The odd pair composed of an andorian and a romulan moved swiftly down the
corridors, turning left and right, putting as much distance from the spot
they left the other two.
"Do you still have you combadge, Xenai?" He asked her, wanting to tell her
more about what he'd seen earlier, but needing to take care of station
security.
She paused for a moment, and shuffled the two security rifles around to free
her hand. Digging around her jacket pocket, she wondered why he would need
her
badge. "Right here" Xenai held it up, it suddenly occurred to her, "They
cant
trace it... can they?"
"Normally no, but I would not bet all my money on that. Any technician with
some encryption training could work a miracle with a advanced communication
system like we use." Some idea came to mind, and he wished he had his
combadge right now.
"We should head for densely populated area of the station and dump it in
someone's pocket or something. Nobody could use it since it's triggered by
your bio-print, but they could act as decoys for a few moments. and we have
to
find another shuttle bay, anything. Do you have an idea?"
She raised an eyebrow, and stuck the combadge back in her pocket.
{all the shuttle bays will be crawling with security...}
"The transport!" she practically squealed.
"The transport ship i came here on, im sure its still docked!"
Xenai rushed to a nearby LCAR to confirm the fact.
"with people going back and forth between the station and the ship, security
shouldnt pose much of a problem."
Her lips hitched into a smirk, as her fingers ran over the screen.
"Im sure we could get down into engineering undetected and cause a stir."
"I'm sure we could reprogram it, while her maintenance is being done. We'll
need duty uniforms, to pass as engineers from this station. I don't see a
problem with that."
He tapped a few requests on the panel, displaying the schedule for the
transport's maintenance. "We have eight hours to make it happen. Let's not
waste a second, shall we?"
=== Docking Port ===
Xenai tried to look official as she scoped out the loading bay.
It wasnt as crowded as she had hoped, but blessedly free of security.
There were some merchants scurrying along, a few civilains here and there
chattering happily, but no one who seemed particularly interested in the two
of them.
It was easy enough, there was passanger traffic going in and out of the
ship,
Gaalen thought it would be a piece of cake, maybe they wold not need to pass
for station engineer personel. Maybe as passengers that forgot things in
their
cabin, he kept the options open, just in case.
=== transport ===
They accessed a panel together to get the directions for engineering. Once
it
was done, and without arousing suspicion they moved towards the main bay
where
they could reach the vessel's engineering department and cause some havoc
there.
The bay was desserted, sufficated by harsh lighting, low
ceilings, and its dark sterile walls. A faintly fruity breeze of
disinfectants
drifted through the air from the ventellation, mixing with echoes of comms
and busy computers sputtering somewhere in the background.
Xenai had to admit she was happy to be back onboard. The events on the
station were a
little much to comprehend all at once, and she was feeling more than
overwhelmed.
They began towards engineering, barely making it past the first entrance.
STOP! YOU... STOP! a voice boomed behind them.
Xenai spunn around to find herself face to chin with a threatningly large
Corvallen.
"YOUR BUSINESS?"
Xenai looked questioningly at Idrani, "our business? ... maintainance?"
She turned to face their interigator."Maintenance! Lt... err" she glanced
at his shoes.
"Lt. Shoe..en..err ... Lt. Shoener requested some additional assitance in
engineering" she shot idrani a smile and continued.
"It seems that the Inertial Dampning Field is missaligned, preventing a
uniform intensity of power from the drive coil assembly, and once it gets
far enough, then the vectored exhaust director falters forcing a
compensation for the abnormalities of the field with velocity changes, but
only to a degree."
she gestured dramatically as she spoke,
"....and you know its affecting the structural integrity field too. That
could reak havoc on the mechanical integrity of the ship... but once we get
the genoraters in tune, and the IDF sorted out, it should be fixed in no
time."
She finished with a smile, clearly satisfied with her performance.
The Corvallen blinked, and nodded.
"You know you really ought to be in uniform when on duty" he finally added.
"Yes." Gaalen took over. "But your captain seems to have connections on this
starbase, we where pulled out of shore leave to fix the problem, since we
are
the local specialists. So if you don't mind, I'd like to get this over with
asap and get back to my activities. You would not like to get your captain
mad,
now would you?"
The Corvallen shook his head.
"I'll need to see your bridge, to make some adjustments to your navigational
array as well." The blue skinned saboteur said, getting a nod from the
corvallen. He turned to Xenai. "We ought to check their bridge first, just
in
case the problem comes from there."
"Don't worry, since we are hooked to the station, there is nobody on the
station, you'll have peace to work."
-= A few minutes later, on the bridge =-
"I must say i did not believe you when you said it was deserted. You should
always have someone keeping an eye on things, in case some saboteurs
infiltrate
your ship to cause havoc and expensive delays." Gaalen pointed out.
"Yes, but this is a starfleet starbase, we don't suspect anyone crazy enough
to
attempt such foolish act." He idiotic corvallen replied.
"You don't say." Idrani replied, nodding, smilling at Xenai when his face is
out of sight of the Corvallen's eyes. "Would you give us a moment, please?"
He shook his head.
"Well then, stand by the door please, this should not take very long." He
said,
once he got an acknowledgement from their improvised escort, he moved to the
navigational console.
Gaalen started tapping away, starting some level five diagnostic of their
engine systems and working on bypassing the basic security protocols that
locked the controls to the engines. Sure enough, they could be bypassed
easely,
these guys either where very naive or had absolutely nothing to worry about
from anything or anyone. Stealing a glance at his escort, Gaalen suspected
the
former.
In a matter of minutes, he had programmed the computer to proceed with the
departure sequence and head for a random coordinate around the SB, and
maintain
position once the coordinates reached. As agreed earlier, as they had made
their way to the transport, Xenai was to bypass the locks of the station and
encrypt the whole program so it could not be stopped before the completion
of
it. Gaalen gave them both seven minutes to leave the ship once Xenai would
be
finished.
"Thats it, im all finished" Xenai smiled then pulled out her stolen rifle
from behind the console.
One shot, and the corvallen fell stunned to the floor.
"This way it will look like he put up a fight" she shrugged. "lets go?"
They strode through the narrow corridors, out of the doomed transport and
toward the outer docking ring. {section 3,docking port 5} Xenai repeated in
her head to the rhythm of their boots clicking softly on the hard station
floor.
As they approached the port, she could make out several figures near the
entrance. The CMO and CTAC, and another, an unidentifiable third. {wearing a
blanket?!} Xenai wondered, but there was no time to dwell on it, she gave
herself a mental kick, as they joined their relieved comrades.
The crew now reunited, entered the USS Pack Mule, ready for the voyage back
to chimera.
