=/\= Bridge several hours after cloaking. =/\=
The trip from their hiding spot to the base was slow but uneventful.
With the crew breifed by reports sent to the senior officer in each
department, each put forth their best efforts to prepare for their
voyage in little amount of time.
After reporting that the cloak was operational and ready for its first
trial, Gaalen and Xenai kept watch in the basement making sure the ship
was powered and would be able to move out of any harms way. In Science,
Oriana snuck away from her quarters and was able to check up with her
trust assistant, Pretrel, and ensure her modification to the sensor
array prior to reaching the base were at their peak efficiency and ready
for the difficult task of finding the wayward crewmen. In medical
Mercedes awaited in sickbay2 for the expected incomming , crazed
personnel accompanied by other medical personnel and several oda
personnel for controlling those who were less that reasonable. And on
the bridge Nathan watched the cloak and prepared for the worse while
Andersen scanned the station and coordinated with the transporter chief
the precision transporting for the suspected crew.
Now the stout little ship circled beneath the station, where few ships
ever tread and where fewer portals peering out in to space existed. Now
in their little spiral the ship started its scans of the station,
looking for the preverbal needle in a hay stack. Before reaching the
station Lt Foster had suggested starting the scans on the part of the
station where the promenade was located. He had reviewed the transporter
logs and the duty schedules and discovered that 15 of the 30 still
missing had only indicated several hours of R&R, intending to return to
the ship. With that in mind it was a reasonable assumption that they
would have no where else to go but the public areas like the promenade.
It was a logical assumption and as good of place as any to start, after
all even though Kinsi was a small base, it still dwarfed the chimera in
size and number of hiding places. LT Fosters suggestion turned out to be
fruitful for the first 30 minutes, identifying 5 people who matched the
transporter buffers. Successfully transporting those individuals form
the station, the proverbial "well" dried up quickly and the number of
identified persons dwindled to one every 20 minutes or so.
Keylor waited patiently in his chair as the time ticked by. He had lost
track of the number of peoplke transported from the station when he
heard LT Acheson pipe upform behind. "SIR! I Thik we have a problem !"
he called out. Keylor turned around and looked back expectantly. "And
that is?" he asked waiting for the remainder of the news.
"Sir I was scanning the station, seeing if ther lower torpedo tubes were
powered up, the ones aboe the main engineering section." Keylor's eyes
perked, "You don't think they have detected us do you?" he asked.
" no sir, But I did notice apower surge in main engineering. Sir It
apears they have a warp core breacjh in progress."
Keylor stood up immediately, "Warp core Breach? Are you sure it is not
some sensor trick, like the one Cameorn Sikes tried to use?" He waited
patiently. Keylor noticed Andersen look up breifly form the consol, then
back down with a little more stern determination looking in his face.
"No sir I am fairly certain this is real, and if my sensors are reading
it right, I don't think they have five minutes before it explodes."
Nathan said. "Keylor looked forward to the helm. "Helm, plot a course
away from the station." He then looked over to Andersen, "Lieutenant?
How many so far?" He asked for the number of recovered individuals. "17
sir." Keylor looked back at Nathan, "Very well Lt. Foster keep working
as long as you can."
Keylor was not please with the news, but he was far from surprised. With
the behaviour exhibeted by the crew exposed ofr a limited time, he could
only think that many on the station were truly delusional. "Lieutenant
Achseon, drop the.." He started to ask for the cloak to be dropped to
increase the sensor effeciency when Acheson interupted.
"SIR! The CORE. Some one just ejected it. But it does not have a lot of
velocity. At its current rate, the station will most likely sustain
server damage to the lower 8 decks. " He looked up at Keylor , "Sir I
don't think the station could take that much damage." He added.
Keylor hesitated for only a second. "Drop cloak. Bring the tractor beams
online and lock on to the core." Keylor then spun around to the front.
"Helm, pout us in position for a tow, then plot the straightest path
away form here. "
He barked out.
Andersen then spoke out, "Sir, I suggest we suspend operations until the
threat is cleared." Keylor nodded as he looked over to Andersen, "Very
well, transfer all power to the shields and tractor beam." He started to
turn away when Andersen continued, "I scanned the engineering section to
confirm Lieutenant Acheson readings." He said in a calm plain voice," I
found Commander Guzman. Transporter room 1 is beaming him over now."
Keylor nodded. Very good, please inform the CMO I am sure she would be
interested to hear the good news.
The helm chimed in next, "Sir course laid in."
Keylor faced the front and headed back to his chair. "Engage." He simply
replied. Quickly the viewscreen cahnged and the starbas left and
returned to view. A large green form soon appeared on the screen, the
station core. With grace and spped the core slipped to the bottom of the
viewscreen. Within a miniute of giving the order to engage , Nathan
called out. "Tractor beam engaged sir!"
Keylor sat in his chair, "Best possible speed Helm, Lieutenant Acheson,
Let thehelm know when we are loosing the tractor beam." He listened as
both the helm and Nathan confirmed hearing the order.
- 3 minutes - -
Keylor watched his wrist chrono, counting every second as they sped as
fast as they could from the station. It had bee 3 minutes since they
started their tow and who knew when the core would loose its containment
field. He called out to the bridge, " Disengage tractor beam, Helm warp
1 away from the blast, engage." He kept his commands short, relying on
the others to understand. Just as the stars started to streak on the
screen the ship rocked. The streaking stars only lasted for a second
when the. Lights flickered and the red lights came on instantly. Keylor
figured the guess of when the core would explode was off by a second or
two and just as they warped away the core exploded.
Keylor looked about and did not see any one lying on the floor. In his
mind he was relieved, it was the first time since he had taken command
of the ship they had survived an explosion. Looking forward he asked
helm. "Do we have impulse? "
The helm officer tapped a few times, "Aye sir we do." Was the reply with
a slight sigh of relief.
Keylor adjusted himself in his seat. "Ok everyone excitement for the day
is over. Helm take us back to the station. Lieutenant Andersen, damage
report please. Lieutenant Acheson, Scan the station, with their core
gone I doubt they have the power for phasers, and if we positions
ourselves properly , torpedoes should not be a problem at close range."
Keylor listened as each officer responded. He settled in to his chairand
waited for everyone else to do their jobs.
