===== Main Engineering, SB Kinsi =====
Shane was still frozen in shock. Just few seconds ago the CEO of the station wondered why he had to bother about an warp core breach that should happen in 30 minutes. IN fact ... the man together with his staff continued to play their 'domino game' (with colorfull isolienar chips from various system panels) and payed the incomming anihilance of the whole base absolutely NO attention.
The absurdace of the situation seemed to have an positive effect on Shane's adrenaline and noradrenaline level and even seemed to supress the effect of teh pollen as well, as Shane suddenly realised that a warp core breach was NO fun. Not that a good match of domino wouldnt be appealing ... but Shane was sure that even 30 minutes of the greatest domino match wouldnt be worth of ... dying.
The two security guards looked blank at each other ... it doesnt look like they were spending their thoughts on Shane. Taking advance of that, Shane went swiftly over to teh main console where a big projection of the warp core was on teh screen. Shane was of course no engineer ... to be honest, from all the departments a ship could have, Engineering was the last Shane would say he could 'do'. But even such an antitalent of an engineer like Shane could recognize what the screen was telling him .... the computer was right ... the warp core was gonna to explode.
The matter-antimatter separataion magnetic field was swiftly loosing integrity. Shane could only guess why, but the many isoliner chips scattered around could give there some hints. Shane looked somewhat sheepishly around ... not sure what to do. He wished LT. Blackburn, LtCmdr. Quayle or even the new Andorian engineer who's name he did not recalled atm would be here. They would sure know what to do ...
For a moment Shane thought about teh other Chimera crew that was on the station ... and especially on Rangi. He had no idea how they were .... if they were hidden somewhere, jailed by the station's forces or what ... But he knew that he cant allow the station to be destroyed ... there were too many fireds and people he loved on board.
Shane turned around, came closer to the engineer's bunch that played their domino match and tried the obvious way ...
He took a breath and said loudly in an commanding voice: "I am Commander Guzman from the USS Chimera. I order you to end that stupid game and immediately take care of the warp core problem" ... For a moment Shane seemed to grew taller, his voice was strong and demanding ... a text book Commander ...
The CEO and several other officers looked up at Shane. It looked like they will copy. ... for a moment ...
The CEO just waved with his hand: "Cool down lad, I told you that we dont care. The match is on its high point, sont bother us with work. Someone will take care about that. Come and join us"
Shane looked liked astonished: "Who?" he asked, "who will take care about the warp core?"
The CEO shrugged: "The bridge, CO, XO ... someone, I dont care. You're not going?"
Shane shook his head and wanted to say something, but the CEO turned his attention again back to the domino game. And so did all the other engineers.
Having an another idea, Shane run over to an another console. There was the operational console for teh base systems and there was teh diagnostic tool for communication chanells too. {I'll try to contact the Chimera or any otehr ship near} he thought and hoped for an engineering team to be send ... .He tapped the buttons and accessed the required frenkvence. Opening his mouth to speak, Shane noticed a single red right flashing in front of him.
::flash:: No carrying signal ::flash::
Shane cursed quietly and smashed the console. He dint felt like an textbook officer right now ...
The years as OPS officers on the Aurora were now an advance for Shane, cause he still remebered few tricks how to 'persuade' a station's computer or circuits that his wishes were very well real ... and required. He managed to access the communications subroutine and was about to connect directly to the station's comm array antena when he got a general failure massage. He glanced sideways at the engineering buch ... {Fools!} he thought. No way now ... the most thing he could get was audio and even that only as broadcast ... no reply receiving possible ...
[warning! Warp core breach will occur in 25 minutes] said the rather bored voice of the station's computer.
Shane sighed and tapped the 'on air' button.
"Here is Commander Shane Guzman on board the Kinsi starbase. The station's warp core is becoming unstable and will breach in approximately in 25 minutes. If any ship nearby can help me with engineers, please do so as soon as possible. Unless the core will be stabilised, I will reject the warp core in 20 minutes. I request every ship to leave the immediate surrounding of the base and take as safe distance position. Guzman out"
Shane sighed again.
