<<The thing is, I wrote this before I read Colonel Bretam's posting, so I had to alter it. My version had my character doing a holodeck simulation, but that's impractical in 15 minutes. If any of the text deviates from the idea that I was doing a simulation on the bridge, please disregard it.>> =/\= USS Pack Mule =/\= Acheson paced around the ship, before finding the desired console. “Ok, final sensor scans on the SB Nimsi.” He tapped at the console and began pulling up sensor data. “Their shields were offline. Hull at 96% … some kind of EPS power conduit damage on Deck 22. I guess those engineers are being affected.” He continued reading: “Good. Their sensors are definitely offline.” He took the data and left the ship. =/\= Tactical Station =/\= Nathan walked onto the bridge and accessed a computer terminal, behind the weapons controls on the Intrepid ship. “Computer, initiate program Acheson Gamma 6.” The display showed the USS Chimera and the Starbase as points on a grid. He walked to the station. “Computer, set target as Starbase Nimsi. Opening conditions are starbase lateral sensors at minimal efficiency. Hull at 98%. Crew efficiency at 12%. The computer chirped in compliance: [State USS Chimera conditions] “USS Chimera condition nominal.” [Proceed when ready] Acheson entered a commencing sequence on the control panel and began to work at the console. The situation continued. The cloaking device malfunction and the Chimera decloaked, and attempted to raise shields and power weapons. The starbase fired, sending a pulse of phaser energy into the Chimera. The point ship showed damage, though the words were quite cold and impersonal. “Direct hit to decks 4-10 … heavy damage to the impulse drive manifold. Warp drive is offline. Lateral sensor relay damaged.” Acheson read from the screen. “Return fire.” He programmed, becoming quite audible at the intensity of the simulation. Three quantum torpedos, like cobalt stars, flew at the Starbase and arrived there as phasers cut into Nimsi’s shields. Suddenly the torpedos struck, sending Starbase debris shooting through space. The explosions continued though the ship. “What the hell?” he looked down at the simulated sensor readings …. “Life support off line. Plasma reactor venting coolant … this is bad. The EPS conduit damage must have compromised that shield grid. It should’ve taken a lot bigger pounding that that.” He looked back down before calling to the computer: “Restart on Time Index 612” The simulation stop briefly, but returned right before weapons were targeted. Acheson fired the weapons, which hit the shields with no effect. “Shields holding.” The starbase fired again, hitting the Chimera’s shields. “Shields at 60% Damn it!” “Firing” The Chimera fired again, but those blasts were likewise ineffective. “I don’t understand.” A final shot hit the Chimera and the result was clear and disappointing: ”Weapons down!” “Computer, reset simulation, same time index.” Before it started, though, he looked back at the sensor scans. “Computer, pause simulation.” A brief overview of the system showed an ODN junction below the bridge. {{I wonder if I hit it.}} “Computer, resume simulation.” The damaged Chimera returned and he aimed his weapons accordingly. The phasers and torpedos streaked out, and the Starbase responded accordingly. A few explosions were visible, but nothing else happened. {{Hmm, we must have taken out the ODN junction … but why haven’t they compensated … Engineering should have been able to route a transfer.}} He rubbed his chin for a moment. “Right … of course. The pollen probably knocked out their communications with Engineering. If that prospect holds, it might allow us to disable the ship this way, if we need to. It’s awfully hypothetical, though.” He reported the simulation results to the Colonel. =/\= END LOG =/\= 1LT Acheson CTAC USS Chimera -- ___________________________________________________________ Sign-up for Ads Free at Mail.com http://promo.mail.com/adsfreejump.htm
