of them. He thought it odd that out of all races, Vulcans
would be in some accident so apparently careless. After all they were the
most logical of all beings in the federation, aside from the Binars, who
were annoyingly yes or no. He stood quietly, waiting for a good time to
announce himself.
MaiKai, regaining her natural tan color that was a white, similar to
what a few apparitions wore, then turned to Scott and handed him an exoscapel
to begin the
dissection. She turned as she noticed that Scott had paused in urgency to a
tall man that had just walked in the doors of Sickbay.
Scott selected the exoscalpel he needed and glanced up at MaiKai.
About to
reply, he glanced towards the doorway, his attention attracted by a movement.
"Sir," he said with a slight surprise and replacing the tool back on the
tray, he walked towards the CO. "How can I help you Sir?", he asked drawing near.
Keylor smiled at the look of surprise on Scott's face. "Well, you can
tell
me what you know for starters. I guess it is somewhat obvious what killed
them, the rapid decompression of the shuttle, but what would cause them to
do so," he pointed to the Vulcan bodies laying on the table. "After all they
are Vulcan."
Scott gave a brief nod of agreement as he too looked at the grim
remains. He
stepped toward the nearest table, looked at Keylor and replied. "Well, ... as
you can see ... it's highly unlikely we're going to find much here. The cause
of death ... as you rightly say ... was rapid decompression. " He looked at
the
nearest body and sighed. "They were both males ... young to middle age ...
and as far as we can say at this point, in good health." Remeeting the
colonels eye he continued," Sir ... you need to examine what's left of the
shuttle to answer your question."
Keylor nodded," That is being done by Lt. Andersen at the moment. So
far he
has reported that nothing looks out of place, no signs of malfunction. He has
yet
to access the shuttle data recorder to see if he can piece together the
events
leading up to decompression." He looked over at MaiKai and Scott," Now for
the time being, lets assume they caused the decompression somehow.
Doctor Quiochio? Any signs that they were under duress? Stress? And
physical evidence of what they were like right before the decompression?"
Making sure the body was properly uncovered she replied saying," Yes,
as
you can see here ... " Indicating to one of the body's left side on a small
part of the
rib cage near the diaphram. "There are a few slight contusions, but do to the
decompression you can barely see them," she looked back up at the CO
wondering what he was thinking now and whether Scott would agree or not.
Scott gave MaiKai a flicker of a smile, but looked serious when he
turned to
Keylor. "It will take us a while to go through it thoroughly Sir ... but
we'll send
the reports as soon as we're satisfied."
He hesitated wondering whether or not to mention his worries to the
Colonel.
It seemed such a minor thing to bother the commanding officer with. {"But
...}
Scott decided { Rangi was concerned enough to call us ... and MaiKai .. well
..}
he glanced at his fellow AMO then back to Keylor.
"Sir ... it might be something or nothing but I think you should be
aware
that Dr.Summers contacted us a short time before we moved out of range." He
looked at floor thinking how best to phrase his worries without sounding too
foolish. He raised his head and continued:
"She wanted us to report any ... well ... anything 'strange' happening
...
mentioned delusions. We haven't had anything like that." He added quickly,"
But .. Dr. Quiocho was surprised by Commander Guzman's behavior when she
met him earlier."
{Oh great ... Here it comes ... } Mai thought to herself as the words
from
Scott seem to tumble out quickly. {Yes, Colonel I'm a psycho ... He's on R&R
how does he seem delusional .. dur} mocking the CO in her mind as she turned
to face him as she blushed a little bit, but tried to cover that so her
expression
would not show.
Keylor nodded as Scott talked, "Yes Doctor, She contacted me as well.
At
first I thought she was just being overly concerned, needing to relax and
forget
her work. But Now I am beginning to wonder. The starbase has ordered us to
leave, threatening to fire upon us if we did not. We have moved out of
weapons and transporter range for now." {There's crew stranded on the base?} Scott
looked questioningly at Keylor. "Sir ..?"
Keylor then pointed over his shoulder. " I have a crewman in the other
room.
At first I thought he was drunk but did not smell any alcohol on him. It
also appears he has returned from the base just before we broke orbit.
Someone should check him out and see if he can help determine if something is
going on over at the station like Commander Summers has indicated."
"I'd be more than happy to follow up with him Sir .. That is after I
finish
in here," Mai's voice trailed off as she looked down at the bodies on the
table. Making sure no one saw her slight shudder she looked from Scott to
the CO with a reassuring smile.
Scott looked at the nearest body, though he was thinking of something
else.
"Sir .. I'm beginning to think that Commander Summers was right to be
worried,"
he said turning his attention to the CO. "Too many ... 'strange' things going
on."
He indicated the Vulcan bodies," Decompressed shuttles ...
Commander Guzman ... " Scott glanced at MaiKai " ... unusual behavior ...
the base warning us off?"
Keylor nodded showing that he was listening. "Also I happened to
notice
Ensign Oriana earlier. She seemed ... different, much unlike herself. Could
someone check her out as well. With so many crew coming and going from
the station it is hard to tell who has been there and who has not. If she has
been to the station, there may be a physical on her can shed some light on
the situation." "I think it might be an idea to round up everyone who's been
to
the base in that case Sir ... do a bit of cross checking ..."
Keylor nodded, "Aye would be prudent. I will check with the
transporter
chief and get a list of names of people who have beamed back form the station
in the last 24 hours or so. You can then use that list to call people in for
examination."
{Hmmm...} MaiKai a bit puzzled nodded in agreement. Not exactly sure
where all this medical refrence to people going delusional would go. In
return to
her thinking she looked upon the two bodies lying in front of her then back
at the
CO.
Scott looked pleased to think that some action was being taken. "Thank
you
Sir ... we'll get on to it as soon as the postmortems are completed. Mercedes
and Steve are off duty ... perhaps we can call them in too", he said as an
after thought.
"MaiKai? .... I'll carry on with this if you make a start on getting
the crew
to come down here." Scott paused, in case the Colonel had more to say.
"Uh .. er .. yes I believe that is a much better idea," she replied
not really happy to walk around the damn ship just to find people; seemed like
hide and go seek to her. She carried on listening into the droning of the
explanations of what to do next.
Keylor looked at the two doctors, "DO what ever you need to do to get
the
job done. We need to know what is going on as quickly as possible. If there
is something going on, something to impair peoples judgment or act weird,
their can be wide spread implications."
"Understood," she said drifting into a trance of listening, but not
really
'listening'. Turning to Scott she gave a small gulp as his mouth went from a
smile
to a somewhat concerned look, but then regained the smile towards the CO as
to here him chime in.
Keylor then started to turn to the door, "OK, well I will go check
with the transporter chief and get the list. Report to me as soon as you find
something." He watched Scott and MaiKai nod. He then turned completely and
started to walk out of the room.
