Cameron busied himself in the small cramped quarters known as the engineering section. There was not much need for a spacious engineering section like he was used t seeing on the starship he once served on, after all the purpose of this ship was to haul cargo, not fly about the universe at high warp speeds. The old ship was only capable of war 4 on a good day, but the principles behind the warp drive were the same. There were dilithium crystals, Plasma and of course a warp drive. what Cameron had to do is find a way to make sure the crew of the star base would want him, and the mule to leave. To do that Cameron figured on a warp core breach. Cameron figured he could modify things in the engineering section of the mule and create a false sensor reading. That reading would show a cascading warp core containment field failure, and a core overload to indicate that all was lost and the mule would soon become part of the cosmic dust that littered the universe.
Looking down at Harvey he spoke aloud. "OK Harvey, I am no engineer but I think this will do it. I have closed the plasma injectors, causing a pressure build up in the main lines. then I have removed the dilithium crystals and placed a micro power cell in the chamber in a power up loop to simulate a power blip. then I also have crossed wired the warp core filed to start on a slow weakening cycle down to 10 percent. Now if my calculations are correct. We should look like we are having a warp core overload in progress when I start everything up. What do you think?" he asked his fuzzy little invisible friend.
No reply came form the empty air near the floor.
"I know, I know!" Cameron exclaimed." We can still damage the dilithium chamber if the power cell overloads and explodes. But with the shields at 10 percent, the damage should be able to be reduced to the chamber and the surrounding ares behind the shield. I am hoping that does not happen, but if it does, may be we can get a passing starship from the federation to help us make repairs. It is a chance we have to take."
Cameron pause d as if listening to Harvey. "Well Seth will not be pleased, but he has not returned for me to tell him about that pretty woman's plight. And after all if the base is having some sort of problem, we have an obligation to help, even if it is helping that pretty woman back to her ship."
Cameron nodded and replied. "Yes I know that is a possibility, the ship could be experiencing the same problem. But that is a chance we have to take. Lets just hope they are normal and the pretty lady can get home." Cameron turned back to his work and finished his modifications. "There all done. all we need to do is wait for the lady to return with her friends and we can go." Cameron then looked down and searched the floor.
"Where are you going Harvey?" there was a brief silence. "Oh don't be that way, it will work, I promise. We wont die!" Silence again. "Come back here Harvey, there is no need to panic We will be in the cockpit and if something major goes wrong we can eject the back half of the ship and use the cockpit as a life pod." Cameron started to walk to the door of the engineering section looking down across the floor. "OK Harvey what ever makes you feel better. You go to the cockpit and prepare things there for departure and I will go to the hatch and wait for the lady and her friends to arrive."
Cameron stopped at the engineering doors and looked like he was watching some one walk down the hallway. After a minute or so hen then turned and slowly walked to the hatch. "I tell you," he said to himself out loud." Some times rabbits can be so paranoid and negative. Harvey needs to learn to loosen up and take risks once and a while." he smirked as he walked down the hall.
